Annie walked into work the next morning she had a long night of arguing, her and John had been up all night fighting. John hadn't came home that night until twelve he was usually home by ten thirty. When asked where he was all night he said he was out with the boys and a strong smell of liquor lingered on his breath. She sat down at the employee table with a cup of coffee she had twenty minutes before she had to clock in. She lit a cigarette and propped her head against her hand. When she looked up her best friend was walking towards her.

"Whats wrong with you? Been up fighting again?" Jess knew it was a usual thing with the two.

"Yea, you know it." Annie said rolling her eyes. "All night long."

"What'd the ass do this time?"

"Didn't come home 'til twelve. Didn't call me or nothing just left me there to worry about him."

"Fuck him, me and you ought to go out leave him to worry." Jess smiled.

"Should." Annie took a drink of her coffee. "He puts me through hell sometimes. He was out drinking I could smell it on him. After he promised me he wouldn't do it no more."

"Sweetie you should of known better, I've got to get back out there, we'll talk more later." Jess smiled and walked away. As Jess walked away Robbie came back and sat down.

"Good morning." He smiled at Annie

"Good morning." She smiled back.

"Ah, you must be having a good day." He laughed.

"Not really, I had a really long night of fighting and arguing." She let out a heavy sigh.

"Yeah I know what you mean, I had one of those nights too. She unplugged my clock so I would miss work today."

"Sounds like a spiteful bitch." She smirked.

"Yeah pretty much."

"Well its about time for me to clock in." She said walking away from the table. 'He's not too bad of a person.' She thought to herself and the same thoughts ran through his mind.

As the morning passed on Annie couldn't wait for a break she was in bad need of a cigarette, when Lou told her to go on break she jumped at the chance. She paid for her food and called back her order. She waited a few minutes before getting her drink and silverware. She went and got some banana peppers off the bar to add to her grilled cheese sandwich and as she walked to the window to get her food it was gone. She turned as Robbie walked out into the front.

"Where's my food?" She asked him.

"I carried it back to the table for you." He smiled.

"Oh you're too sweet." She smiled back, and walked back to the table. 'He might not be too bad of a person after all.' She thought to herself and began to feel slightly bad for denying him of a ride yesterday. Twenty minutes into her break he came back to the table and sat down lighting a cigarette.

"Enjoy your food?" He ask.

"Yeah, very good." She smiled brightly. "Look I've got to admit something its been eating at me all break." She looked at him with her eyebrows scrunched.

"Well what is it, that you have to make that kinda face for?" He laughed.

"Yesterday when you asked for a ride to Grove I said No when you asked, the truth is." She sighed. "I live there I could have givin' you a ride."

"I know, it's ok." He laughed. "I know you live there I've seen you many times getting in and out of your car."

"I'm sorry I was just being really bitchy yesterday." She slouched a little feeling two inches high. 'Why do I have to be such a bitch?' She asked herself.

"It's fine. I promise." He smiled.

"Well you know if you need a ride home today I will be more then glad to give you one." She smiled back at him.

"Sounds good." He put his cigarette out and began to walkaway. She was relived to get it off her chest. 'Underneath it all he might be a good guy.' She smiled to herself.

At four Annie and the girls did their usual of counting their money. Annie waited on Robbie to get done so she could take him home. The car ride was silence until they reached the apartment complex.

"Would you care to give me a ride to work in the morning?" He asked her.

"Of course not." She smiled.

"I really appreciate it." He said getting out of the car.

Annie gathered up her purse and apron and walked to her upstairs apartment to find John laying on the couch.

"Why aren't you at work?" Annie said throwing her things onto the chair beside the door.

"I didn't want to go." He looked her way.

"It's not a matter of wanting to go or not wanting to go you have to go, if we're going to make this work." She said getting angry. "Rents due in about two weeks three hundred and fifty bucks and I still have to buy groceries and pay the electric bill." Her beautiful green eyes began to fill with tears.

"It will be ok, I'll get money from mom."

"No John!" She screamed. "We are doing this on our own! This is the fifth time you've missed work in three weeks." She grabbed her purse up and walked out the door slamming it behind her.

John jumped up quickly and chased after her. "Annie come back." She ignored him and made her way down to her black dodge neon. "Annie please come back here." He said following her.

"No, just leave me alone I don't want to talk to you." She slammed her door and put her key in the ignition and drove off.

She didn't return home until nine o'clock. On her way into the apartment complex Robbie was setting outside on a bench. "Hey." She smiled at him. "Why you setting out here in the cold?"

"Been fighting with the bitch." He looked at Annie sadly.

"Yeah I've been fighting with him today, He didn't go to work today." She said as she took a seat beside him. "I don't know how were going to make it." She let out a sigh.

"Well I don't know how much more I can take. She's constantly finding something to fight about."

"That's no kind of relationship, Robbie." She looked him in the face. "there's always going to be fights in a relationship but when you just make something up to fight about its childish."

"Well that's what she is, Childish. I'm going to get back in there I'm freezing." He sighed. "I'll see you in the morning." He patted her on the shoulder as get walked inside. She sat there by herself and looked around at the night sky. She wasn't ready to go back upstairs to her apartment she didn't want to face him she was still mad but she had to sooner or later. With a heavy sigh she got up and walked up to her apartment.

"Where have you been?" Was the first thing she heard when she swung open the door.

"Gone." She gave him a smart ass look.

"Don't get smart with me, who was that guy you was talking to?"

"Robbie" She rolled her eyes. "A guy I work with, and before you even ask we were talking about him and his girlfriend fighting and me giving him a ride to work in the morning." She slammed her purse down and walked past him into the bedroom. Him following right behind.
