Chapter 2. First Day

It was the first day of school. Steve and his friend, Ben, were walking towards their new school. They had recently completed elementary school and were now progressing to high school where they would complete grades 7 through 12. It was a large red-brown building three stories high. Steve was told it held approximately 1500 students. He was told it also had an indoor pool. It was a good choice of school. He was looking forward to spending five years in it. There was a big park behind it with large hills that were created by the digging of the artificial lake. It was beautiful. The grass was mint green and there were section that still had many trees. It was the largest park in the city. Actually, it was more like a suburb. Most of the people around had houses. There were very few apartment buildings around and even those were not bad looking. It was a nice place to live. Everything was calm.

Steve and Ben were curious to see if they knew anyone else at this school. Like it often happened, old friends tended to get separated when they changed schools. Steve walked into his first class with his friend. They shared the same schedule. They got lucky. It was much like any first day: the teachers exchanged their formal presentations and the students listened quietly. Some people knew each other and whispered during the presentation. Steve and Ben were the same. They didn't care much about what the teachers would say during the first day. They already knew if they would like them or not and beyond that, nothing mattered. The second class was the same. Once it was done however, something happened. While they exited the class room, Steve and Ben were getting odd looks. People were pointing at them and whispering. Steve looked behind them and saw some kid say something to another. All he could make out was: "Fat". He realized they were just making fun of his friend Ben because he was a little overweight. It was odd how there were few chubby kids around. In fact there were hardly any at this school. Steve ignored the people walking behind and kept walking towards the stair case. Beside the doors that led down the stairs, there was a group of people sitting on the benches in the corner of the wall. They all seemed older than they were.

"Hey guys, look at that fat kid over there! Isn't he a fine target?" One of the boys said. Steve was completely upset at the rudeness of those kids but did his best not to look at them. As he and his friend walked by the bench, one of the kids grabbed Ben's arm and pulled him towards them. Steve immediately helped Ben in the struggle for his release.

"Let him go!" Steve snapped. He was able to pull his friend free of the kid's grip.

"What are you going to do about it you little shit?" The boy shouted back at Steve.

"I'm not scared of you!" Steve shouted back and was about to approach the group but Ben held him back. The kids laughed.

"Why don't you come join us in front of the school, outside, at lunch time… we'll see if you're scared or not." The boy laughed.

"I'm going to make you take back what you said about my friend, you'll see." Steve said. He really wasn't afraid of them. The leader of that gang was older and taller than he was but it didn't make him stronger. Steve had been in many fights before and he was very confident. Even when his physical strength was less than a match with his adversaries, he compensated with his mental strength. He was a natural fighter. He didn't fear pain and his methods were fierce. He would give that older kid a good fight if he was man enough to face him alone. Steve expected him to be overconfident that his bigger size and older age would give him the advantage. It was Steve's greatest ally to have others underestimate him.

"Whatever. Just be there." The kid laughed. Steve and Ben walked to the staircase and started to go down the stairs. Just behind them, Steve recognized the kid that was in his group: the one that was talking behind their backs.

"That was stupid dude. You have no idea what those people do to fat kids around here." The boy said.

"I'm not scared. I can take him." Steve said confidently.

"Dude! That's so not cool! Those guys run the school. You're asking for trouble." The boy said annoyed.

"How can a gang of stupid kids run a school? Dude, you make no sense." Steve frowned.

"I guess you're just going to find out the hard way." The guy said before heading in another direction. Steve thought that guy was just crazy but it bothered him to be around crazy people. He looked at him as he was walking away and frowned.

"What an idiot. This school is full of crazy people; don't pay attention to them." Steve said to Ben.

"What are we going to do?" Ben asked.

"At lunch time, we go out the front and you let me do the fighting. Hopefully, that asshole won't gang up on me like a pussy. I can take him if he fights me alone but if his friends help, it's going to be a short fight." Steve said.

"Cool. Kick his ass." Ben replied.

After the next course it was lunch time. Steve and Ben did what they said they would do. They got out the front and looked for the gang of punks that gave them a hard time. As they expected, they were all sitting on a stone waiting for them.

"I was beginning to believe you wouldn't show up." The gang leader said in their direction.

"Fuck you asshole! Stop fucking insulting us. I'm gonna kick your ass and then you'll apologize to Ben and leave us the hell alone." Steve yelled.

"Calm the hell down. You want to fight? Let's fight. But not right here." The guy said.

