In a soft dark forest, brown, green, and glowing figures can be seen. They stand on four spindly legs laced with tiny black hooves. Their body is deer-like with small white spots and a fluff of a tail. Their heads are large and wide, and their eyes are the same, innocent, and beautiful with small horns atop their head. They are shy and are rarely seen. When they are, they come in three's and four's, hiding behind one another, while nibbling grass. Though brown in color, a green light glows from within them. They ought to be called 'Fauns'.
On this one day, three of them were standing together in a secluded patch of grass. As they were nibbling and lifting their heads at the slightest noise, a human hunter was quiet enough to make his way to their hiding place. He watched the beautiful creatures silently, with his gun in hand, though not intending to use it. He laid his gun down, and took a step towards the Fauns.
A twig cracked. Two of the Fauns fled to a spot nearby where they could watch without being seen. The third lingered, and looked towards the hunter. He immerged from the trees and presented himself to her.
In that instant she materialized from the shape of an animal to a person. Tall and slender and still glowing green, she turned into a beautiful woman with long glowering hair like seaweed, and a dress like morning mist. She and the hunter's eyes connected and would not let go. They walked towards each other.
Although, in appearance, the lady spirit seemed for confident and mysterious, in truth she was as curious and as utterly amazed as the human hunter.
The two of them paced onwards until they were standing side by side. Like animals meeting each other for the first time, they inhaled each others scent, and were intoxicated. The green lady reached out her florescent hand towards the hunter. He was afraid to take it, as it looked so delicate, he thought it might shatter if he so much as touched it. But he trusted her, and took her hand, cool and soft. She lead him off the pasture, through the trees, and to some other land.
The two other Fauns stayed watching all the while, hovering in the air now, though they possessed no wings. As they watched their friend leave the pasture, they looked sadly at each other.
"She is changed."
"Yes."
"She will not be coming back."
"No."
"I will miss her."
"As will I."
