Chapter 2: Candy

"Hey there hot stuff," Candy said as she ran up to Alex right outside of her father's office. She had been waiting all day to show him off. He was her toy, her prize. She would make sure that no one ever came between the two of them. The person highest on her list to get rid of was Kitty.

"Hey sugar plum."

"I was thinking…"

"Not too hard, I hope."

"No, I think we should move forward in this relationship."

"Umm… What are you getting at?"

"I think we should move in together. I found this great penthouse downtown. It's so beautiful. It would be perfect for us."

"I don't know."

"C'mon… It'll be close to the space Daddy is going to buy out for you."

"There is no guarantee he is going to buy it for me. I haven't showed him my plans, or he hasn't tried my food."

"You were the top of your class, there's no way he will turn you down."

"I think we should take things one thing at a time."

Candy smiled in agreement. She had her plans for him and he would follow them whether he liked it or not. He may be a cook, but the interior and menu of his restaurant was hers. It was her father was buying the space for. She would make sure it turned out as exactly as she wanted it to.

"Just take me to meet him, ok? I'm a little nervous. I just want to get this done and over with."

Candy grabbed his hand and opened the door to her father's office. She walked him over to the comfortable plush chair that sat in front of a big fluttered desk. She smiled as she sat down in the chair next to him and they waited for her dad.

"Hey sweetie, sorry I'm late."

"HI daddy."

"You must be… Alex?"

Alex nodded and reached out to shake his hand. When her father didn't return the shake he brought his hands back it its resting place on his lap. He felt like an idiot. He had already blown it. He knew he needed Kitty. She always was professional. She knew exactly what to say. Just as he thought of her his phone rang. He gulped as Candy fathered looked at him irritated.

"You better go answer that young man…"

"I'll be right back." Alex said as he rushed out of the office with Candy right behind him. She loved to eavesdrop on other people's conversations. It was her way of finding out all the valuably information. He wouldn't even know she was listening.

"Kitty?"

"Hey."

"You do realize I'm in my interview right now, don't you?"

"I was hoping to catch you before you got there. How many times do I have to tell you to stop speeding, you're going to get a ticket."

"What do you want?"

"Remember to show his the three designs you have in mind not just your favorite. They like it when there are options."

"I only have Candy's idea."

"But we went over this a month ago…"

"Look I have to go."

"You tie is on backwards, flip it around. Bye."

Alex looked down and fixed his tie. Before he could even say anything more, Kitty had hung up. He really needed to talk to her. Maybe it was PMS, but he had never seen her act this way before. It was confusing him. Plus he had been a jerk and he wanted to apologize.

"I'm sorry for the interruption…My mother was ill and needed me to pick up some medication on my way back home," Alex said as he walked back in and sat back down. He couldn't help but laugh inside at the way Candy's father looked. He was short and stubby. It reminded him of an oompa loompa.

"Back to business! I overlooked your design idea and I like it. A modern luxury restaurant, a place where the younger people can go for a good expensive dinner."

"So you like the idea?"

"Yep. I'm a busy man and I have to get going. My secretary will bring in the papers. All you have to do is sign and you have your own restaurant."

"This can't be real… I didn't even tell you anything."

"Candy is my little girl and anything she thinks is a good idea, I think is a good idea."

Alex looked at Candy as her father shook his hand and walked out of the room. He didn't know what to say. She had made all of his dreams come true. It showed him how much she really did care. She would be there forever. He smiled and pulled her into his arms. They kissed passionately as the secretary walked in and sat the papers on the desk.

"You better go pack."

"I love you."

"You too." Candy said as she handed him the papers. Her plan was all working out. If he signed she would be the owner of his restaurant and he wouldn't even know it. In a month maybe two, when his restaurant opened she would be a very rich woman. She'll have enough money to buy the world and everything in it. At least if everything goes according to plan she will."

"Candy?"

"Yeah?"

"Will you marry me?"

"I'd love too! Oh Alex, you have made me the happiest girl on the face of the planet."

"I want to spend the rest of my life with you and no one else."

"Oh, I have to go tell everyone. Especially my mom," She said as she kissed him and ran off.

"What did I just say? Am I really ready to get married? Of course I am. I love her." Alex thought as he dialed Kitty on his phone. He couldn't wait to tell her the good news. He was going to have his own restaurant. She would be so excited that it all was working out. Maybe she could even finally trust Candy.

"Hello?"

"Kitty?"

"Alex?"

"I got it! I'm going to have my own restaurant!"

"Congratulations, I am so happy for you."

"Are you crying?"

"No, they're tears of joy pf course."

"Don't lie to me."

"Why would I?"

"I'm on my way home we can talk then."

"Whatever."

"Kitty, you know I love you right?"

"Yeppo. I'm just like the kid sister you never had. I have to go. Someone's here."

"Kitty?" Alex asked into his phone. Damn it! She hung up on him again. There was something going on. He couldn't stand thinking of her crying. He grabbed the papers and ran out the door. He had to get home and fast.
