I've Forgotten How
Several hours later, Ann hunted Lain down. Lain was sitting comfortably in the same chair as before in Demon's lap.
"Dan's on my cell for ya." Ann said, handing the phone to her.
Lain took the phone and put it to her ear, aware that Demon was watching her carefully.
"Dan?"
"Yo! I got a question for you."
"Yeah?"
"Are you still a virgin?"
Lain blinked. How the hell did he know? "Not anymore…"
"As of tonight, am I correct?"
"Uhhuh… How-?"
"Are you with him now?"
"Yes… but—"
"Demon, right?"
"Yes—"
"Lemme talk to him."
She paused and sighed. "Alright… but…-"
"Just give him the phone. I won't tell him anything embarrassing about you, promise."
She cracked a wary smile. "Alright."
She handed the phone to Demon. "He wants to talk to you…"
Demon looked confused before he held the phone to his ear and said, "Hello?"
Lain listened intently, but couldn't hear what Dan was saying.
"Uhhuh… Yes…Alright…" He smirked and shook his head. "Aye aye captain." He said sarcastically. Then he hung up.
"What'd he say?" She questioned immediately.
"Threatened to nail my dick to the wall." He answered nonchalantly.
Lain rolled her eyes and then put her head in her hands. Demon kissed the back of her neck reassuringly.
"So… Lain huh?"
She jerked her head up and met his curious eyes.
"You could've just told me yourself."
She shook her head. "No, you wanted my name."
He looked confused. "What?"
"Never mind." She looked away and quickly involved herself in a conversation.
She was walking, and thinking, as usual. Her mind was only a blur of thoughts to the point where she didn't even realize she was passing the place where he awaited her. She continued her pace, nearly passing him before he stopped her suddenly, pressing her back against the wall, succeeding it gaining only a small gasp from her.
"Trying to avoid me now?" He asked rather darkly.
She blinked at him, relaxing when she realized what happened.
"No. Lost in thought." She replied blandly.
He made a small grunt in response and gazed silently into her eyes. She held the steady gaze until he finally spoke.
"Your name." He demanded, rather then questioned.
"What about it?" She replied smartly, though she knew what he wanted.
"Give me your name." He said coldly, succeeding in sending a hidden shiver down her spine.
"Why?" She asked. It was a good question. Why did he want to know her?
"Because I gave you mine."
"I didn't ask for it."
"Well I'm asking for yours."
She paused. She really didn't have a way out of this one, she realized. Her silence frustrated him and he leaned closer to her face so she could feel his hot breath on her cheek. She wasn't sure if the sensation in her stomach was fear, but she knew that he wasn't going to let her go until she gave him her name.
"Call me Lain."
"Call you? Is that your name?" He questioned.
"It is as far as I and anyone else you ask is concerned." She replied snappily, giving him a cold look as if he had no right to question her.
He stared at her for a long time. He was holding her up against the wall and watching her as her hair fell in her face while she gazed steadily back at him. In any other situation with any other girl you would expect her to look helpless and scared, but she didn't.
"How do you manage to never look helpless?" He questioned, watching her features closely.
"I've forgotten how." She murmured back tiredly.
