Josef LEVERATTO'S

HOTEL CALIFORNIA

SCENE # 1

CAR. FRONT SEAT.

THEME #1

We see a woman. She looks somewhat happy. She is tapping her finger on the wheel to a song. The woman is also humming softly the words to Pink Floyd's "Hey You." It's about to end. The scene starts off when the lead singer is screaming around the end. Then the radio host begins to talk.

RADIO HOST

That was Pink Floyd's "Hey You." Next on our line up for you rock and rollin' night owls is "Hotel California" by the Eagles.

The song begins and she begins to nod her head. The song is soft and she hums the song quietly. Then a loud crash comes at the windshield. It seems to be a deer.

JOAN

Fucking deer!

It causes her then to steer out of control. The car begins to swerve. The car then falls of the side of the road and crashes into a tree. She is slumped over the steering wheel with her forehead bleeding. The car is still on. Camera zooms into the radio and fade to black. The song continues to play through out the credits.

CREDITS.

SCENE #2

HOTEL. LOBBY BENCH.

THEME #2

We see JOAN lying sideways on the bench. The cut is now dried up. Her eyes open. She slowly gets up after she opens her eyes. She rubs her eyes. He eyes squint at the brightness of the room. The hotel clerk dressed in all white stares at her with a smile. She looks around and realizes that its a hotel lobby. She gets up and makes a sound of pain. She immediately gets back down. The clerk continues to stare at her. She gets up and she limps to the counter.

CLERK

Is there anyway I can assist you ma'am?

JOAN

Yeah, first of all I am not ma'am. Call me anything but that word.

CLERK

That is a quite strange reaction to such a polite gesture. It is common for an employee such as I to speak to the people who are visiting the hotel.

JOAN

Well I am not in the mood for such gestures sir. I am in pain.

CLERK

Would you like me to send you to the medical wing?

JOAN

Yes please, but first I would like to know where am I and how I got here.

CLERK

Well you are staying at the Hotel California.

JOAN

No shit, just like the song.

CLERK

I suppose ma- I mean-

JOAN
Joan Gutter.

CLERK

Ms. Gutter. Well to answer the other question is that you were brought here by the Man in White. His name is unknown to me, but he brings the people to the hotel.

JOAN

Why wasn't I brought to medical attention immediately?

CLERK

I was unaware you were in pain at this moment. I have been waiting for you to awaken. I need to sign you into the hotel guest list in my data bank.

JOAN

(begins searching pockets)

No, I am not staying here, I just need a doctor. I need to use the phone since my cell phone seems to have disappeared so I can call someone to pick me up after the doctor takes a look at me.

CLERK

I am sorry Ms. Gutter, but no one leaves the hotel...alone.

JOAN

What do you mean?

CLERK

You cannot leave.

JOAN
Yes I damn well can.

CLERK

No you damn well cannot.

JOAN

Why is that?

CLERK

It is due to the reason that you are in a coma with everyone else in this hotel.

JOAN

What? What are you talking about?

CLERK

This is the place where spirits go when their bodies are in comas.

JOAN

I don't have time for this shit. Give me a fucking doctor now!

CLERK

Ms. Gutter I am going to have to ask you to tone down your language.

JOAN

Not when your trying to feed me bullshit like I am some horse's ass.

CLERK
(presses the intercom)

Security, I have this troubled woman who needs to get to the medical wing immediately.

SECURITY

We'll be there.

CLERK

Security will be with you shortly ma-Ms. Gutter.

JOAN

Thank you.

Security guards clad in white to escort her.

CLERK

Have a nice stay Ms. Gutter.

JOAN

Well fuck you too.

We see her being taken through the halls of the hotel. They go through the medical wing. She begins to fade out a little. FADE TO WHITE.

SCENE #3

HOSPITAL WING. BED.

THEME #2

We see her awaken in an empty medical wing. Her eyes flinch because of the brightness, but soon gets used to it. She looks around with her eyes to recollect everything that happened. She sits up. She touches her head that has a bandage slowly and flinches. She turns her body. So her legs are hanging. She slowly slides off and begins to walk around slowly. She is not in a gown. She just has her normal clothing, with a head bandage. She walks out the door. She is now in hallway. She walks down it. She then sees a group of people sitting on a couch and individual chairs. One man had a chair from the eating area since one of the chairs from the table was missing. She grabs one and sits beside him.

