Title: Stupid Cupid
Summary: He needs her for revenge. She refuses to fall for him. Throw in a gay twin, and you get a mess. Who knew it could come from a Valentine's Day prank?
A/n: HEY EVERYONE! This is our first fic story. This story is written by 2 authors, me (Vivi) and my friend (shawni)... EVEN THOUGH SHE WON'T LET ME USE HER NAME FOR REASONS I DO'NT KNOW. -Ok, here's the story!
Chapter 1:
RINNG.
RINNNG!
Lily groaned, "Stupid alarm clock. I swear I'm going to kill it one day!"
…You can't kill inanimate objects.
She shook her head forcefully.
What are you doing, talking to yourself? ...I mean, myself!
…I think I need a therapist...
She sighed. Another long day of school was waiting for her.
Pushing her curly hair out of her face, she glanced at the time on her alarm clock.
-10:09 am-
Is toda-…Today is Saturday?
Then…that's my phone ringing!
She turned over on her bed and fell on her butt. Crying out in sudden pain, she crawled across the floor until she reached the phone.
"Hello?" she mumbled groggily, vowing to get her hands on whoever would dare call her out of bed.
"Good morning, sunshine!" a chirpy voice rang.
Taking a moment to recognize the voice, Lily screamed, "Sunshine? I'LL GIVE YOU SUNSHINE! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING CALLING ME ON A FREAKIN' SATURDAY MORNING?"
"Aw, it's so nice to know you're so pleasant in the mornings." Lily could almost imagine her friend, Kyle, giving her a knowing wink.
Suddenly on a serious note, Kyle demanded, "So do you have the roses?"
She rubbed her eyes, hoping to get all the crispy eye boogers out (shawni: I have no idea what vivi was thinking.) Clearing her vision, Lily looked over at her bedside table and saw the red roses nicely wrapped with a large pink ribbon.
"Yes," she grumbled, half wanting to get up and half wanting to fall back to sleep.
"So do you know if Marissa has her stuff ready?"
"How would I know! Go ruin her beauty sleep!"
Kyle chuckled, "Lil, you know Marissa doesn't need beauty sleep…unlike some people I know." Lily heard some strange coughing fits over the phone and felt her temper rising. She wasn't too good with mornings, and she wouldn't be held responsible for her actions.
Taking a deep breath, Lily warned, "Um…Kyle, you've wasted 10 minutes of my time already. I am a second away from hanging up on you." Strangling you seems more appealing.
"Alright alright," Kyle relented. "Just please don't mess up the flowers this time."
Lily thought back to the time when Kyle had been stuck in the hospital. She'd bought daisies a week in advance but had forgotten to water them. Lily didn't understand why Kyle always brought up the dead-daisies incident.
"Hey, you know how me and plants go together…" she trailed off tauntingly.
"Lily!" Kyle shouted.
Lily rolled her eyes, "Yeah, I know- this is your love life on the line. It's all taken care of!"
There was a pause before she added in an undertone, "…Stupid teenage hormones."
"HEY, that's not very nice. Is it my fault that I'm a sexy beast?" He growled over the phone and Lily burst out laughing.
"You wish!"
Before Kyle could shout his indignant protests, Lily hastily added, "Well, you and Marissa meet me here at my house in 2 hours. 'Kay? KAY! Luv ya, bye!"
Hanging up the phone, Lily rested her head on the edge of the bed. She had an evil grin on her face, thinking about the plan the three of them had concocted. Well, and why not? It was Valentine's Day, and it was practically tradition that they be up to mischief.
Smiling tiredly, she climbed onto her welcoming bed…
Knock knock.
…What?
Knock knock knock.
Oh, for the love of-
Lily threw her bedcovers to the side and stumbled out of the tangled sheets.
"Oww!" she howled as her rear end banged against the wooden floor, "NOT AGAIN!"
"Lily?" a muffled voice came from behind the closed door.
"What!" Lily roared, rubbing her bruised behind. "My freakin' as- butt is NOT happy!"
