AN - This story is kinda being written on a whim. I started playing it out on my head as a Drake and Josh fic, but nobody reads those on fanfiction, so I'm re-writing it. Enjoy and R&R!

Chapter One

It was my third new school in a year. My third new home. And the third time I had had to start over. I shrugged my backpack higher up on my shoulder and headed up the stairs. It wasn't so bad though. I had started not to care anymore. Why bother trying to make a good impression? I had given up shopping for new clothes before school long ago. Now, I simply wore a gray hoody and jeans with my dark brown hair in a low ponytail. Why even bother making friends?

I glanced down at the paper in my hands as I walked down the halls. Locker 2318. I found it after a few minutes of wandering, dialed in the number and shoved the books I had gotten from the counselor when I stopped by the school the day before.

Shutting the locker with a small bang, I leaned up against it. Now what am I supposed to do? I wondered. I thought about going to the cafeteria and reading a book. Too many people. I settled for standing there, observing the people that passed.

I watched as a thin blonde girl and tall brown-haired boy walk by hand-in-hand. Football Player and Cheerleader no doubt. A thin boy in pants too short – Nerd. A girl with an instrument case in her hand – Band Geek. I looked down at my baggy clothes and knew the label that I would be given – Just Plain Weird.

I was quiet and never struck up a conversation. If someone tried to speak to me, I would reply, but I usually didn't seek company anymore. Especially if it was a guy. I did not speak to guys unless it was necessary.

I continued giving kids Labels as they passed for another few minutes before I saw someone that I couldn't really label. Not at first anyway. He had slightly shaggy reddish brown hair. He had no tale-tell signs of being a Jock, Geek, Outcast, or anything else. Then I noticed the looks that girls were casting at him as he passed. Mr. Right for Everyone. That was who he was.

My hazel eyes followed him as he came towards me in the hall. I expected him to continue past without giving me a look. Instead, his deep green eyes turned in my direction and he went to the locker a few down from mine. I stood still, my eyes flickering over to him repeatedly. He saw me glance at him and he looked over at me.

"Hey," he said, shutting his locker.

"Hi," I answered, making eye contact with him. I had never been one to stare at the floor during a conversation. It should weakness. I had promised myself that I would never let anyone know of my weaknesses.

The boy seemed to have nearly the same thoughts as I did, because he did not look away. "I haven't seen you before. You new here?"

I couldn't help but smirked. "What makes you think that? You know everyone in the school?"

"No," he answered, leaning back against the lockers with a wry smile, "But I'm pretty good with faces. Especially when they're just a few lockers away from mine."

I nodded. "Yeah. I'm new."

He stuck out a hand. "Tyler Landon. Call me Ty."

I shook his hand. "Jessica Baldwin. Nice to meet you." I didn't tell him that he could call me Jess or Jessie. Only my friends called me that. The ones I used to have anyways. And he was not my friend. I didn't know him.

Ty opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by a black-haired boy that came running down the hallway. "Ty! Ty!"

He turned as the boy came to a halt in front of him. "What'd you get yourself into now Jay?" Ty asked.

"I really need your help bro. There'sthisreallyprettygirlinthecafeandItriedtoaskheroutbutItotallyfrozeupand…!" His words were running together, making it difficult to understand him.

I raised my eyebrows. "Bro"? They hardly looked like brothers. Ty was slim and had a slight build to him. Jay was thicker and slightly overweight. I found it hard to believe they were related at all.

Ty raised a hand to cut off Jay's panicked ranting. "Hey, hey. Jay, just relax all right?" He turned to look at me. "Seems that my stepbrother is in a bit of trouble." Stepbrother. That explained it. "I'll see you around, right?"

I nodded, even though I didn't know if I would. Ty and Jay turned and headed in the direction of the cafeteria. I could hear Ty ask Jay, "Okay, so what's her name?"

I glanced at my watch. There was about five minutes left before class, so I figured that I should go look for my class. I double-checked to make sure that I had the books I needed for my first period – English. I had everything I needed, so I headed up to the second floor, looking for Room 357.

I came to the room and glanced inside before entering. The walls were covered in English-related posters – tips for writing, steps of forming a persuasive essay, etc., etc. The teacher – I glanced at my schedule – Ms. Praden, was sitting behind her desk. She glanced up as I came in.

"Can I help you?" she asked.

I showed her my schedule. "I'm Jessica Baldwin. I'm a new student here."

She looked down at it, then looked up and smiled. "It's very nice to meet you Jessica. Let's see…" She pulled out a piece of paper. "Where can you sit?" She scanned the paper, which was apparently a seating chart. "Ah, here we are. You can sit in the fourth row, third seat back, behind Katie and in front of Tyler."

I nodded and headed towards the seat as she wrote my name in the empty place in the chart. The bell rang as I set my things down. Then I realized what Ms. Praden had just said. I looked over at her as students started to file into the class.

"Excuse me Ms. Praden," I said, "But did you say Tyler?"

She looked up. "Yes. Tyler Landon. Everyone calls him Ty. Do you know him?"

I shrugged. What a coincidence. "Only in passing. I just met him this morning."

"Well, I'm glad you'll know someone in this class. He may not do very well in this class, but Ty is a very nice boy."