"Where then?" Steve asked annoyed. The gang leader pointed his finger to an isolated corner of the building. There was a fence and two walls than made up a dead-end. No one was around there and no one would hear anything if something happened. Steve hesitated and then nodded. It wasn't like anyone would help them. Even if they fought in the middle of the cafeteria with all the people around, no one would help them anyway. Steve and Ben followed them to the dead-end corner. Steve waited until the gang leader stepped away from his friends. Ben stepped away also. Steve squinted to see if the gang leader was going to make a move. Just like he thought, he attacked first. Steve put up his dukes and waited until the guy was just in front of him before shoving one of his fists against the kid's forehead. The kid retracted for a moment and then pushed Steve as hard as he could. Steve fell to the ground but it didn't hurt at all. He got up in a heartbeat and started kicking the trash out of the gang leader. It was his turn to throw him to the ground but when he did, he made sure it hurt. Steve held him to the ground with his knee. One of the gang members left the wall and pushed Steve off. Steve was upset and hit that kid in the face for interfering in the fight. Soon, they all swarmed on him.

"You fucking cowards! Fight like a man! You guys are so damn lame." Steve insulted the gang that held him against the wall. The other half of the group shoved Ben against the fence. Both of them struggled in futility. Steve could see Ben was scared but he, on the other hand, wasn't: he was just upset. Now he couldn't defend his friend's honor anymore. Little did he know that he had more than his honor to protect…

Steve could see a pair of pointed teeth lurk out of their mouths.

"What the fuck?" Steve whispered. The people that held him against the wall laughed and looked over to what was happening with the fat kid. Ben saw the fangs that were sticking out of all their mouths and freaked out. He cried for help as loudly as he could but no one came. He struggled as hard as he could until the gang leader took the first bite of his neck. Ben squealed for a while. His blood pressure decreased so much that he fainted as the gang leader was sucking out the blood that was meant for his brain. Steve's jaw fell open. He froze solid. The gang leader gulped and gulped and gulped as the red blood was filling his stomach. When he was done, one of his friends took over and gulped as much as he could. It went on like that for five minutes. Ben was dead long before that. The gangsters that fed last had to suck out blood from different regions of Ben's body. One of the girls lifted up the dead fat boy's shirt and bit into Ben's abdomen. Another one tried getting some blood from Ben's right leg. When they were all done, they let the fat boy drop dead on the floor with open gashes all over the place. Steve was paralyzed.

"You're lucky you're not fat like your friend was because we would bleed you to death too you little twit." One of the gangsters said to Steve.

"What the hell is this?" Steve whispered to himself.

"We're going to let you go… but you better not tell a soul of us do you understand? You tell anyone, I mean anyone, and they won't just be your last words but it'll be your family's too. You got it?" The gang leader said. Steve kept looking at his dead friend and couldn't respond but he got the message. He was released but he still couldn't move. He could see a senior walking in their direction.

"What the hell are you kids up too?" The senior student asked. He walked closer and saw Ben. He lowered his sunglasses and looked again.

"Oh, another fat kid eh? Alright, I'll get it cleaned up. Just stop acting so unprofessional Tyler. There are more discreet places to do this kind of stuff than here." He said to the gang leader.

"Ya, ya, I know. It's just these kids were so annoying, you know?" Tyler said and then turned around to Steve.

"What are you still doing here? Get lost you little shit." Tyler said. Steve turned around and walked away silently.

He showed up to his next course… alone. He didn't want to say anything. He was still in shock. When he went back home to his parents that day, they asked him what was troubling him. Steve realized he had to live a secret from now on. It was the only way to be safe… and for his family to be safe. He couldn't tell anyone his school was run by vampires.

"Nothing." He said.

"Did you make any friends?" His mother asked him. Steve shook his head.

"What about Ben, doesn't he go to that school too?" She continued. Steve hesitated for a moment and said:

"I thought so… but he moved out at the last minute… he doesn't live here anymore." He answered.

"Are you going to make new friends?" His mother continued. Steve shrugged.

"I donno… maybe." He hesitated.

For many weeks Steve didn't speak to anyone and kept his distance. He walked quietly past people like a ghost. He tried his best not to attract any attention. He knew where the vampires liked to hang around but he was careful everywhere. It was odd that he couldn't find any information about them through books or even on the internet. All he found were silly things that were completely unrealistic. For example: the vampires in his school didn't mind the sunlight, they ate just as much garlic as everyone else and they didn't feed off humans at all… or at least not in public. Some people disappeared here and there but it was rare. Mostly what happened was that the vampire population grew. People who were visibly human one day came back a vampire the next week. There was no detectable pattern: No one could tell who was going to become a vampire and who would die. Luckily either one was rare. Still, every human was a possible target except the teachers. For some reason the vampires left them alone… they must have had some deal with them. Whatever it was, it wasn't part of Steve's reality.

