Chapter 1: Touch this barrier.

An alarm clock rang in the distance. The boy groaned softly before opening his sleep-filled eyes towards another day.

"Gotta get up….." he mumbled as he stumbled his way out of bed.

He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and dressed in his normal everyday blacks. A black t-shirt with a dragon at it's front and black pants.

Silver, quickly grabbed his backpack and ran down the stairs. He stopped at the foot and took a deep breath before he slipped his faceless mask on; the one that showed him as a cold, unfeeling teenager, harder than that of a typical teenager.

"I'm going to school father!" he said towards the direction of the kitchen before he took the front door out.

"Remember what I said!" a harsh voice said behind him.

Not a chance of forgetting it. Especially his show two weeks ago. The picture had nearly driven his heart out.

All that was keeping his sister alive was through his actions.

Silver walked quickly to school. Once there, he weaved his way through the crowd of students to the front door and to his first class of the day.

The bell rang. Silver sat down at his seat with a sigh. He needed to practice his powers. How else could he save his sister?

People filed in.

Five minutes later, the tardy bell rang. The teacher, Mrs. Cornwall came in, trailed by a boy. It was obvious he was new. He was also down to god, sexy.

Silver froze. Sexy? Where did that thought come from? Damnit, he did not need his brain and body fantasizing about another boy when his sister was in danger. The attraction he felt to the boy was strong, though. He despaired on keeping himself detached.

"Class," Mrs. Cornwall said, "This is Galen Paolini."

The whole class chorused a "HI!" except for Silver.

"Galen, you may sit by Mr. Daratraz, since that's the only place not taken," Mrs. Cornwall said, pointing to the empty seat next to Silver.

The boy went and sat by him as he was told to. Mrs. Cornwall started her lecture.

"So, what's your first name?" Galen asked him.

Silver turned and favored him with a cold stare.

"Silver," he said just as coldly as his stare and turned his attention back to the teacher.

Galen was not in the least intimidated by Silver's stare. Instead, he was much more curious. To other people the stare might have been frightening, but not to him. He was a third-degree black belt taekwondo master. Such a stare would not intimidate him.

What caught his attention however, was how beautifully masculine that boy was. Eyes the color of his name, hair as black as night, pale skin slightly tanned by the sun and his black clothing only served to emphasize his pallor.

And those eyes, so cold and unfeeling, as if he couldn't care less if you got hurt. All in all, a fascinating package. That is, if he could get the guy to talk…..

Several classes later, the lunch bell rang, signifying the end of class. Galen got up with a sigh and headed towards the cafeteria.

"Hey, you man!" Someone said behind him. "New guy! Yes, you!"

Galen turned around, puzzled at what the guy wanted.

"Just a little advice for you since you're new," the boy said. "Don't go messin' around with Silver. He don't talk to anybody and nobody talks to him unless he talks to them first. Bad things happen if he gets mad. And he does that easy. Get my dig?"

"I know how to defend myself. Thanks for the advice though," Galen said.

The boy shook his head.

"Ain't no martial arts goin' ta help ya iffen he's mad," was his cryptic warning before melting away along with the crowd.