MAN

(keeping eyes on TV-Heaven Can Wait, New Yorkan accent)

So, I here you made quite a fuss when you came here. You woke a few of us up.

JOAN

Well, I am sorry for waking you up, but where the hell am I?

MAN

(eyes on TV)

Haven't they explained what happened to you?

JOAN

Yeah, but- that bullshit is true?

MAN

As scary as it may sound shit is not what they fed you.

JOAN

So this is really purgatory?

MAN

Yeah, limbo.

JOAN

(hands in face)

This can't be happening.

MAN

It's better to stop denying it. The reality of it all will sink in faster and you can be over it.

JOAN

So everyone here is in a coma?

MAN

That's what I have been led to believe.

JOAN

So this all the people in the world who have comas before us?

MAN

No, only those in the state of California hence the name of the hotel.

JOAN

I do not know the name of the hotel. What is it?

MAN

Hotel California.

JOAN

(laughs)

Like the song from the Eagles?

MAN

Yup, same exact thing that came to my mind first.

JOAN

So this is definitely not a dream. I feel sorry for the guy at the front desk.

MAN

The weirdo up at the front?

JOAN

Met him before huh?

MAN

I told him to go screw himself after I heard this story.

JOAN

I went for the cake and told him to go fuck himself.

MAN

Whoa, feisty.

JOAN

(looks at him)

What's your name?

MAN

(looks at her)

I am David. And you are?

JOAN

Joan. (pause) So how long have you been here David?

DAVID

I have been here for a few weeks. I almost lost track of time, since there is no reason to here.

JOAN

So we do nothing all day?

DAVID

Yup.

JOAN

Must be paradise.

DAVID

Yeah I know. Only thing is, my kids are in the...real world, whatever you want to call it. I miss them very much.

JOAN

Ah I see. I could not imagine how much you miss them. I do not have kids.

DAVID

A spinster?

JOAN

No, just have not met the right guy yet.

DAVID

How old are you?

JOAN

I am turning thirty next month.

DAVID

Thirty? Thirty and you still have not met the right guy? What do, or did, you do for a living?

JOAN

I worked for Pacific Bell. I have no life. I do my job and get what I get paid.

DAVID

Do you get paid much?

JOAN

I get a hell of a lot of money. I just don't have the person to spend it with.

DAVID

I see.

JOAN

(pause)

Did you say earlier that I woke you up?

DAVID

Yes, I believe I did.

JOAN

Why do you sleep in purgatory?

DAVID

This is just like another life. You have to maintain health if you want your spirit to live, or so I was told.

JOAN

Quite interesting.

DAVID

So how did you get here?

JOAN

(pause)

Actually, I have not put that quite together yet.

DAVID

Well, think what were you doing last?

JOAN

(pause)

I was...driving. I don't remember arriving at my destination.

DAVID

So I am assuming a car crash.

JOAN

Yeah, that would explain the bump on my head. But why the hell would I have a bump on my head?

DAVID

I couldn't really answer that, but I'll guess.

JOAN

Go ahead.

DAVID

My guess is its carried on only for purgatory since your not officially dead. When you go to Heaven, you return to the form you know yourself as.

JOAN

Interesting. (pause) Are you religious?

DAVID

I wasn't too religious before I got here. Now, when I get out I will become a stronger Catholic.

JOAN

I guess I should to, now that I know this is the "real deal." (pause) How did you get here?

DAVID

I don't want to talk about it.

JOAN

Fine with me, I respect that. (pause) So is this what we do all day? Watch Warren Beatty movies?

DAVID

No, there are other movies and activities.

JOAN

Good. I can't stand Warren Beatty.

DAVID

How can you not stand Warren Beatty?

JOAN

I could handle him before that dumb movie "Bulworth."

DAVID

It wasn't that bad.

JOAN

Yeah it was.

