"Daddy, I'm scared." The little girl tugged lightly on her father's shirt as tears filled her amber orbs.

Her father hoisted her up into his arms. "There's nothing to be scared of, Rae."

Rae buried her head into her father's shoulder. "But… but… Kilan… he's scary."

"Look here, Rae. Kilan behaves this way because he doesn't trust us yet. You need to show him that you love him and care for him. Once he understands that we're not going to hurt him, he will be friendlier towards us." He patted Rae's back lightly, comforting her.

Rae looked up, and for a moment, indignation flashed across her eyes. "But Tenjo is not scary! He will play with me!"

Rae's father sighed. "Darling, you know that Kilan was injured right?"

Rae nodded her head silently.

"You see, when you get hurt, you tend to be more cautious of other people. It's the same with Kilan. You understand me?"

"Yes Daddy."

"You will try to get along with Kilan right? Just like how you're getting along with Tenjo. Be more patient. It will pay off."

Rae bit her lip. "I'll try, Daddy."

"Now that's my girl." He ruffled her hair affectionately.

Her eyes darted towards the doorway. Kilan was arching his back in a protective stance, and he was watching her closely with his beautiful navy eyes.

"Scary…."

It was whispered so softly that even her father did not hear it, but somehow, she knew Kilan did.

He heard it.
