A Little After Nine

A sky of azure

On a clear autumn morning

Hangs over a city

That never ever sleeps

A little after nine

Most have tucked into work

Sipping mugs of coffee

Groaning about their overstuffed inbox

But this morning

At a little after nine

Something will happen

That will change the course of history

A seemingly horrible accident

How could a plane

Fly straight into a sky scraper

On such a clear, cloudless day?

But no, there is no accident

A second plane strikes

And time

Freezes

Shatters

Stops

As horrified bystanders watch

Our famed twin towers collapse

A plane is lost in a field

And the Pentagon is targeted too

Grown men cry

Small children watch as horror

Unfolds before their very eyes

As news stations report the unbelievable

3,000 lives lost

In a matter of seconds

Minutes

Hours

Eternity

As we cope with the loss

To this very day

The people of Flight 93 offered us some advice

"Let's roll"