One day, Steve had some bad luck. As he walked down a corridor he could see there was a girl being attacked by a small vampire group. They all looked like seniors though, or not far from it. Steve didn't know the girl who was being attacked but he found it impossible to stand by and watch. He dropped his school bag on the floor and jumped into the pile of seniors. He swung his arms and legs from side to side, hitting everyone but the girl he was trying to help. Whatever he did… worked. The girl got away but he was left in her place. Everyone was focusing on him. Even the human bystanders looked attentively. Steve fought all he could but these vampires were much stronger than he was. There was nothing he could do. He was pinned against the wall by just two of them as the others formed a parameter around the scene. Steve struggled but kept quiet.

"This one has spirit. Alison, come here." A senior man said. Steve could see a woman come forward from behind. She looked very confident and strong. She wore all tight black clothing. She had black hair and mesmerizing brown eyes. She had such strength in her eyes… She was beautiful. She walked slowly towards the man that called her, approaching the victim.

"He looks like your type to me. He's full of life, what do you say?" The man said. Alison looked at Steve from bottom to top and stared him carefully in the eyes. She hesitated but she seemed focused on the boy she was being offered.

"Come on Alison: you're going to have to do it some day. Wouldn't you rather it be someone courageous?" The man said.

"This is a great catch, I know… but I think that ritual is pointless. We don't need to feed yet." Alison said honestly.

"If it isn't you, it'll just be someone else. It's just one kid, come on. Don't you want to make the elders proud?" The man said.

"I already made them very proud." Alison sighed and then continued:

"Alright, mark him." Steve started to struggle again. Alison approached him even closer and placed her hand on his chest.

"Don't fight it. It'll just make things worse." Alison said softly. Something about her voice really calmed him down. Steve stopped struggling instantly and looked Alison in the eyes. Alison looked back into his and took a step back. They kept staring at each other. The man who called her took out Steve's wallet and pulled out his ID.

"Alright, let's go." He said. The two vampires that held Steve suddenly let him go. Everyone started walking around again just as if nothing happened. Steve stood still and kept his eyes on the woman. When all her friends were gone, Alison finally turned around and walked away. Steve stood very still but he was alone now. He didn't know what all of that meant but he knew he was marked as a target. Something would happen to him and whatever it may be; it was bad.

Surprisingly enough, nothing happened for the rest of the day. Steve got on the bus. The bus left as usual. Everything was as usual. Steve was relieved to have survived the day but something told him it wasn't over. He looked out the window and saw a big black car with tinted windows drive fast past the bus. The car pulled in front of the bus and forced it to stop. The doors of the car swung open and three completely cloaked people came out of it. They were all covered with thick black cloaks and facemasks with sunglasses. The three of them ordered the bus driver to open the doors. The moment he did, two of the dark people climbed part of the steps. The one at the bottom of the steps was a woman. She looked in the bus and inspected its passengers. Then she looked at an ID card she held in her palm and pointed the man in Steve's direction. She stood there while her two colleagues climbed onboard and abducted the boy. Steve stood no chance but he could remember what Alison said about his struggles and he decided against fighting it. He let the two men carry him out and throw him in the back of the car. Once they were all in, his abductors removed the masks they wore. They were all adults. They had pale skin. Steve had never seen people like that before. He supposed they were the elders. He kept his mouth shut. The car pulled up next to a big house in a quiet street. The elders placed their masks back on and dragged Steve out of the car. They brought him to the basement of the house and then opened another door that led even lower underground. The hallway they walked into was dark and moist. The walls were all stone from here on. The air was chilly. There were dark rooms on either side of the hall but they kept going straight to the end of it. The hallway ended in a large dark room. There were candles lit all around it. In the middle, there was a large stone table with symbols carved and painted into it. Not far from it, there was a stone bench. Alison was there. She sat quietly and looked at the new arrivals. She didn't say anything; she just stared. The people that brought Steve there held him near the stone table in front of Alison and stripped him bare. Then they lifted him and set him on the table. They tied his limbs down with rope. When they were done, they turned their attention to Alison.

"Just remember to wait until the hunger consumes you." A man said to her.

"You know as well as I do that that won't happen. I don't need to feed yet." Alison said.

"This ritual isn't about the need: it's about the will. Just remember that." The man replied before disappearing with his friends and with Steve's clothes.

