A/N: Explanations
Confused? Good. These chapters weren't meant to be top notch. I'm not putting much effort into this story mainly because I don't have much time while concentrating on school and Gossamer Wings. It was originally meant to be a lighthearted fiction, but the drama's gone deeper than I intended. Here's a quick overview of characters, relationships, and changes they've gone through. Note that The Devil and I is from Lilah's point of view, and her biases may conflict with my impartial summaries.
i. Characters
A. Lilah Wesson
Brown-haired, gray-eyed. Rather short for her age (17). She has a very pessimistic, sardonic attitude and enjoys insulting people. She's also our protagonist. At the beginning of the story, when Lilah is still in the U.S., she displays her dramatic nature at the clinic/nurse's office, and also while interacting with her family and classmates. Upon arriving in England, and after meeting Anthony, you may notice the difference in her attitude. She doesn't snap at every person who has a run-in with her, nor does she swear profusely at the nearest personafter falling into the mud during football/soccer tryouts. Her relationships with others and inner conflicts begin to occupy her mind instead of issues of higher importance. Throughout the story, you'll tend to hate her and love her at times. But that's Lilah for you.
B. Anthony Linwood
Ashy blond hair, blue eyes. Tall and lean (18). He's very loyal to his friends, and loves engaging in verbal battles with Lilah. However, his friends, as you may have noticed, are higher on his priorities list than Lilah. He doesn't hate her, yet he dislikes her at times for her judgemental manner. Can't tell too much, here, otherwise there wouldn't be a point to the story. :)
C. Maybella Wesson (Mae)
Blonde; gray eyes. Same height as Lilah (16). Mae is probably the character who hasundergone the most changes throughout the story. Mae is the antagonist. She doesn't come back to her sister to have a lovely family reunion again, though they will be forced into several awkward situations together. Sorry, folks. You'll be seeing lots of Mae in the future.
D. Jackson Barrett
Dark brown hair; steel blue eyes. Tall, but a bit lankier than Anthony (18). Ah, Jack. Our fine-mannered asylum escapee. Although it may not be obvious, Jack and Anthony are very much alike. However, Jack is much more subdued than Anthony. He's very sweet and considerate, yet temperamental. His role won't be too big until later chapters.
E. Ainsley McGregor (Darcy)
Brown hair; green eyes. Slender and tall (17). Darcy is very cocky. In fact, she's one of the cockiest characters in the story, aside from Lilah and Anthony. And perhaps Rosalyn. She's one of the toughest cookies in the batch, and deals with her family problems accordingly and keeps family and school completely separate. She's also a funny character who delights in causing laughter.
F. Rosalyn Hart
Black and blue hair; gray eyes. The second antagonist. If you don't despise her already, learn to. :) Rosalyn is very intelligent, although her mouth can lead her to trouble, as well as her fist. I actually admire Rosalyn for her individuality, yet her "affinity for men" irks me a bit. She and Mae are intimate friends. She's also a very close friend of Anthony's. Rosie will be setting up many of the obstacles in Lilah's path. Don't blame her. :P It's her job.
G. Emily Gallagher
Red hair; green eyes (18). Emily is Lilah's happy-go-lucky best friend at Canterbury. She's partiallya maternal figure in Lilah's life, which she gets accustomed to almost immediately. Of course, waking up at five A.M. for practice didn't go too well. Emily generally likes being kind to everyone, and she has a hard time keeping grudges; hence the jacket misconception. Emily is unique because of her both childish and maternal nature.
H. Harper Locke
Black hair; brown eyes (19). Ah, Mister Elbows. Harper was originally a highschool dropout from northern England before moving to London at his uncle's wishes. He plays significant roles in the future. Despite his wild gestures and elbowing, he's a carefree, lovable guy. :D
I. Olivia Barrett
White hair; steel blue eyes. Tall and slender (41). The most imposing figure in the story. She has three sons, including Jack. You won't be seeing much of her until much later, so don't worry too much.
J. Elizabeth & Samuel Wesson
Very distant from their children. Not very significant until later chapters.
K. Rebecca Bentley
Lilah is not acquainted with her, which also means the readers have yet to meet her. A character that impacts other characters of the story through the past.
There are other minor characters that I've missed. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask.
ii. Relationships
A. Lilah & Anthony
This relationship is on very unstable ground at the moment. Although they don't hate each other just yet, they tend to dislike each other to a very high extent. Don't expect too much chemistry yet.
B. Lilah & Mae
Lilah and Mae will never go so far as to hate each other, as Lilah and Anthony will, but they'll certainly endure several battles with one another. A very intricate relationship.
C. Lilah, Emily & Darcy
These three will remain atrio of close friends. The sardonic bitch, the maternal child, and the depressed clown. A queer combination of oxymorons.
D. Lilah & Jack
Friends. Definite physical attraction between the two, as you'll see later.
E. Anthony & Rosalyn
Loyal friends. Can't tell too much here. :/
F. Anthony & Jack
Former friends. It will definitely take time to breach the gap between them, though it won't stop them from trying. They're also very stubborn and full of pride. The entire conflict concerning Rebecca could possibly have been sorted years ago, if Jack hadn't left.
G. Anthony & Mae
Hopefully readers out there haven't beem mislead by their little embrace in the park. In reality, Anthony pities Mae. He sees how the relationship between Lilah and Mae has changed, yet considers it none of his business. Therefore, he refuses to interfere. Despite how close Anthony and Mae seem, they're actually very distant.
H. Jack & Darcy
Although Jack wants that special spot beside Darcy once again, Darcy is unwilling to grant it. Darcy may seem like the insecure one out of the two, when, in fact, Jack is unsure and fearful. Their relationship is currently in the principle stages.
There are dozens of other relationships that I could explain about... But in all honesty, I don't think they're very significant. Questions? Feel free to ask. This was mainly for Bagelmoo, and others who were confused by the last chapter, or confused at all, for that matter. :P
Hope this helped.
