Chapter 3: Fallen Tears
"I just don't understand why he does like her?"
"By that you mean why doesn't he like you," Kitty's friend Nikki asked as she entered her friends apartment. She sighed because she knew that her friend like Alex. She would never understand why Kitty couldn't just tell him. She gave her a hug and they sat down on the couch.
"I don't like him."
"I'm just concerned for him."
"Concerned that his manhood isn't being fulfilled. Admit it you have always wondered what he was like in bed."
"How can you that and keep a straight face?!"
"You know it's the truth."
"He is my friend, nothing more."
"Stop denying it, I see the way you look at him."
"Do you know what it's like to loose your best friend because he'd rather think with his dick instead of his heart? We have been through it all and he wants to leave me for some super model wannabe, who I am sure is only using him. He deserves better!"
"He deserves you and that's all I'm saying." Nikki said putting her hands up in the air in defense. She laughed at her friend's mortified look and threw her jacket at her. They met through Alex and have been inseparable ever since. Nikki went to the same college that Alex went. She and always thought they would co-own a restaurant together. But when he started dating Candy last dream she started her own because Candy didn't want her man working with a hottie.
"I know I hate it when I'm right too."
"Did anyone tell you, you're a female Alex?"
"I don't date food. So, no!"
"What would I do without you?"
"Lock yourself in your room and cry for the rest of your life. It's true, you're a drama queen."
Kitty punched her friend as she laughed. Nikki always had something to say. She was the type you can't win arguments with. She would never let anyone cry around her. That was why Kitty liked her so much. She could always count on her to help her sort out any Alex problems. There was just certain stuff she couldn't go to him for.
Nikki got up and walked into the kitchen. She needed to get a drink. She made them both a cup of hot chocolate and sat back down by Kitty. They were like sisters. They swear they were separated at birth.
"Just the way I like it. Loaded with marshmallows."
"I'm serious Kitty. If you have EVER felt anything sexual for him, tell him.
Kitty looked at the picture they had hanging up of the two of them. They demanded to get their senior pictures done together. It was what high school was all about to them, being together. Now that they are older, it's about how far they can be from one another. Kitty missed the old Alex. The Alex who was there when she cried. The Alex who if a guy looked at her the wrong way, the guy had a black eye. That guy had left Kitty crying in the dark a long time ago, and she had to get used to the new Alex, or she may lose him forever.
"I have to go to work. Saturdays are the busiest night and since Alex quit us cooks have twice as much work to do. You should have seen his dad, he was so hurt. Did you know that his dad was building him a huge ass restaurant with his own two hands? It is such a beautiful place and it almost fully built. Now, he doesn't know what to do."
"Yep. The kitchen, my dream come true."
"I thought your dream come true was seeing Brad Pitt's Ass."
"That too." Nikki smiled at her friend as she finished her hot chocolate. She stood up and they hugged each other. Nikki apologized for having to leave. She really wished she could do more, but this was something she needed to talk to Alex about.
"Thanks for coming over," Kitty yelled after her. When she yelled her hand shook and she split hot chocolate all over her favorite white sundress. She curse and hurried and got out of it and ran to throw it in some stain remover. She changed into a small black silky night gown.
Kitty grabbed her sketch book and headed to the living room. She felt sexy, so she had to set her mood. She lit a bunch of scented candles and laid down on the coach. With only the candlelight to see, she started to work on her lingerie line. Some day she knew Kitty's Playpen would take off. She was going to have all the hippest clothes around, for everything from bed wear to formalwear.
"Kitty?!" Alex screamed when he walked in. He didn't know why but he needed her. More than ever before, he needed her. He had the best day of his life and all he could think of was her.
"Alex, I'm right here."
Alex walked over and sat down on the couch panting. He had just decided to ask Candy to be his wife, and of course she said yes. He was going to move out the next day and start remodeling his own restaurant and all he could think of was her. He smiled at her as he regained his composure.
"Are you okay?" Kitty asked sitting up, her body practically visible underneath her night gown. Every time she shifted a little piece of skin would show. Alex couldn't take his eyes off of her. She looked more radiant, sexier, than he had ever seen. He couldn't speak and she didn't know how much he really did want her.
"What is it?"
"I'm engaged. I have to move out tomorrow. She doesn't want me living with another woman?"
"Where are you going to live?"
"In a penthouse downtown."
"Am I going to see you again?"
"Why wouldn't you?"
"Candy… She doesn't like me. She thinks I'm a threat. That I love you and I want to have you all to myself. I sometimes think that her main purpose in life is to tear us apart. I don't think she loves you. She never says it."
"She does to…."
"No, she says you too. Not, I love you."
"What the difference?"
"I just think, if she loved you, she would say it."
"What do you know anyways?"
"Damn it Alex! Why do you always have to be a jerk?"
"Me? I'm the bad guy because you resent the one girl I'm going to spend the rest of my life with."
"When she fucks you over, and she will, don't come back here. I would rather take Jonathon back than you."
"You're comparing me to that asshole?!"
"I only judge a person according to want they do."
"I have never hit you. How have I ever hurt you?!"
"You're so blinded by Candy that I don't even know who you are anymore," Kitty said trying to stop the tears that were pouring from her eyes. She stood up and rolled her eyes. She had already lost him. Alex was no longer her best friend, he was Candy's pimp. She walked over to the TV stand and grabbed their pick.
She didn't say a thing; she just threw him their picture and walked away. It hurt her to much to see him. She finally knew exactly how she felt. She finally understood. She hated Candy because he loved her; Alex was supposed to love Kitty. It was the only part of her life that made any sense, him. His strong will to lift her higher. Her wings were gone and she has fallen.
There was nothing left to say or do. Alex ran into his room and packed all of his stuff. It was clear that Kitty didn't want to talk to him or even look at him. She wanted him gone in his eyes, so he left.