"Dear, maybe it's not happy because you don't seem very happy."
Lily blinked. Di- wha-…she-…What!? Did that even make sense?
"Lily, open the door, please," came an aggravated sigh. "It's not morning anymore, so don't use that as an excuse for your disrespect." The doorknob rattled.
"Open this door, Lily Marianne Craion!"
Said girl winced and hobbled over to her door, flinging it wide open.
Lily's mother took in her state of undress, her cascade of wild hair, and the death glare planted on her daughter's face.
"Well…" Mrs. Craion began, "maybe it's not such a good idea for you to go downstairs just yet." She tsk-ed her way over to Lily, who was still rubbing her butt.
"Oh, Lily, for Pete's sake, quit scratching your butt!"
Lily froze; the calm before the storm.
"Scratch- wha-… SCRATCHING MY BUTT!?" she repeated at the top of her lungs.
"Lower your voice!" Her mother snapped. "Brush your hair, get dressed, wash up, and then, if you possibly can- drag yourself and your itchy butt down to the kitchen!"
Lily sputtered anew.
"And do be quick about it, Lily. You have visitors waiting." Mrs. Craion promptly stepped out the door, and left her mess of a daughter in the room.
It took her a couple of minutes of just plain staring down her door, but Lily immediately understood who the "visitors" were when she finally noticed the time.
Already past noon? When the hell had it already passed noon!
…Have 2 hours really passed?
She shoved on jeans and a T, before jerking a brush through the brown waves on her head. Lily quickly tied her hair neatly into a ponytail before thrusting her face into a current of water. Gasping, she lifted her head and shook the droplets of water clinging to her lashes, rubbing her face down with a red towel. Lily hurriedly brushed her teeth, glancing longingly at the shower that would have to wait until later.
She grabbed a pair of socks and tripped over the threshold of her room, one hand shooting out to grab hold of the frame.
"Lily?"
She was stuffing on some socks while running down the stairs- not an easy task, mind you- when she suddenly remembered the roses. Nearly growling, she stomped her way back up, snatched up the flowers, and made her way into the kitchen.
"Lily?" asked a cautious voice.
No amount of caution is going to keep me from murdering you. I swear, if I hear my name one more time in the next 5 minutes-
"Lily!"
Lily caught sight of Kyle and Marissa, one carrying a letter and the other a bright blue card.
They spied Lily panting in the doorway, but ignored the angry flash in her eyes. It was a normal thing for her to be in a temper.
"Geesh, Lils, fleas get in your bed?" asked Kyle.
Lily started, "Huh?"
"I don't know; heard some yelling about an itchy butt. That why you all a mess in the morning?" Kyle shook his head, "That is information I could have lived without, thank you very much."
It took Lily a second before she snarled and dived at Kyle, "You won't be LIVING very much longer to THINK about it, KYLE!"
Marissa jumped in front of Kyle and held up her hands, the letter she was holding thrust into Lily's face.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Kyle called out. "THE ROSES, LILY. THE ROSES!"
"I will personally trash these beautiful red roses if you do not Zip. Your. Mouth."
"Got it! Got it!" Kyle cried. "Geesh, Your Royal Itchiness," he mumbled.
"Kyle!" Marissa hissed. He blinked innocently.
"That's Highness to you!" Lily was forced to retort, seeing as she couldn't get around Marissa.
"Okay," Marissa tried calmly, sending a meaningful glance at Lily, who huffily crossed her arms in response.
"Your mom made some pancakes. Kyle and I've already eaten, but you can grab some over on that plate." Marissa jerked her head towards the table, and Lily immediately bounded over.
"So," Lily spoke as she gobbled up the pancakes. "Did you end up sticking the letter into the card? Or are you just going to put them both separately in the roses?" She glanced up, and noticed Kyle's face in a grimace as he watched her eat. Deliberately, she opened her mouth and chewed in slow motion.
"Oh!" Kyle turned his gaze away, "Hon, what have you learned about etiquette?"