DAVID

Dick Tracy, you gotta like Dick Tracy.

JOAN

That was a weird movie.

DAVID

Oh come on! It's comic book movie.

JOAN

A very strange one indeed. I mean Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman were deformed along with all the other characters.

DAVID

It's a very creative movie that you obviously do not get.

JOAN

What ever, discussion over.

(Bell rings)DAVID

Lunch is ready.

JOAN

Good 'cause I am starving.

SCENE #4

THEME #2

LUNCH AREA. TABLE.

JOAN and DAVID sit down next to each other, but before others at the table. The area is quiet for a few minutes. In the background there is a woman who eats by herself.

MAN

(directed at Joan)

So you are the newcomer. What is your name?

JOAN

Joan.

MAN

How did you get here Joan if you don't mind me asking.

JOAN

I am assume that I was in a car crash.

MAN

Ah yes. We all must assume. Some of us don't know how we got here.

JOAN

What do you go by?

MAN

Nick.

JOAN

Nice to meet you Nick.

NICK

And you as well.

JOAN looks outside. She sees woods beyond a short area of snow.

JOAN

Where does the woods go?

Silence.

DAVID

What do you mean? Where they lead to?

JOAN

Yeah.

Silence.

WOMAN

Once, a man attempted to "exit" purgatory by heading for the woods. He never came back. The guardians of the hotel refuse to tell us where he went. All they said was it is between that man and God now.

NICK

Nicely told Agatha. (pause) She is our storyteller so to speak.

JOAN

I see. That was a very interesting little story, if it was long enough to be considered one.

DAVID

Yeah.

(silence)

JOAN

So, if you can't leave in that manner, how do you leave?

(silence)

AGATHA

Until, He comes for you.

(everyone refuses to make eye contact.)

JOAN

(looks at everyone)

Who would he be?

NICK looks at AGATHA-She looks back at him-then she looks at JOAN.

AGATHA

He who comes at midnight will...escort...you out of the hotel once you are ready to leave. But, I discourage you from dealing with him when you he has no business with you. He comes every night, and you must accept that. We have done so, and living here is not a problem.

JOAN
Well, who the hell is He?

DAVID

We assume that he is...death.

JOAN

(eyes widen)

I see.

DAVID

You won't even know that he came, you'll be sleeping.

JOAN

(nods)

Okay.

AGATHA

So, what shall we do for the remainder of the day?

NICK

I don't know.

AGATHA

Another movie?

JOAN

I'm out on that one. One movie is enough for me.

DAVID

There isn't really much else to do.

JOAN

I'll do something by myself in my room. Which room is mine? Does anyone know?

NICK

I do, but I don't want to miss the feature which will be...?

AGATHA

I'll get The Shining.

NICK

My favorite scary movie, and I would not like to miss it.

DAVID

I'll show you. What room is it in Nick?

NICK

Its the one at the end of the hall.

DAVID

Gotcha. Come one Joan.

JOAN follows.

They get to the room.

DAVID

Here you are.

JOAN

Thank you for showing me.

DAVID

You know there is a pool and a Jacuzzi. Do you want to join me in that?

JOAN

I don't have a bathing suit.

DAVID

They provide them here.

JOAN

Okay, I will do so.

DAVID

In an hour?

JOAN

That would be great.

She closes the door and looks in her room. There are two beds. She walks around room. She looks outside at the woods. All she can see are woods all the way to the horizon.

SCENE #5

FRONT DESK.

THEME #2

We see JOAN walk up to the front desk and the man in white smiling at her.

JOAN

I need a bathing suit so I can use the pool.

CLERK

Why certainly. (He grabs a suit from under the desk.) Here you go ma- Miss Gutter.

JOAN

(pauses)

Look, I apologize for what I said earlier. You can go ahead and call me ma'am. i just was in a state of shock.

CLERK

I bet. I accept your apology and regret having to break the news about your business here.

JOAN

Its okay. No worries.

CLERK

Well, do enjoy your time in the water.

JOAN

I will.

She goes to the area in her bathing suit and DAVID is waiting.

JOAN

(getting into Jacuzzi)

Did I keep you waiting?

