Chapter 10 – A Little Step Closer?

It was a month since I started my arrangement with Josh. I was at Rick's house watching a TV program with Rick in the family den, when an envelope addressed to Rick and Josh arrived. Rick tore open the envelope, and cursed loudly after reading the enclosed card.

"What's wrong?" I enquired.

"Kellie is a real bitch! How dare she send her wedding invitation to us after what she did to Josh! She even enclosed 2 return air tickets for us to attend her wedding in France. Did she not stop to even think what this might do to Josh?" Rick ranted angrily, and by the end of this, had thrown the envelope down on the floor in anger.

"Hey, calm down. You don't have to attend her wedding. Just throw the invitation away." I said soothingly, and wrapped my arms around Rick.

Rick let out a huge sigh to calm down, and without a word, pulled me tight against him. His lips captured mine and his tongue slipped into my mouth. His hands traveled down to grip my butt and he pushed me against his front, where I could feel that he was starting to be turned on. One hand slipped under my shirt and I couldn't help but let out a moan when he began to knead my breast through my bra. He was about to slip his hand into my bra to cup my bare breast when we were interrupted by the entrance of Josh.

Feeling embarrassed, I quickly removed Rick's hand and smoothed down my shirt. Without any expression on his face, Josh acknowledged my presence with a nod, and proceeded to settle himself on the sofa to watch TV.

Giving his brother an incredulous look, Rick asked, "Hey bro, do you mind? We were about to start something here. A little privacy please?"

"The program that I wanted to catch is starting now." Josh replied.

"Can't you go to the other TV room?" Rick asked.

"This room is nearer to mine, and it's more comfortable."

"Then can't you just record the program and watch it later?" Rick asked in an exasperated tone.

"I want to watch it now."

"You… argh… forget it. Sam, we'll go to my room."

Before we could make any move, Josh stated. "Might I just remind you that Sam is supposed to be spending time with me today? It's Friday."

"Most of the time you don't even hang out with Sam on your designated day. You only hanged out with her once in the past month." Rick shot back.

"Even so, Fridays are my designated day with Sam. If I want to spend time with her on Fridays, you have no say in it." Josh replied in a calm tone.

"Can't you just switch this once with me? Sam spends tonight with me, and you can get next Wednesday with her. I kinda need some attention right now." Rick said, with a rather pointed look at his lower regions, and we could all see that he had a hard on.

I couldn't help but burst out laughing, and when Rick turned to me with a look of mock hurt, I quickly covered my mouth with my hands to smother the giggles.

"Well, I think you can settle that problem yourself. You have hands don't you?" Josh quipped with a straight face, and upon hearing that I burst out into fresh gales of laughter.

"Stop laughing Samantha! It's not funny! You have no idea how painful it is not to relieve this need." Rick retorted.

I couldn't stop laughing, and Rick was busy trying to get me to stop that we didn't realize that Josh had noticed the envelope on the floor and had picked it up. Rick fell silent, and when I followed his gaze, I noticed that Josh clutched the envelope in his hands. My laughter immediately died, and before Rick could say a word, Josh stood up and left the den, holding the envelope in his hand.

"Shit, I should have thrown that away just now." Rick cursed.

I kept silent, not knowing what to say. After 15 minutes spent in silence, I got up and decided to look for Josh. I knocked lightly on Josh's bedroom door, and receiving no reply, I pushed the door open and entered the room. The lights were off, and the room was shrouded in darkness, but the light from the hallway provided enough light that I could make out a slight figure on the bed.

"Josh?" I asked quietly but there was no answer as I made my way over to the bed.

The envelope with the invitation card and air tickets were scattered on the floor beside the bed, so I picked them up and placed them on the bedside table. Sitting on the bed beside Josh, I gently rubbed his arm, trying to offer some comfort.

"Do you want to talk? I can provide a listening ear." I offered.

Hearing no response from Josh, I tried again. "Would you like me to stay with you?"

I could barely make out a slight shake of the head from Josh before he whispered, "I just need some quiet."

I let out a deep breath and stood up. I made my way back to the door but I could not bring myself to leave him all alone in this dark room. I made a decision and shut the door. I slowly made my way back to the bed, and quickly lay down on the bed beside Josh. Josh removed his hand to peer at me through the darkness. "I thought you left?"

"I couldn't leave you here alone. I'll just lie here and I'll be quiet. You can still have your quiet time." I then wrapped my arms around Josh and snuggled against his side.

Josh fell silent, but after some time had passed, his arms came round to tuck me into his embrace. "Thanks." He offered quietly.

I smiled to myself and after several long moments of silence, I was lulled to sleep by the up-down breathing motions of Josh's chest.
