For You to Trust

Closed doors mean nothing to me,
A simple key or code is all it takes.
It is the invisible shields,
Especially built to keep me out,
That are a hindrance between us.
I do not know how I may address myself,
For you to trust me.
I am not the child I once was,
Nor, though, am I an adult.
I am simply a friend,
Wishing to help, wishing to hold.

That invisible shield means nothing to me now.
It may still keep me out,
But one day it will open,
And we will have a deeper understanding
Than ever before.
Until then, I await patiently,
For you to trust.