Steve looked all around the room. He could feel a cold moist breeze flowing against his soft skin. He shivered. He blinked in disbelief at what was happening to him. Then he turned his head and looked at Alison. The woman was focusing on his nakedness. Her eyes glided slowly inspecting the flesh that was presented before her. She couldn't help but feel aroused. She was breathing silently through her mouth and stared at the boy's penis. She stared for a moment and then she blinked and looked down at her feet. She sighed and looked back up to meet the boy's gaze. She closed her mouth and started to breathe through her nose. She took a few deep breaths and calmed herself down. She kept staring back into the boy's eyes. Steve was afraid to say anything but there was something about this woman that made him feel much more comfortable that he should be. He was so calm, so quiet, and it was because of Alison. After a long moment of staring into her eyes he finally whispered to her:

"I don't want to die."

Alison closed her eyes for a moment and then looked away.

"This isn't that kind of ritual." She said finally.

"What will happen to me then?" Steve asked softly.

"You may become a vampire." She said even more softly. Steve looked away and struggled as his breathing accelerated. His eyes squinted as he frowned and tightened his teeth. He wasn't happy. He felt like crying but nothing came out. He moaned at the futility of his struggles and stopped fighting. He rested and guided his breathing to calm him down. Alison looked at his belly expand as he breathed slowly. When Steve was calm again, he turned his head back to the woman. Alison was staring sadly in his direction. She looked uncomfortable now. Something was bothering her.

"Alison…" Steve whispered to the woman who was staring at his chest as he breathed. Alison looked back into his eyes.

"I don't want to be a vampire." He continued softly and then gulped the dry lump he had in his throat. The woman started breathing through her mouth again. Something was running through her mind and was taking all her concentration. Finally the woman stood up. Steve could see her bosom rise up and down rapidly. The woman approached him slowly. She stopped just beside him and looked down at him. She extended her arms towards his body but hesitated. Her arms stopped in midair and her palm and fingers looked like they wanted to keep going. She looked from his feet back up to his scalp and her eyes hesitated. Alison closed her mouth and swallowed some spit. She gently laid one hand on his chest and the other on his soft belly. She breathed deep and sighed.

"I don't want you to become a vampire either." She whispered.

"I like you just the way you are." She continued. Steve sighed in relief.

"What about the others?" He asked hesitantly.

"I'm not going to let them touch you." Alison said honestly.

"Don't you need to perform this… thing?" Steve was unsure.

"It's a stupid ritual designed to allow anyone to gain some prestige. It isn't necessary." The woman answered.

"But you're a vampire… I don't understand." Steve said.

"I'm not a real vampire yet; the others are. I don't need to feed; they do." Alison said.

"What if they try and kill me?" Steve was worried.

"I won't let them." The woman reassured him.

"What if they hurt you? I don't want to see you get hurt for me…" Steve said sadly. At that time, both Alison and Steve could hear footsteps heading in their direction. The elders were returning. Alison looked down the hall and then back into Steve's eyes. She smirked and kissed him on the forehead.

"They won't hurt me." She said simply.

Alison stepped back from Steve and looked at the vampire elders that came in.

"Hmm… I thought you would be finished by now… that's all right: we can come back later." The leader said.

"Forget it. I'm not doing it." Alison said before the group could turn around to leave the way they came in.

"What?" The man said.

"You heard me. I'm not doing it." Alison confirmed.

"But you must!" The man started.

"No, I don't. It's a stupid ritual. I don't have to do anything. I've gained enough prestige already." Alison continued.

"That you have… you make us all very proud… but this is our way of things and you are one of us aren't you?" The man said.

"I am a vampire yes… I am one of you but it doesn't mean I have to feed when I don't need to." She said.

"Alright Alison. I don't see why you would choose to defy our ritual like this but it is your choice. The fact of the mater is: this boy has been marked and if you don't complete it someone else will take you place." The man said. Alison shook her head.

"Not this boy. He's under my protection." She said.

"What do you mean?" The man was baffled.

"It means he's mine and no one else can have him. Is that clear enough?" Alison said defensively. The man that stood next to the leader stepped forward:

"Are you kidding? He's a human! What could you possibly hope to achieve with this?" He said aggressively.

"That's none of your business. He's human and I want him to stay that way!" Alison said.

