Something Unexpected
Robby's P.O.V.
I feel like an idiot saying this crap. Guys aren't supposed to remember details, but I can remember everything about her.
I knew Hewitt since seventh grade, he should have been in high school but he kept getting held back. We both liked trouble and thus friendship ensued, he introduced me to his friends but this was the first time we had ever been to his house. I knew Chassidy from school and I knew Edythe because she dated a friend of mine. But I hadn't met Jack until that night. I saw her first in her room. She was playing video games, not many girls I know play video games so I was interested from the beginning.
At first she seemed like a high and mighty prick especially when she didn't give me the classic look over. But it was her voice caught me. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but the smell of the spaghetti sauce had gotten to me. I hadn't meant to stand so fucking close to her but I was really hungry and with the voice combined I was lost. When she walked right into my chest I thought she would bounce right off because of how hard my heart was pounding. She looked at me with these slightly crossed blue eyes. Then she backed away from me. I felt like a bastard when she burnt her hand but when she was back in my arms I really didn't give it a second thought. I wanted to comfort her. She was the type of girl that guys save because she looked too helpless to save herself. But then her whole family came running in. Not to mention my friends.
Hewitt looked at me like he was about to commit first-degree murder. It wasn't that I was scared of Hewitt though, but it was the whole principle of it all. A guy shouldn't date his friend's sister especially when she is younger than this friend.
Friendship kept me away physically but I kept thinking about her especially the strawberry scent she wore. I had no idea what was wrong with me. She wasn't the type of girl I would even think about yet no girl had ever stayed in my thoughts for as long as she had. She wasn't hot but she had this dark red hair color that was paired with these blue eyes that I just couldn't forget. Hell, she even looked almost exactly like Chassidy who I thought was hot, yet not attracted to at all.
Goddamn it, I just had to be attracted to the girl that would probably end up with an ugly husband like in those TV sitcoms.
"Robert is that you?" an all too familiar voice called out my name.
I turned around and was surprised to find my childhood friend from California. What the hell he was doing out here was a complete and utter wonder to me.
"Alex?" I responded.
He was dressed up and spiffy like he was on a date.
"I go by Xan now. Oh wow, how's it going?" Alex, I mean 'Xan' said.
"What the hell? Xan?"
He chuckled, "Yeah, I decided new place, new name.
"Still weird."
"It's cool, you still go by Robert?"
I shook my head, "Nah, Robby or Rob. How long have you lived here?"
Xan showed off five fingers. "Only five days."
"What school do you go to?"
"Edwards High, you?"
"Not fucking possible. I go to the same school. Why haven't I seen or heard of you? Wait a minute, so you and your sister are the new kids, huh?" I said at realization of the commotion of the week. I am not a gossip mongrel but I heard of them. It was pathetic, if had only been listening I would have known that Xan was the new guy.
Xan nodded, "A bit slow there, but you got it."
"Why you all spiffed up, eh?"
Xan smirked, "I'm on a double date."
"Moving fast there," I responded.
Xan grinned. "You?"
I felt like an idiot. "Uh, my girlfriend and I broke up. I wanted to get out of the house."
"Makes sense why you are going the opposite direction of the theater," Xan said spinning his keys in his hands. "Hey why don't you join us?"
I shook my head, "And feel like the third wheel? No thanks."
Xan shook his head, "Come on Robert, it's been a long time since we last hanged out."
"Wouldn't your date get pissed?" I asked.
Xan shook his head again, "I only agreed on the double date because I wanted my friend Collin to get out. All he does is stay at home and play video games so I pulled him out of his hole. And I wanted to annoy my girlfriend's sister."
"I don't think it would be a good idea…"
"Dude! You have to go," Xan said. "I won't take 'no' as an answer. Hell, I might be able to find you a date while I'm at it."
"Xan."
"Eh?"
"Don't push your luck."
Xan could only smile back.
"How far away do you live from here anyway? It's pouring."
"Only a block away. I really wanted pizza," I answered while pointing to a pizza stand on the other side of the street.
Xan chuckled. "I bet you still get in trouble?"
"Ah, when have I ever not?"
Xan laughed. "Come on before my girlfriend thinks something happened."
I followed after him in the theaters.