DAVID

No, not at all. I just got in.

JOAN

That's good. So, how did you end up in this place?

DAVID

(pause)

Well, I don't remember anything that would have happened to cause my coma. I was over here in California to visit my kids and my ex. Last thing I remember was spending time with my kids in my ex's house.

JOAN

So you are still wondering what happened?

DAVID

I wonder sometimes, but I don't think about it much.

JOAN
Oh.

DAVID

Are you married?

JOAN

No, heavens no.

DAVID

You make it sound like it's a bad thing.

JOAN

It's not a bad thing at all. It's just...the way my life is going, it does not look like I'll ever get married.

DAVID

Why is that?

JOAN

I...have a full time job. I really have no time to get into a relationship.

DAVID

So when was your last relationship?

JOAN

It would be four years ago, when I just got out college.

DAVID

What are you a doctor or something?

JOAN

Yes, that explains why I just got out a few years ago.

DAVID

And the way you doubt the existence of this place.

JOAN

Well, it was a normal reaction. Who is going to believe right off the bat that something surreal is occurring to them.

DAVID

Well, its your questions. You are always questioning it all.

JOAN

Not anymore. I'm stuck here in purgatory which happens to be a hotel in a void filled with forest.

DAVID

Now, getting out of here is the next step after acceptance.

JOAN

I don't really want to leave.

DAVID

Why?

JOAN

Same reason you said earlier, no responsibilities. I live a life of work and a vacation is what I need.

DAVID

If you are doctor, you must make a good deal of money. Why are you working so much?

JOAN

They call me in sometimes, and I can't say no. I have to start paying off all my loans that I took to get into college. I have no parents so, I have to earn my own money for everything. I am stuck in a hole for a while.

DAVID

I wish I had dedication to become a doctor. I am smart, but I am not willing to do the job.

JOAN

So what are you?

DAVID

I am a car salesman.

JOAN

That's an interesting job choice.

DAVID

It's not too fun bugging the shit out of people, but it gets the bills paid.

(Bells ring)

DAVID

See you tomorrow, it's bed time.

JOAN

What?

DAVID

Yeah, it's the rules or else you go to the punishment room.

JOAN

It's kindergarten all over again.

DAVID

No kiddin.

The two got out of the spa. They dried themselves with the towels. JOAN would sneak a glance. She finished up.

JOAN

See you tomorrow.

DAVID

See ya later.

JOAN walked away with a smirk on her face. We see her walking down a corridor. She goes into her room and goes to bed. The CAMERA goes to the clock. The camera fades out.

SCENE #6

DREAM.

THEME #2

We see a blurred image of a face. NOTE: Everything in the dream is blurred to some extent. It is grinning. It begins to laugh but we can't hear the laugh. We see a car. She sees herself driving. She looks to the passenger seat and the door is open. We see a dead deer with flies around it. The buzzing gets louder and louder. The camera zooms into the deer's eye. Then subliminally, we see a cloaked figure-THINK the demon from The Exorcist. Its stares uneasily from the end of a hall. We see her in the passenger seat. She's looking at herself from there. Her body is up against the steering wheel. Blood drips from her forehead. The camera zooms into her eye. Then her eyelid blinks. We see a flash of the figure again. The eye blinks again. Its gets up and grins at her evilly. We see her laughing, but all we hear is breathing. We begin to hear a deep evil laugh. Then we begin to hear a faint scream. The scream gets louder and louder. And the camera zooms into her evil face. She wakes up sweating. She wipes sweat off her head. She looks to the clock. Its says 12:05. She goes back to bed.

SCENE #7

ROOM. BED.

THEME #2

We see the clock go to 6:59 in the morning. The camera goes to her. Her eyes are closed. The clock turns to 7:00. The radio turns on. The song playing is "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen." She slowly gets up. She opens the door and walks down to the breakfast table. The table is empty. She walks to the front with the clerk. He of course is smiling with a big grin.

CLERK

How may I help you ma'am.

JOAN

What time is breakfast served?

CLERK

It is served at eight o'clock ma'am.

JOAN

Thanks.

