So this is the last chapter of this story. She is 87, he would've been 88. I think it's sad, but I'm also happy I finished a story as I wanted to. So thanks for reading and here is it:
She saw the brightest light.
'Where am I?' She thought as she tried to sit up from the bed.
A figure came towards her. She squinted her eyes to try and recognize the man. As he came closer she started to see his shape.
"No, this can't be. This is not real!" She exclaimed.
He started to smile. "It's real honey. It's me."
He took her hand and pulled her up.
"It is you. What are you doing here? Where is here anyway?" She questioned him.
"You're in the hospital and I'm here to take you with me," he explained as he guided her out of the hospital bed.
"To where?"
He pointed at the source of the light. She looked in the direction he pointed. There was a door with a porch.
"Where does it lead to?"
"Come with me. I'll take you to the porch and you'll see."
He looked at her face.
"I know you want to know everything on forehand. But let me lead this time."
She scowled, but followed him. Halfway she noticed something about herself. He saw her slowing down and smiled.
"What's happening?"
"You're changing back to your 35 year old self."
"Why?"
"Because that was the period of your life you were most comfortable with," he said as they reached the porch.
"Now look down," he said.
Together they looked down.
"That's the waiting room."
"Yes it is. All the hours I've sat there, waiting for a kid with a broken arm, or a spraining from you. Now all of our kids are there, waiting for some news about you."
She looked back at him. "What's going to happen when I'm going with you?"
He turned serious. "Then you're dead. They're going to get bad news. They're going to get over it together and our grandkids are too young to remember."
"And if I don't go away with you?"
"You'll go back, you'll live a little longer and one of our kids will eventually take care of you."
She looked at him. "I'll go with you," she said.
"Are you sure?" He asked amused.
"Of course I'm not," she said frustrated. "Sure whether I want to be dead or not. Sure is I want to leave my kids alone. Sure if I never want to know my next grandchild? I am not sure!"
He let her rant and then took her in his arms. "I know you're not. I know I wasn't."
She took a step back and realized. 'He's dead, he's gone. What is all this?'
"I know it's a lot to take in. And it's not just any decision. But I know you. Think about it. Do you want one of our children to take care of you?"
She shook her head.
"So do you want to come with me?"
She nodded and took his hand. "Let's do this."
He guided her to the open door. They looked back one more time before closing the door.
"Will they be okay?" She asked.
"They will and we'll be waiting here for them to get here when it's time."
"We'll be waiting like you waited here for me?"
"Yes we will. But the most important is you're here with me again," he said as he took her in his arms again.
"You were really waiting for me? And in time we'll all be together here again?"
He looked her loving in the eyes.
"Yes I was and yes we will… Always."
