Chapter 3
Graduation
Hehe well im sorry for how long it took me to write this. I got my first job, lots of projects and stuff that got me hooked. I didn't get any shifts for two weeks so I don't know whats up with my job, but my volleyball season is starting now, and school is busy, so sorry :P But, heres a new chapter!
Later in the afternoon, Darek was starting to gather a couple of nervous waves. Not much, but still some to the point where he was rushing time and half attentionate to those who spoke to him. In an hour, he had his highschool graduation. This was his goal of the year – to graduate. This experience had given him knowledge of the human kind and made him a couple of human friends. He also learned about flirting, an aspect that Mr. Ravenheart never taught him. So his graduation was going to finalize everything, and give him the confirmation that he learned something, by working for it. This also gave him more open-mindedness then his father, as he was strict about his overview of the human kind.
An hour later he found himself sitting on his assigned seat within a group of about 70 students, all the other graduates of the year 2004-2005. The school principal was handing out the certificates now; earlier was all the speeches.
"Darek Farquard"
The croud cheared as he got up and walked to the podium, accepted his diploma, and walked back to his seat. While he was up there, he searched the crowd with his eyes and it confirmed what he already knew: his family didn't give a damn about his education here on earth. He sighed, no time to get mad, there was still an after party to go to. When the class's elected speaker, Jenny Crovenhumm, was finished her speech, the principal gave his closing words and once again the crowd roared. Finally. He thought as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders.
At about mid-way through his school years he thought himself crazy for even considering going to high school, especially since he didn't need to. But then he had many friends, learned some interesting stuff, and got something to fill his time with instead of simply being "the prince of the demons".
He met up with Matt Leyhuron, his good buddy on earth, to talk about the party. Matt was talking with Stacie Jenoughan, his ex-girlfriend. If there's one thing that Darek learned while on earth was to NOT mess with those.
"Hey man, what's happening? Finally done." He asked when their conversation had ended.
"Yeah, finally. Congrats bro. Are you going to the party at Jenny's? Its supposed to be mad wack!" He asked.
"I might, what's the situation?"
"Beers free, anything else you gotta bring it yourself. Smoking's only happening outside, but no drugs. It's all good." He replied while hanging his arm on Darek's shoulder.
Beers means drunken people. That means a blast, which also means drunken chicks. He smirked to himself as he nodded. That's when Matt spoke again.
"Stacie wants me to go with her to her house though, if you know what I mean." He said with a huge smile.
At the face Darek made, which was halfway between a grin and a disgusted look, Matt went on.
"Don't worry, I don't want her back. I'm going to college next year anyways and she's probly going to be off to some university. It's for old time sakes." He explained, enhancing his words by doing over dramatic quotation signs with his hands.
"Ah, alright. Well then I won't go, I mean, it would be fun and all but I just don't feel up to it. I can go to parties anytime anyways! Anyways, I'm getting sort of hungry, wanna grab something to eat?"
"Naw man, going to Stacie's 'member?" He replied with a wink.
"Right now? Shit… have fun." He smiled and then made his way towards a well known café.
He opened the front door of Café Di Amor and seated himself in the booth that he and Matt always employ. Ever since the first time that he came here, he has loved the food. The name Café doesn't suit it much, since they serve a bit of everything, but their coffee is quite good. When he picked up the menu that was already on the table, he felt a small headache coming on. Am I really that tired? Or was the graduation thing just really loud? He couldn't figure it out, so he decided to ignore it.
Darek settled on the Corn Beef sandwich, which was an excellent sandwich at that. When the waitress came by, he gave her his order of corn beef with white milk. He was a fanatic for white milk, drinking a lot of it a day when he could.
Once he got his meal back, he felt yet more pounding on his head, and this time it felt different. Not just a normal pain, but a heated pain. It was weird so he swore to ask Mr. Ravenheart about it. Yes, the old man was his teacher, but he was also a qualified doctor and quite good with finances. The corn beef was excellent, and he promised himself to come back again. Soon thereafter, he left satisfied. His day was just an other boring day, and at least his dad missed it since he was dead.
Trinh had been able to only make 3 quarters of her graduation to get to work. She worked at this café since she was 15; she was now 18 and quite happy about it too. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do after high school though, so she would probably go back for another year. The café she worked at was quiet but still popular in young adults, and it was close enough to her school to not need transport. Either way, she liked working there because it relieved her of her daily stress, kept her busy, and brought in some money. She lived in an apartment by herself, have been since she was 16 and her adoptive parents wanted to move to a smaller city and she didn't.
