Wails
By

A woman wails
A father pales
The recession stand
The cradle lies in the arms
Of the father and a reluctant brother

Off they go
Off they trot
To go to the burial plot
Empty of all dirt
Six feet down

The family cast their heads
The cradle is lowered
The women watch in tears
The men a perfect indifferent body
Dirt is piled by the hand full
By family and friend alike

The mother falls inside
Begging not to let her baby go
The father angers
Fury lacing his eyes

She does not get up
She wishes to die.
