Sonnet to the White Shadow

A soft and silky silence takes the night,
And you can feel the comfort of my song.
For in the darkness you can sense the light,
And see that truly 'tis for me you long.
My name shall not be whispered o'er your ear,
My face is but a shadow in your mind.
In dreams I seem a light that's always near,
So near that us, our lives, our strengths do bind.
Would you deny my true existence here?
A light to guide you in your short-lived quest?
I am the good you strive to hold so dear,
The love you knew, who'd flown from Earth's harsh nest.
A messenger of peace, that lovely tone,
A white shadow am I, to take you home.
