Once, You and I

Once, you took my hand
And walked me through the dark.
Safe and set in light,
I smiled and thanked you.

Once, you held me tightly
And asked me to stay.
Warm and cared for,
I nodded and felt your heartbeat.

Once, you kissed me
And beneath your lips, I trembled.
Excited and loved,
I found my happiness.

Once, you left me
And I walked alone.
Sad but hopeful,
I waited for you.

Once, I woke
And my heart did not ache.
Confused and nostalgic,
I wrote this poem.

Once, I loved you
And though I no longer do,
With smiles and tears,
I will remember you.
