"My name is Laura." it was coming from the row next to mine. "Your Clarice, right?" I looked over to see the voice was of an incredibly happy, peppy girl with long blonde hair, leaning across the aisle and speaking in a low voice.

"Yeah, how did you know?" I asked stunned that anyone knew me.

"Your sister is Jose. I know her from our study group." she looked me over quickly. "Your nothing like her you know."

"So I've heard." my tone was flat and sarcastic-and that was how I meant it- but I could see that Laura didn't like it.

"Well, I was just wondering if you would like to come and study with us this afternoon. It is loads of fun!" it was as though by just speaking these words her spirit was lifted to the same level as when she told me her name.

"No thanks. I have enough to do as it is. But thanks for the offer anyway Laura."

"Okay. Well, see you around then. Bye." she said over shoulder as she left the room. Looking around I saw that everyone else still in the classroom were making their exits as well. I hadn't noticed the bell ringing through our conversation.

"Bye." I said in return as I was grabbing my books and harshly thrusting them into by bag. The day was not going as well one could hope, but I was sure it could have been worse.

This is it. I thought to myself displeased. The end of the first day of the rest of my life. I am really not looking forward to the rest of my senior year here in New York. Why did I want to come here anyway? This was not what I was expecting!