CLERK

Is there anything else I can help you with ma'am?

JOAN

No thank you.

CLERK

Have a wonderful day!

JOAN

(mumbling)

Yeah you too.

She walks to the TV/Lounge area where a women sits by her lonesome. JOAN walks to the couch to sit down. The woman is staring at the floor.

JOAN

Why are you sad?

WOMAN

(looks up)

I am not sad. I am just not very social.

JOAN

Oh. You don't look very well.

WOMAN

I know. The medical wing people say I may not survive when its my time.

JOAN

Don't let that get you down.

WOMAN

I am afraid when it will come for me.

JOAN

(pauses)

I know, I am a little scared of...it. But, we shouldn't its our way out either home or beyond.

WOMAN

I know I shouldn't be afraid of it, but...

JOAN

I know, but just think that there is a possibility that you might survive. (pause) Is there someone you are looking forward to seeing if you go back?

WOMAN

My children, it feels so long since I have seen them. Do you have any children of your own.

JOAN

No, I don't. I am glad you have someone to look forward to when you return to "home."- she quotes with her fingers.

WOMAN

What's your name?

JOAN

I am Joan.

WOMAN

I am Ellen.

JOAN

Nice to meet you Ellen.

ELLEN

Thank you for talking to me. I have felt very lonely after a while of isolation. I rarely talk to the people here.

JOAN

You should talk to them. They are good people.

ELLEN

Well, I just feel they are too energetic for me.

JOAN

I'll introduce you to them.

ELLEN

Oh no you don't have to do that.

JOAN

Its okay I'll do it. You don't know how long you are going to be here, so try and make the best of it.

ELLEN

You are a really kind person. What do you do for a living?

JOAN

I am a doctor.

ELLEN

I can really tell. You are friendly with people.

JOAN

Not really. These are some weird days for me. I am usually not this social. I figure if I am going to be here for a while I mind as well have fun here.

ELLEN

I never thought of it that way.

JOAN

Well think of it this way and the time here in limbo won't be so bad.

ELLEN

Are religious?

JOAN

I have to be after this, you know what I mean. I used to be a real good catholic, until well... my parents died when I was twelve.

ELLEN

How awful.

JOAN

I can talk about it now. Everything I have earned, college intuition, everything was earned by me and me alone.

ELLEN

You should be very proud of yourself.

JOAN

I am, but it gets real tiring. I have no social life. I am glad I am here so I can relax.

ELLEN

There is going to be a party here around noon for Nick's birthday.

JOAN

Yeah?

ELLEN

Yes, hasn't he told you?

JOAN
No, I must have missed it.

ELLEN

He announced it at the end of "The Shining."

JOAN

I wasn't watching it last night. I am not too big of a Kubrick fan.

ELLEN

I like "Dr. Strangelove."

JOAN

Oh, that won was pretty funny, in its corny way.

ELLEN

It's more of a tongue-in-cheek type comedy.

JOAN

Yeah, "You can't fight in the war room!"

ELLEN

Yes, that was hilarious. Also plans in envelope "F." It was all hilarious.

They stop talking. ELLEN looks at the clock.

ELLEN

They were going to surprise Nick at his room. Want to go to his room so we can surprise him?

JOAN

Sure, let's go have fun.

SCENE #7

NICK'S FRONT DOOR.

THEME #2

We see NICK'S front door. Everyone is standing at his door. JOAN ad ELLEN arrive. JOAN sees DAVID.

JOAN

So when are we going to break in?

DAVID

(turns around)

As soon as Agatha comes with the party hats.

AGATHA

(coming from a room)

I made some last night. Everyone take one.

Everyone does so. DAVID counts off 1,2,3 silently. They then barge in and begin making noises with noise makers. They lift him up.

NICK

Where are you guys taking me?

They put a blind fold on him. FADE to BLACK. Then in the darkness the "Time Warp" starts from the background. NICK was sitting and he immediately gets up. Everyone is dancing on the floor. He runs out to prepare to do the time warp. Whenever the man gives directions we see them through someone's lips. JOAN does Riff Raff's wife. DAVID does Riff Raff. AGATHA is Columbia. Afterwards, everyone goes to grab a drink.

