As Rome lay in flames,
Laden with ceramic's lead
He plays his fiddle.
I don't know if he indeed played with a fiddle since if my memory serves me right, the fiddle wasn't invented until the Renaissance (there, I gave a clue already). But even if I'm wrong, it still makes for an adequate metaphor (considering the other connotations for the word fiddle)...
