Chapter One

"Melanie? Melanie? Wake up, we are home"

"What?" Melanie groaned as she got out of the car.

Then remembering all that had happened she ran inside and into her room, where she sat quivering with emotions. She heard a knock on the door.

Melanie? It's me, Timmie. Can I come in?" The door opened and Melanie's three-year-old brother toddled into the room.

"What's wrong Melanie? Why are you crying? Sarah's in a good place now where she doesn't have any pain."

Melanie just had to smile at her youngest, now only sibling who understood her so well, almost as well as Sarah had.

"Timmie, can you - can you go?" she faltered.

Timmie turned slowly and left, leaving Melanie to deal with her grief alone. She climbed up to Sarah's bed and sat down, fingering the thick cat quilt. Memories of Sarah and her together haunted her and she couldn't get away from them. She remembered when she and Sarah had her made a fort out of their bunk beds and had stayed up all night talking about things only sister's can share. Sarah had been more than a sister; she had been Melanie's best friend. Now she was dead.

Melanie lay down thinking. Then she eventually fell into a deep sleep thinking of her one and only twin, Sarah.
