The Key To Ki

Chapter One: Broken

Maki was fifteen years old, she had piercing ice blue eyes and blond hair, with black tips. She was a pretty average girl except she was quite thin and a kinda short. Her friends sometimes called her tad pile or twig just to get her angry.

Speaking of friends she was sitting next to one. Maki was sitting on Chinro's bed in his house, studying. Chin was one of her best friends, well new bestfriends. She had spent a year talking online and on the phone with him, before they realized they went to the same highschool. They now had lunch together twice a week and met in the morning before homeroom.

Chin was a year older then Maki but that never bothered them, what did slightly bother Maki was the fact that almost every girl in his grade had a crush on him. Chin was a really sweet and kind guy who almost never got mad, there was the exception of when his friends were hurt. Chin was also blessed with good looks, he had deep, soulful green eyes and sightly long brown hair, he was a good height and is also very strong, making him perfect.

" Ok so that guy is the student of Plato, and Plato is the student of Socrates?"

"Yeah."

"Ok I think I got it now, can we stop studying? Please? My head is beginning to hurt..." Maki rubbed her temples as she said this.

"Alright" Chin answered with a smile. As Maki slipped her book into her back pack a thought came to her mind 'a man of few words...so true so true.'

"What?" Chin asked as he saw the look on her face.

"Nothing, nothing at all." Hell looked at her warily and opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the phone ringing.

"I'LL GET IT!" yelled Chin's two year younger sister Amaya.

"Oh no you don't! You have been using the phone all afternoon!" yelled their aunt, Kanna, back, the house then fell silent, all you could here was May going back to her room and the soft murmur of Kanna on the phone downstairs.

Maki fidgeted, she suddenly felt uncomfortable "What's the matter Ki?"

" I don't know..." The murmuring stopped and foot steps were heard coming up the stairs, something didn't feel right.

Kanna walked into the bedroom with a solemn look on her face "what's wrong Aunt Kanna?"

"Maki that was you mother." She said softly.

Her face paled "what did she say Miss Taku?"

"I'm sorry to tell you this but..." She took a deep breath "your father has been in an accident...he's hurt pretty badly. Your mother is going to the hospital straight from work and she wants you to stay here, he's in critical condition and you couldn't see him anyways. So it is better off you stay here tonight, in a little while we'll go over to your house and pick up the things you need for the night, ok?"

Maki only nodded and watched Chin's aunt go, Shin himself was shocked but when he looked at Maki all he saw was a pale, emotionless face and dull, blank blue eyes. 'She is shutting it, me the and the worlds out...she shouldn't do that., it could make her hurt worse!'

Chin touched her arm tenderly and locked his meaningful gaze with her empty one "Maki..." When was the last time he had said her full name?"Don't do this to yourself, it'll turn out ok, just...don't hold it in." His eyes were fulled with emotion and he watched as unshed tears welled up in her eyes. "Maki..."

And then she broke, he suddenly felt like he had just dropped a priceless porcelain doll. As she silently cried he wrapped his arms around her waste and allowed her to lean on him.

Chin had never seen her cry in the three months he knew her in person. Sure there were a few times when someone her other "friends" has yelled at her and when someone picked a fight with her but she just set her jaw and never shed a tear. He was sure her eyes hurt and that she was miserable but he was also sure she was proud that she didn't break down or show weakness.

Chin shifted uncomfortable and decided to take a chance, he slowly laid down on his bed, letting Maki's head rest on his shoulder, soon enough they fell asleep.

Maki woke up to Chin staring at her, his green eyes said and asked so many things 'I'm glad your awake. Are you ok? Do you want to talk about it?' they also showed much emotion, mainly worry and something that looked like contentment. That made her blush.

"How long was I out for?"

"We were asleep for only an hour Ki." Shin smiled and she got p, he too sat up, never taking his hand from her waste, for he felt that if he did she might fall and brake even more.
