Author's Note: I don't know where exactly is this piece going, so it will stand as a one-shot for a while or longer.

The Disenchanted Lullaby

There are no days in the land of Tenebrae. There is not a sun that would shine and melt the snow that seemed to have rested upon the countless rooftops for years…

Child sleep rest,

Dream, the day is gone,

Let slumber take you

And may you dream

Of cerulean skies

She awoke to the memory of the song tears streaming down her face. She sat up from her makeshift bed of wooden crates, making her newspaper blankets fall off and wiped the moisture away from her azure blue eyes.

Stand strong, my little one

Dry your tears,

Hush your cries

She let the song continue inside her mind by memory; she knew it all too well for it haunted her dreams almost every single night and every morning she'd wake with moisture streaking her face.

Why though?

She stretched and rubbed her eyes, no longer did the tears bother her, it seemed natural to her now.

Even before when the dawn should break one day

I may be gone,

But by spirit, I shan't leave you ever

The song was a lullaby; a song sung by mothers to their little children, but Mercury, the girl was an orphan. Mercury being only a nickname she received during the years when the orphanage still existed because of her quicksilver colored hair.

My love with you

By your side

Forevermore

She stood and slowly got herself off the crates that were piled up as garbage on an alleyway and then pried the crate open with her hands, where she had kept her few things over for the night for safekeeping.

All she had was a doll, a mini-sewing kit and a switchblade. The latter ones she had picked up from a garbage cans and the most former one being something she had created with tattered clothing.

So stand strong, my little one

Dry your tears

Hush your cries

She pocketed her belongings and wrapped the two layers of leather tighter around her for much needed warmth from the ice and snow.

Mercury then started walking to the destination unknown.

And the song finally begins its ending stanza…

Sleep rest, child

The days are gone

Let sweet slumber take you

And may Dreams be kind

And let you dream

Of cerulean skies

…like how it starts every single night.

And when it ended, it was like a dream that vanished when you wake.

She couldn't recall the song anymore, not until the dream came to her again.
