A fading echo, cast by Glee,
Lent swiftness to Alacrity,
While all the hours of the year
Sailed swift and fast upon the sea.
And every twisted, writhing tear
Was sunk so deep that naught but Fear
Could ever touch its withered shell.
While bastard shadows played sincere,
All the pains of Mourning fell
Into a state of wearied hell
That only they can now explain
And only they can ever tell.
And still the Daylight sought to fain
The brooding face of Moon at wane,
And only Lust could ever touch
The savagery of untold gain.
But who on Earth could ask so much?
Kept Covetous was bold as such,
So only she could beat back Shame,
And only she could bear that crutch.
The wilderness of Pride untamed
Could never play dark Hatred's game,
And though he tried, he always failed
To ever break good Honor's frame.
Then entered Love, who, ever pale,
Sought refuge in the wooded dale,
Where ever dwelt the Hermit good
Named Treachery for his dark vale.
And sanctuary Love withstood.
Though cost was damning, Hermit's wood
Was lovely by lord Moon's dull light,
Whenceby her powers ere could brood.
And all her life was sought by Blight,
While all the terrors wrought by Fright
Came swift and fast upon the trail
Of Ignorance, who, all outright
Went fleeting past the Widow frail,
And every part of Hermit's dale
Was flooded with the song of Glee,
Who, ever faithful, always failed
To ever save Alacrity.
And all the tears of Fear's dark sea
Were then released to drown the place
Where love could hide inside of thee.
