Then and Now

Then, you were an obsession,
Something I wanted to be a possession.
Now, I'm glad that period's over,
That one when I dreamt of you as my lover.

Then, towards you, I felt affection,
Someone just in my fantasy, all a pretention.
Now, it appears you're nothing to me,
A part you've let yourself to be.

Then, you drove me to the brink of insanity,
Taken away my value, my vanity.
Now, relieved, I am of the burden of you,
I vow now I'd not take you as my beau.