"We can't let him leave. You'll just have to let us dispose of him." He said angrily as he stepped to the stone table and gripped the boy by the throat. Steve gasped to breathe and struggled as the man slowly descended to his level and showed his long white canines from his upper jaw. Before his face reached closer to Steve's neck, the man was violently shoved aside and forced on the ground. All the other vampires stepped back and watched. The one that was on the floor got back up angrily. He stormed towards Alison, showing his large fangs and hissing along the way. Alison jumped in the air and kicked him in the face. The man was pushed back by the momentum of the kick but avoided the next one. When Alison landed on her feet, the man struck her violently on the stomach with his fist. As Alison was tilting forward to absorb the impact, the man lifted his knee up into her lower jaw and pushed her down to the floor with his other hand. Alison massaged her jaw a little with her hand and got back up.

"You may have been a great challenge to all the others but you're not better than the real vampires yet, Alison." The man said as he put his dukes up to continue the fight.

"We'll see about that." She said simply before she unleashed a rapid combination of kicks and punches. The vampire defended himself as much as he could but the hits that past through his barrier were stronger than any he had felt before. It wasn't long before Alison was hitting him violently down to the floor. The vampire man covered his head with his arms in surrender but Alison didn't stop hitting him. She stretched her arm well behind her back and used her torso to increase to power of her punches. The vampire man pushed off with his legs as hard as he could and crawled backwards in fear. He waved his hands around in surrender. He was terrified.

"That's enough Alison. You proved your point. You're by far the strongest young vampire anyone has ever seen. I can't possibly imagine what you will become after your two-year sleep. You will surely be assigned a position of great power. You will be amongst the Coven leaders in no time. Stray and Jax will be very proud of you." The leader said. He sighed and then continued:

"We aren't going to harm you little friend but we can't insure his safety outside this house… you understand?"

"That's why I'm going to be protecting him at all times." Alison said after she calmed her breathing.

"Okay Alison. Just try not and give us a bad reputation in your school. I don't know what your obsession is about this young man but as long as you keep an eye on him, that's fine with me." The leader said as he approached Steve and looked at him carefully.

"He probably would have made a great vampire." He added.

"That's not for you to decide anymore." Alison said honestly.

"I just hope you don't let the attachment you have to him interfere with your development." He said. Alison took another long look at the naked boy and said:

"I will become what I was meant to become, I promise you. I will have no equal." She confirmed.

"I know you will. Alright guys: let's leave Alison alone." The leader said as he helped the wounded vampire off the ground.

"You shouldn't be so hard on him." The leader said to Alison concerning her fighting.

"He started it." Alison said defensively. The leader smirked and walked away with his followers.

Alison looked back at Steve.

"Well that went well." He said in relief. Alison smiled and was quiet for a moment.

"Yes… it actually did." She finally said as she stroked her wounded jaw with one of her hands.

"Are you okay?" Steve said as he saw there the lower part of her jaw was noticeably bruising. Her lower cheek became bluer and the bottom of her throat was red and purple.

"Yes, I'm fine." She smiled and kissed him on the forehead.

"Here, let met get you off this table." She said as she untied the rope that bounded his limbs against the cold stone. Steve jumped off the table as soon as he was released and curled up into a ball as he shivered in his nakedness.

"Could I get my clothes back?" He asked delicately.

"Of course. Come with me. I think I know where they are." She said as she lent him her strong hand and helped him off the floor. Steve followed her down the hall. He kept both his arms around him and warmed himself up with the friction of his stroking. Alison soon disappeared into one of the side rooms and came back out with Steve's clothes. She hesitated to hand them over but in the end she gave them to him and watched as the boy got dressed.

"You know I didn't do all of this for free right?" The woman asked hesitantly. She didn't want to sound greedy or conceited. Steve looked back at her and stood still.

"I don't understand… what could I possibly have to offer you?" Steve was unsure where this conversation was taking him.

"Nothing of raw value… Let's just say you're stuck with me for a while." She said honestly.

"You're saying I'm under your protection but I still don't understand." Steve said.

"You'll understand when the time comes. I just wanted to make sure you knew how much you depend on me now." She said.

"How long do you think you can keep this up? How long do you thing you can stand by me and protect me? You're a senior aren't you?" Steve was curious.

"I'm in eleventh grade, actually. I have no idea how long I can keep this up. I just really hope, for your sake, I will be capable of protecting you for the two years I have left." She said sadly.

"What happens after that?" Steve was curious.

"I'll tell you later." She answered.

"Why are you helping me?" Steve was hesitant.

"I like you. Just stay on my good side and I'll take care of you." She said simply. Steve was worried for a while.

"What if you get bored of me?" He asked softly. Alison shook her head silently.

