Assignment: Write a poem in 100 words or less. (More difficult than you'd think)

"My Abbreviated Confession"

I have secrets

secrets I should never entertain.

Secrets that, if told at the right time,

wouldn't have had to turn that way.

I am deceitful

and hold my secrets in.

I'm afraid, afraid for my sake,

afraid for the one I'd loose.

Guilt is heavy in my chest,

and aches with each new lie.

I relax with the object of my fraud,

listen as my heart slows,

and I remember why again.

One day I'll come clean

after all is said and done.

We'll come out of hiding, confess our sins,

and lie awake in the bed we've made.
