A Girl's First Christmas

It was a snowy and joyous Christmas eve. Everyone was getting perked up for tomorrow. People were already heading home all with gleams and grins on their faces. They were all being nice to each other, practically greeting everyone they met down the road. They showed sheer kindness to one another. The streets were lit up with glittering Christmas lights and other Christmas ornaments. It truly was a joyous Christmas eve.

That was… except for one poor, lonely girl, all alone on the street with no home or a family. She was almost freezing with her thin layered clothing and the only thing that gave her warmth was a small candlelit stick that was about to burn out in a couple of minutes.

She peeped through a window of the home next to her and saw a happy family having dinner together. There was a mother, a father, and two other kids, one boy and the other was a girl. When she saw this, tears began to build up in her eyes and began to roll down her rosy cheeks like bright falling stars. How she wished she was part of that family.

The mother motioned her eyes to where the poor girl was looking and was able to meet the girl's gaze. The girl immediately rushed to the ground shuddering. Then…..she fell into a sad, cold sleep…..a sad, cold, long sleep….

She popped open her eyes. Sudden amazement and wonder filled her. She rushed up with eyes wide and mouth opened. She rubbed her eyes not believing what she saw.

She was in a room. The room was brightly flowered with the early morning sunlight. Her bed was so soft and cozy. It was beautifully embroidered too. Toy soldiers, fluffy dolls, and building blocks were scattered everywhere, all around her, surrounding her. And at the end of the room, just by the door, was a family, standing, watching her with inviting smiles on their faces. They were the family she saw last night.

She remembered their gleeful faces; the mom, the dad, and the other two kids.

Now she understood, since the time the mother saw her, she was moved with pity and sorrow. She couldn't resist but make her happy and be a part of the family.

And from that time on she lived with that family; eating together, playing together, laughing together. She's now got that heart-warming feeling of acceptance and care that she longed for in the years that passed. And it was on that faithful Christmas eve that her dream came true…
