Little Brother be good

Dryad was a town of fools exactly as its name suggested. Byzantine was about ready to rip his hair out when he decided this. Stupid Zephyr had lost there stupid directions to his stupid baby sisters new house! How was he supposed to go visit her, hassle her neighbors, and hit her up for money if he couldn't even find her damn house?

"Zephyr! How in this dried up unicorn forsaken world did ya manage to loose the directions Glas left us! They was etched into yer damn mind for Delphi's sake?!"

His weird accent attracted much attention in a relatively small town like this. Some of the people who had done some traveling such as the peddlers recognized it as being from the distant country of Ersatz. Most people laughed when they thought of this particular palace. Overrun with sanitariums it was known for a particular psychopath known only as dire retribution.

Zephyr looked as though he had never really woken up that morning… or ever for that matter. He was walking in steadily widening zigzags down the street with his eyes closed. He muttered something totally incoherent in a language that might have existed about three hundred years ago.

"What was that Zephyr? Yer too tired ta remember right now? Well to damn bad! I need ta find Glas's house right now! Ya need to go back ta sleep right now? Yuv been asleep fer the past three weeks! Since Glas left the house you have woken up what? Five times? That was two years ago! I don't care about yer damn condition! Now open yer eyes!"

Old couples sitting at a small shop on the corner of the street were muttering to each other, wondering what was up between those two boys… or was it a boy and a girl? The sleepy one was almost an androgyny so they could not really tell. A mother was wondering the same thing as she rushed her children past the… would you call them bickering boys? It was more like angry boy yelling at thing who seemed to be sleeping through all of it.

"Open yer damn eyes Zephyr! Open them or I will open em myself then rip em out for yah so you can stay asleep like that for the rest of yer damn idiot life."

There was an even longer string of mumbling this time followed by a sharp smack to the smaller ones face.

"Open em NOW!"

There was a sudden commotion as someone down the street stopped right in front of a moving cart. The cart jumped to a stop and the driver began screaming at the young girl who had stopped his progress. She just ignored him as she stared at the two boys as though they could not be real.

"Zephyr? Byzantine? Is that… Is that you? The real you?"

Glas stood in shock for a few seconds before leaping forward to latch into Byzantines left arm, nearly dragging him to the floor in the process.

"HOLY SHIVA! It's really you! You came all this way just to see me didn't you? Wow oh wow! Your really here!"

At this point she noticed the other boy lying passed out on the side walk. She gasped, not in shock, but in glee as she lunged on the sleeping boy.

"You brought Zephyr with you! How on earth did you manage to get him all the way here?"

She began lugging the boy onto her shoulder.

"I dragged him all the way from home. Man he is heavier then he looks once ya lug him around for a bit. But ya knows he was the only one with the directions to ya house. I kinda hadta bring him ya know. By the way, what in this world where you thinken! Leaving the home all like that and all. I thought I was your big bro!"

The girl looked at her feet as though they were suddenly the most interesting thing in the world. She counted out four mud splatters on her right foot and seven on her left. A thistle was stuck in the thin leather near the top of the right covering and her left covering was nearly worn through at the bottom. She decided to get some new coverings at the shoe store.

"You listen to me! You dumb horse! Are you listening?!"

She was lucky. The shop keeper knew she couldn't afford real shoes so he stitched together old leather scraps for her. They called them coverings. She wondered how they had gotten worn out so fast. It wasn't like she was walking all that much. Just to the Library and back.

"Shiva! Guys I have got to run. I have to go get something and do something then go somewhere and do something else!"

She turned to run when Byzantines hefty hand lay to rest on her shoulder. She tried to shove it of but to no avail. He was to damn strong and he was in a really bad mood now. He grabbed Zephyr who was still asleep on her shoulder and threw him roughly over his own.

"No you don't. You are taking us with you. You are not running away anymore!"

She cringed slightly then turned smiling and yelled for him to follow her. She ran laughing through the street racing Byzantine toward the library all the while crying bitter hateful tears inside. Her mind screamed. Why did he have to follow her? She already had new brothers why did he have to follow. Zephyr, who was still asleep slung over Byzantines shoulder, caught this thought from her and began to silently cry for her as well.