Lily shrugged in response, closing her mouth and turning back to her plate. Even Marissa was beginning to look disgusted, and this was her best friend! –Who was supposed to stand by her no matter how gross or hot-tempered she became.
"Um…well, we decided to tape the letter into the card," Marissa replied. She brought out some tape and stuck her letter into Kyle's card. Proudly, Marissa showed it to Kyle and Lily, who both leaned in closer to get a look at the fancing cursive script.
"Guess Lil was right about choosing you to write it, huh? You definitely have the best handwriting," Kyle complimented.
Lily once again shrugged, downing a cup of juice, "'Course I was right," she commented off-handedly.
"Ok, ok, listen to the note!" Marissa spoke excitedly. Clearing her throat, she began, "Dearest one-" but was cut off by a disbelieving sound.
Coughing, Lily eyed Marissa, "Dearest one?" she repeated.
Marissa blinked, "Well, why not? What's wrong?"
Shaking her head, Lily muttered, "Forget it. Forget I said anything!"
Clearing her throat, Marissa began again, "Dearest one…"
She peeked at Lily, waiting to see her reaction. Lily gave a huge smile and opened her big brown eyes. Marissa snorted, "Anyway…"
-Dearest one,
My love for you has grown ever since that fateful day I came upon your lovely presence.
I was helping my friends choose out outfits for the upcoming dance at our high school when I turned my head and was caught by the most beautiful arse I've ever encountered.
I had the temptation to walk rightup to you and grasp it in my hands. As you turned your head, I was entranced by your sculptured face, molded, I'm sure, by an angel from heaven.
I have, ever since, dreamt of your absolutely sizzling body.
I have fantasized every moment that one day you could be mine, and I could kiss you and squeeze your bloody hott arse to my pleasure.
Happy Valentine's Day, pleasebe mine!
President of your fan club-
Marissa finished with a flourish, and Lily and Kyle clapped obligingly. Marissa bowed, "Thank you! Thank you!"
Kyle and Lily both called out various; "Bravo!" "Beautiful!" "A masterpiece!" "Too sexy!" Afterwards, the three grabbed the roses and the card and raced each other out the door, bursting out into the humid air.
They began walking in a peaceful silence, none of them wishing to be the first to try and push words past the thick atmosphere around them. Even the sidewalk looked hot underneath their shoes, as it wound in the distorted circle of Cranberry Community.
Their destination was somewhere within the multitude of houses and trees passing them by. There weren't many leaves on the trees yet, since winter had only just ended. However, the sun seemed to think winter had never occurred, beating down just as hotly that day as it was supposed to during the summer.
"Wow, I'm glad I'm not a redhead," Marissa finally commented.
Lily chuckled, "Glad I'm not either."
"Well, your Harry Potter persona is a redhead. You know, Lily Potter, the kid's mom?"
"Of course I know that. And Rissa, isn't it just as bad with your hair? Black's supposed to absorb heat, right?"
"I guess. But isn't there something with redheads and the sun?"
"Don't they get an explosion of freckles or something?" Kyle interjected.
"Yeah, that's it. And their hair like, frizzes, right?"
Lily nodded, "Totally. Mine does that, too."
"What are you talking about? Your hair is as smooth as mine!"
"But definitely not as straight."
"Who cares? Blame my half-asian genes. My dad actually has curly hair…sort of…I think…" She threw her hands up, "Ah, who cares?"
Kyle tensed, "Isn't this the house? 7502?"
"Hmm?" Lily leaned back to glance at the house. "Oh. Yeah. Nice looking out, Kyle."
He grumbled under his breath while Marissa jumped up and clapped, "Come on!"
The house was pretty nice looking; it looked exactly like all the other houses in Lily's community. Average size, two windows on the first level, three on the top, a garage to the side, and bland white paint all over.
As Lily led the way for her friends, she noticed a small garden round the side.
Cute.
...Not you again. Stupid voices. Go away!