"Let's not think that far ahead. We barely know each other." Alison said as she led the way to the basement of the house.

"I like you too." Steve said in a sincere way. Alison stopped at the top of the stairs and waited for the young man to catch up to her. When Steve was past the doorway, she placed her hand gently on his cheek and smiled.

"Then we won't have a problem." She said happily. She took his hand in hers and walked him in the garage. She pressed a button on the wall and the automatic doors opened. She took the keys from the key rack and switched on one of the Mercedes Bens that were parked in the large garage. She sat in the driver's seat and waited for Steve to sit down next to her. When he closed the door, she shifted the car in reverse and backed out of the driveway. Steve tied his seatbelt and looked at the neighborhood.

"You know you weren't supposed to make it out of that house right? I think it would be best if you didn't look at the address or the street names just in case you're tempted to tell someone." Alison said as she noticed that the boy was looking all around.

"I'm not about to tell anyone anything." Steve said honestly.

"You can't even tell anyone about me: do you understand? Not without my express permission anyway." Alison affirmed.

"I understand." Steve said.

"You may or may not approve of your responsibilities towards me but consider that the alternative is far worse." She continued.

"There is no other alternative. Death is not an escape." Steve said honestly.

"Right… that's right. I'm sorry this happened to you. We all suffer in this imperfect world. I'll try my best to make our time together as comfortable as possible for you." She said.

"Why did I have to enroll in a school filled with vampires anyway?" Steve was confused.

"Actually, all the schools in this zone… this city, are the same way." Alison said.

"How is that possible?" Steve asked.

"Let's just say you entered a much larger world than you were led to believe. Whatever you think the world is like around you is a lie. There are other countries in which the vampire population is starved because they ravaged all their supplies and weren't careful about their increasing population." She said.

"What does that make me?" Steve asked in a scared way.

"That makes you a precious source of food for our kind. But… like many zones that, we, the Coven, control, you fall under our protection of these other vampires." She said.

"Are we all doomed to become your food one day?" Steve asked sadly.

"If things keep degrading in other parts of the world… I'm afraid so. If our zones could be kept safe indefinitely, that wouldn't be a problem. We have a dual sources of food… it's what makes us different from the rest. Right now though, the problem is that our second source, clone blood, is a luxury that many of our kind can't have. Most of the other vampire cultures simply breed your kind and keep them in cages until they are fed upon. Those humans have no life and they never reach maturity. They are raised and butchered like cattle. Here it's different. People lead normal productive lives. Many people here ignore our existence completely and will never have reason to know of us. That's what the Coven is fighting to protect." She said.

"You mean it's possible for us to live in harmony?" Steve was stunned.

"I've seen it done before. We are very much alike. There is a way for us to live together but it'll never happen unless we fix what's happening all around us." Alison said.

"Listen: there will be plenty of time to discuss this tomorrow. Let me just drive you home okay?" The woman was getting tired.

She had to sleep most of her afternoons. Because she was an important vampire, she had to spend most of her time awake at night with the elders… the real vampires that were nocturnal only. Alison had to keep her focus on what was going on all around the world as she was learning how to become one of the greatest Coven leaders. She was sixteen, going on seventeen and she already possessed the talents and knowledge that even national leaders couldn't even dream of. She had dedicated her life to create the perfect world and she was well on her way of making it… if it wasn't for the other vampires… The Rebels. They threatened to take down what little the Coven was able to create from the time it all began. They had killed her parents and turned the humans into livestock. They were a menace and a disgrace to the vampire race. There was no way they could sustain their population growth and it threatened every living thing on the planet.

Alison pulled over to Steve's home and let him get out of the car.

"I'll see you tomorrow." She said. The moment the door closed she drove away. She couldn't be seen there for too long. Steve entered his home and noticed his mom was looking out the window at the car that had just left.

"Who was that?" She asked him.

"Just my English teacher mom. She was kind enough to drive me home today." Steve said hoping his lie wasn't spoiled. If his mother had paid more attention to the person driving the car, she could have picked up on the lie. Luckily, his mother was distracted.

"That was rather a rich teacher don't you think?" His mother observed.

"What do you mean?" Steve hesitated.

"That was one hell of a nice car." His mother smirked.

"Ehm… well she must be married to a rich husband, what can I say?" Steve tried his luck. His mother laughed and left the side of the window.

"So you didn't feel like taking the bus or something? Why were you so late? I was worried about you." She told him.

"Don't worry mom… I was just caught up in a conversation with my English teacher." He said. His mother nodded and left.
