"WALK THE PLANK!" The sharp end of a sword poked me in the back as I gazed over edge of the plank into the shark-infested water. Cap'n One Eyed Red Ryder stood behind me with his crew pushing me towards the edge with his sword. I took a big gulp of air and jumped over the edge.
I could hear the crew and that stupid parrot laughing as I fell into the ocean below. I was sinking to the bottom fast and there was no one to save me. The pirate ship started to sale away.
I kicked my way to the surface and there was a large fin traveling across the water, coming straight towards me! Just as the jaws of the shark began to open I said, "Wait! Don't eat me!" in the most sincere and kind voice I could muster.
The rather large shark closed its mouth again and asked, "Why not? I am very hungry."
"Because silly shark, I know where there's a whole ship, FULL of nasty boys for you to eat." The shark licked its lips, "If you just bite my ropes I can help you."
Very carefully the shark bit through the ropes and I grabbed onto the fin, pointing the way where the pirate ship had gone. We sped off after the ship so the shark could have a very tasty meal.
Before long we were gaining fast upon the slow moving ship, but Cap'n One Eyed Red Ryder's men had spotted us and the ship started picking up speed. The shark and I were close behind racing after the pirates across the entire ocean for days and nights until soon we were close enough to pounce upon them. The shark leapt out of the water and onto the deck of the ship, chomping on Cap'n One Eyed Red Ryder himself.
I roared with my shark friend as we created chaos upon the ship, "HA HA! We have taken the ship!"
The streetlights turned on with a buzz. I looked up at the towering columns of light, "I got to go home."
Slowly the pirates and damsels in distress scattered across the neighborhood and in to their own houses for a glass of water and dinner. Two hours later as the fireflies began to appear in the night a knock came at my door. I grabbed my flashlight and ran outside with a quick wave behind me. Everyone would be out on their porches or in the front lawn pretty soon anyways.
We gathered in the middle of the street to pick who would be it first, I shouted out, "NOT ME!" last and started counting. "1…2…3…"
I opened my eyes and looked around in the dark, shining the flashlight across lawns and into bushes. My mission was a search and destroy, I had to seek out a hidden unit and shine the capturing light on them for ten seconds to succeed.
Creeping along the wall of the house I kept my eyes open and alert for any movement, it was quiet. Too quiet. I glanced back over my shoulder towards base, it was still empty. I continued on, beneath the cover of the night, into danger. A branch snapped to my right and footsteps bounded forward behind me, I turned with my flashlight frantically searching for a target. Tommy Turner ran towards base, he was the fast kid in town and the light only stayed on him for 5 seconds before he reached his fingertips out to base.
"Rats," I shook my fist and returned to my mission. My flashlight firmly in my hand I crept along the side of the street to peer into a hedge, I could see Rick's shoes at the bottom of the foliage. I stealthily snuck up behind the hedge and clicked on the bright spotlight of my flashlight shining it straight on Ricky.
"HA! GOT YOU!" I grinned triumphantly at Ricky as he turned to stare into the light before sprinting towards base. He'd barely gotten halfway there before I got to 10 Mississippi. I was triumphant. The mission had been accomplished and I had saved the world once again from it's own destruction. I don't know what would have happened if I'd failed, that would have been awful.
The moon rose higher and the night seemed to get darker. My Mom called from across the street and I ran to the door, "It's time to come in, you can play tomorrow."
I pleaded, "Five more minutes…"
But she wouldn't budge, "No, come on, it's late, you can go outside again tomorrow."
My eyes were half closed as I lay down upon my pillow. I loved the summer and I dreamed of what adventures I'd have tomorrow.