"Did I hear someone say my name?" I turned to see Ty walk in to the room. "Hey Ms. P," he said, and then he saw me. "Hey Jessica! Didn't expect to see you again so soon!"

"We were just talking about how you and Jessica knew each other," Ms. P explained.

I nodded, but didn't make a comment, before returning to my seat. Tyler sat down behind me. The late bell rang and Ms. P started the class. The class was just starting "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. I had already read it. After briefly describing the plot to us, she assigned us the first chapter to read and find five words that we did not know.

Ty tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to look at him and he asked, "When do you have lunch?"

I shrugged and took out my schedule. I showed it to him. I had lunch at 1:30, the last lunch block.

"Me too," he said with a smile and a nod, "Do you know anyone else here?" I shook my head. "You wanna eat with me and my friends?"

I shrugged. "I guess."

He returned silently to his work and I to mine. I didn't like how Ty was being so friendly. It was making me uncomfortable. Still, the offer of avoiding the awkward moment of deciding where to sit at lunch was one that was hard to refuse. I didn't want to sit alone at lunch. It always seems that, even though there are over a hundred people in the cafeteria, if you're sitting alone, everyone notices you. Besides, maybe I would make a new friend.

After English, I had Algebra II, Keyboarding, Spanish, and World History. I went through the first three classes pretty much unnoticed by everyone. World History, was painful…

I introduced myself to the teacher and took a seat at the back. A minute later, some preppy strawberry-blonde girl sat in front of me. Class began. The teacher handed out a worksheet on the chapter we were reading and, a minute later, left the classroom to "tend to some business", as he said.

I worked silently for a while, the setting my pencil down, stretched my legs. It scooted Strawberry-Bimbo's chair forward. She whipped around a glowered at me through narrowed blue eyes.

"Watch what your doing whore!" she shouted.

That was a bit of an over-reaction… "Sorry," I muttered. What else could I say?

The class was looking at us now. "Good! I was trying to write a letter to my boyfriend and you just messed me up!"

Heaven forbid… I said nothing, but I could feel anger well up inside me. I bit my lip to keep from shouting at her. The teacher re-entered and Bimbo went back to her "work" as if nothing had happened. Witch

I stood with my lunch tray in my hand, trying to find Tyler. What if he had just been lying to me and he didn't have this lunch? What if it was his idea of a sick joke? I felt anger begin to swell up inside me again. First I had to deal with that airhead in my World History class and now this.

"Hey! Jessica!"

I didn't look around. No one here knew me. They were probably talking about a different Jessica.

"Jessica Baldwin!"

I looked in the direction of the voice. Tyler was standing on his chair, waving his arms. I couldn't help but smile. He was crazy. I headed over in his direction as a monitor scolded Ty to sit down. As he sat, I saw who was sitting next to him. Right next to him. Practically on him!

The airhead's perfectly manicured nails rested on his arm as she whispered something to him. I was not sitting next to her! I resolutely turned and set my tray down at an empty seat. I sat down and didn't look back in their direction.

Ty's green eyes suddenly appeared in front of me. "Hey, didn't you see me?"

"Yeah." You and someone else.

"Why didn't you come sit with us? I told you you could."

I shrugged. "Your table looked full."

Picking up my tray he said, "Don't worry, we can make room."

I'm sure she'd love to move closer to you. I had no choice but to follow. Unless I didn't want to eat, and I hadn't eaten breakfast that morning, so my stomach was complaining very loudly.

Ty set my tray down beside his. The airhead gave me a dirty look. I sat down beside Ty and he scooted his chair down a little. "Jessica," Ty introduced, "This is Chris, Richie, Cassie, Mike, and Rachel. Everyone, this is Jessica. She just moved here."

I nodded and smiled at each person except the girl. Rachel. So, that was her name. At least I knew what to call her in my head. Of course, I had already called her several things that I don't wish to repeat, but I knew how to refer to her to someone else.

Ty and his friends talked and laughed as I quietly ate my lunch. Rachel gave me a smug look as she reached into has purse. "Here Ty," she said, pulling out a note, her eyes still on me, "I wrote this for you during World History."

My eyes widened slightly. She was his girlfriend!?

Ty laughed slightly. "Why don't you just talk to me?" he asked, "I'm right here." He took the note anyways and gave her a quick kiss. "I'll read it later. I promise."

Rachel's eyes had a triumphant look in them. Why was she looking at me like that? Did she really think that I cared if she was dating Tyler? I didn't like him. I didn't even know him! Still, I was a little shocked. I couldn't understand what a nice guy like Ty saw in her.

Ty turned to me. "How have your classes been? Make any friends?"

I shrugged and looked at Rachel, who was practically laying on Ty. I smirked. "Well, there was this one girl in my World History class." Rachel's eyes narrowed. "But she kinda blows things outta proportion."

Ty chuckled. "I hate when people over-react about stupid things."

"Me too." Rachel's eyes were positively flaming with anger. I felt a small satisfactory feeling in the pit of my stomach. I expected her to say something, but she didn't. The bell rang and I headed off to my classes without a word.

AN I don't think I'll continue in first person. I want to do some things from Tyler's point of view. By the way, see if you can guess who was originally Drake and who was Josh! lol! R&R please!
