Tom and Adrianne pulled away from their kiss as their eyes spoke volumes. She looked down, a slight blush rising up her face.
"Do you think that maybe… we could go out?" Tom asked her softly as he tilted her chin upwards. Adrianne looked at him and smiled.
"Maybe… once things get better." Adrianne said softly before she got to her feet. Tom followed suite and slipped his arm around her waist. Adrianne laughed softly before quickly kissing him on the cheek. The couple walked through the corridors, both silently thanking God for giving them each other.
One Month Later
"Kris! Just you wait till I get my hands on you!" Adrianne screamed as she ran out of Kris' room soaking wet, splotches of paint on body. Kris let out a squeal from the second floor of one of the buildings in her vast Villa as she hurried to refill her supply of balloons that were filled with paint and water.
"Ah, ah-uh. You're not getting away from me little missy." Tom taunted as he appeared in front of her, a blue balloon in hand. Kris quickly threw a pink balloon at him before running away.
"Aw man!" Tom whined, as the balloon hit him in the chest, drenching his shirt with pink paint. Adrianne appeared from a corner and burst into laughter once she saw him.
"Oh Tom… let me just say that pink is NOT your color." Adrianne said in between laughs. A dark green balloon suddenly hit her on the back followed by Kris' laughter.
"And dark green is NOT your color." Kris said with a smirk.
"Get her!" Tom proclaimed before he and Adrianne tackled their friend to the ground and smashed balloons onto her head.
"Let us tell you Kris, dirty yellow isn't your color." Adrianne said with a smirk.
"No… I hate yellow. Aw… and not the hair!" Kris sobbed as she looked at her yellow stained hair. Tom and Adrianne burst into laughter as they stood up. They pulled Kris up as she joined in their laughter.
"You know… if I didn't love you guys, I would have killed you by now." Kris said, once the laughter had subsided.
"We know." Tom said cheekily. The girls laughed before pulling him into a tight hug. Even though they were covered in paint, and drenched in colors that didn't suit them, they still couldn't help but smile. Now... there was no need to hide behind a mask. No, they would never recover, because there would always be a familiar whisper in the back of their heads. The seductive whisper that would taunt them, wanting them to fall back into the darkness. No… they would never recover… but the only thing that mattered was the fact that they were healing.