That evening at work was particularly boring. Usually, right after school, the students would come here for a drink or something, but since it was graduation, nobody was coming. They must all be going to the party or something, she figured. She had cleaned the place twice or so, and the washrooms where flawless, everything was restocked, nothing else COULD be done; she wasn't off for another hour.
About half an hour into her shift, she started feeling weird. It felt like a déja-vu, and it didn't. It felt like she was getting faint, but she felt fine. It felt like something was happening, but nothing was; it was simply weird. She eyed the store and didn't notice anything particular: there were a couple customers, nothing happening outside, and everything inside was fine, the other staff members were either on break or turning their thumbs as well, it was all normal. Trinh shrugged it off, what else could she do anyways? Declare to everyone her insanity? The feeling eventually went away and she noticed that her shift was over.
After checking with her manager and signing off, she walked home to find that her mother wasn't there. She passed by her storage room on her way to her own, that's when she noticed a book on the floor near the door. She couldn't remember dropping one, so she picked it up. It read Diary on the first page, and it wasn't hers, so opening the front page, she found it belonged to her mother, her real one! It made her think a bit, but she quickly opened it to the first couple of entries.
The first one consisted of her parents arguing, her mother wasn't happy with the "decisions" that her father took. She said she hadn't spoken to him since he left for work that morning and didn't feel too good about it, but didn't feel like talking to him about it just yet. The next entry read that she noticed her husband talking with a bunch of men, all dressed in black (like you see it in movies). She didn't know exactly who they were, but from their "situation", she understood that he would speak to her about it if it were serious. Later that night, she confronted him about it and he refused to let up, that's when she wrote "I get the feeling that something is happening, and I don't know exactly what. I don't like it…", to finish that entry. The next entry explains how she confronted him, how he admitted that the man he talked to was the Devil and his mob, and that they had made business. Trinity, Tiana's mother, married an angel, Martin, so she figured that it made some kind of sense, and didn't want to bother him about it any longer.
The next entry made Tiana smile. It spoke about her birth, the love her parents provided her tiny form, and how things seemed to go great. Her father got a raise, they lived well, they had forgotten about the argument she wrote about entries ago, and all was well. The ending of the entry, though, mentioned how her father seemed sad; happy but at the same time very sad. Her mother finished it off writing how she felt something was happening again, she had the feeling in the bottom of her stomach, but couldn't determine what, and shrugged it off, happy.
Darek had orbed himself home, in the parallel world of demons. He shrugged his coat off to give it to the butler who answered the door, having orbed himself at a distance so he could walk a bit. He summoned Mr. Ravenheart to his study chambers, heading there himself. While waiting, which he did for longer then he was happy for, he heard maids talking about his brother's girlfriend. They said she was some human whore, which Darek highly doubted, scowled at the maids silently, knowing they weren't paying attention to him. Then he shrugged it off, not wanting to invade his brother's private life. If he had something important going on with this girl, he would eventually be told.
Just then Mr. Ravenheart came walking in, explaining that he was busy and was sorry for the delay, which Darek dismissed since he wanted to get to the point.
"Today, while at a dinner after my graduation, I had a huge headache and it just kept, pounding at my head. Not like normal headaches, I mean its not pain in just one spot but all over my head." He explained, trying his best to make the tutor understand.
This one nodded.
"Headaches like such, if it is what I think it is, are caused by contradicting auras. Therefore, where ever you ate, there could have been either an angel or a half angel in the room. You, having a demon aura, them having an angel one."
Then the tutor went quiet, thinking some more before speaking up again.
"Or, it could be that someone was trying to communicate to you, through telepathy, but your brain automatically rejected the messaged. Or someone tried to get into your thoughts, but then you would have probably been able to tell where this 'energy' provided." He explained, babbling on.
Darek thought about it, nodded and dismissed the busy tutor, who fled back to whatever he was doing. Darek walked into his chambers and sighed, plopping onto his bed to feel something protruding into his back. He felt an object under weight and picked it up. It was a book, so confused he summoned his maid, who didn't know anything about it either. She left and he opened the book to the first page. It was a book with lines, like a diary.
People who owe me. Was the title that could be read, signed by Matthew, his father; and it went on to list names and reasons and things that people owed his father.