There were small daffodils dotting the dark mulch. It was obviously a recently planted garden. The three eyed each other when they reached the front door with its heavy golden knocker hanging at the top.
"Well? Stick the note in the rose and-" Lily chopped off the rest of her sentence when she finally read what the front of the card said:
-Happy Birthday!-
There were even multi-colored balloons floating across the glittery blue cover. Lily blinked confusedly, "Happy…birthday?"
Kyle glanced at the card, and a noticeable flush swept over his cheeks. "Hehe…well, I only had…a birthday card?"
Marissa and Lily blinked.
"Stop blinking!" Kyle looked away and pouted, "It unnerves me."
"It's Valentine's Day! You were supposed to find…ugh! Whatever, it's on your shoulders," Lily said.
Marissa eyed the card a little more closely, "Hey…wasn't that the card I sent you foryour birthday?"
Kyle flushed deeper and jerked the card away from Marissa's view. Marissa frowned, but turned away and placed the roses onto the bristly Welcome! mat that rested before the front door. Kyle followed suit by tucking the card with its letter into the dozen branches of the bouquet.
"Ready?" Marissa whispered. Lily gazed wonderingly at the sky. How was it so hot? It was only February, just barely the end of winter. She stepped closer to the mini garden and examined the wilting baby sprouts.
"Ready," whispered Kyle.
The flowers were yellow and- oh! One was a pinkish-orange hue. Lily smiled wistfully, reaching her pale fingers to the soft petals. The fragrance wafted through her nostrils as she leaned down.
Behind her, Kyle slammed his thumb over the doorbell, and the two waited in baited silence until footsteps were heard coming closer.
"Go! Go!" Marissa whispered harshly, she and Kyle shuffling past Lily, who sat bemused on the barely grown grass. Lily's eyes were closed as she cupped the tiny daffodil. It was honestly the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen.
She didn't hear the muffled creaking of the front door as it opened behind her. Nor did she hear the soft slow steps of sneakers on to the bristly mat. She only heard the gentle rustling of the daffodil before her. She absolutely loved daffodils.
"So…was that the birthday card I sent you?" Lily heard Marissa ask absently somewhere rather far off. She bit her tongue to keep from laughing at the expression that was most likely gracing Kyle's face that moment.
"Excuse me?" came a low voice right beside her. Lily jumped about a foot in the air, and tumbled onto her butt once again.
"Oooohhhh," Lily moaned miserably. She wouldn't be surprised if her rear was turned black and blue.
"You okay? Sorry, I thought you heard me come over."
Lily squinted her eyes at the person sitting before her.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded when she recognized that it was a boy around her age.
"I kind of…live here," he replied dully.
Lily blinked. Goodness, her eyes were getting a workout.
"You…live here?" Her mouth went dry as her eyes darted to the roses in his hands. Oh God no.
"Yeah…" he replied suspiciously, following her gaze to the roses in his hand.
He cleared his throat as Lily was busily processing what to do next. This was him! This was the boy she should've been hiding from! This was beyond embarrassing, she realized, since the roses weren't even from her! To second that, the note wasn't from her either! Oh God, she wanted to cry even as she felt a deep blush sear itself over her face.
She watched him watching her, not really seeing him; thoughts flying around her head. Uh-oh.
But all he said was, "It's not my birthday."
A/n's:
Vivi: Yup, this entire chapter was basicly written by shawni but most of the ideas were mine! I"m not much of a writer but shawni is, so she just started it out for me and i'll TRY, repeat TRY, to do some more writing. Of course, she'll be editing what i write and adding some of her own little ideas.
shawni: Okay, well, I did write a lot of this chapter for vivi, but it was only to keep her from posting only 2 pages. Ahem, Vivi. Anyway, lol, yeah, we hope you liked it! I only wrote a lot cause I wanted to help Vivi (the main author) get started. So, this chapter may mostly be my changes and additions, but the rest will be hers! Promise! The storyline is hers n everything, and I can claim a few names and stuff. So, yeah, ideas? Opinions? Put them in ur review.