JOAN

(grabs a drink)

Never knew so many Rocky Horror fans can be found in one place.

AGATHA

Nick had everyone watch last week. Everyone knows its his favorite musical.

DAVID

I have seen it before. Infact I have seen it at a midnight showing with all the role-playing.

JOAN

Oh really? I have never gone to one. I have always wanted to go to one.

NICK

I have been to as many as I can. Each time I am dressed as Frankenfurter.

DAVID

I went as Brad.

AGATHA

I am not that crazy to go to one of those. I like the songs and all but that movie is kinky as hell. The movie would be better without all the weird shit.

ELLEN

But, then the movie would not be as good as it is without it. That's why its famous. It's famous for being blunt and..."kinky."

JOAN

(smiles at ELLEN)

Yeah. The movie would not have had the cult following. it would be like any other old musical like fuckin "Annie" or "Sound of Music."

AGATHA

The movie was just too, silly after Frankenfurter showed up.

DAVID

Well if you think its too silly, then you don't understand what the impact it made. It was a time of prudes, and then comes something that is blunt and outrageous like a John Waters flick.

AGATHA

I can't stand him either. Pink Flamingos was too immature. Only a teenager would find that crap funny.

DAVID

I somewhat agree.

JOAN

You have to like Hairspray though.

ELLEN

Yeah I love that one, but I disliked Cry-Baby.

NICK

I loved all of them. I can't believe you guys hate them.

DAVID

It's 'cause your huge flamer.

JOAN&DAVID

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

JOAN

(points)

SEINFELD!

DAVID

I know that's what I was thinking.

NICK

I am not a flamer!

AGATHA

Then what do you call yourself?

NICK

I call myself Nick. Let's not get into our sexual interactions.

ELLEN

Why not afraid we are going to judge you?

JOAN

Yeah, it's not we'll ever see each other after all this.

NICK

Alright, but I am not a flamer. I just happen to be interested into weird movies.

AGATHA

Is that all your interested in?

NICK

Yes that's all.

JOAN

I don't think so because I swear you were checking out David's ass.

DAVID

(eyebrows go up)

I am flattered, but I don't swing that way.

NICK

I have not been looking at his ass!

AGATHA

That's biggest bullshit I have heard this week.

JOAN

He's been fooling around with guy at the front desk.

They all start laughing, except NICK.

AGATHA

(puts hand on his shoulder)

Oh come on! How can you say that was not funny?

NICK

I am not saying it's not funny.

ELLEN

Well your not laughing.

AGATHA
Come one we're laughing with you not at you.

NICK

I have to be laughing in order to laugh with me.

AGATHA

True, but come one we're having a little fun.

SAFETY dance starts.

JOAN

I love this song.

ELLEN

Me too!

AGATHA

Let's go! I never knew we all had so much in common!

They dance to the safety dance.

SCENE #8

PARTY AREA.

THEME #2

We see JOAN walk up to the drinks again. She gulps down a drink. She sits down. DAVID walks up behind her.

DAVID

I haven't danced to those songs in forever.

JOAN

I don't think anyone has. Who'd ever thought that purgatory would be this much fun?

DAVID

(looks at her strangely)

No one.

AGATHA

(arriving with Nick under her arm)

Having fun birthday boy?

NICK

Boy? Well, I am having fun.

AGATHA

That's all I wanted to know.

JOAN

Jesus, what time is it?

AGATHA

I don't think he'll be able to tell you the time at this moment.

JOAN

Ha ha.-sarcastically

DAVID
It's 3.

AGATHA

Why would you wan to know? Time is not a matter here. Here it is insignificant.

NICK

This is what makes this place so damn wonderful.

JOAN

You know you guys are right fuck the time. It's just that i am so used to asking because I always feel I need to be somewhere.

ELLEN

A naturally busy person hey?

JOAN

Yup, not today. Not as long as I am here.

KISS comes on. "Rock and Roll All Night"

JOAN

This is my song! Let's go booze hounds! Out to the fucking dance floor!

The camera fades to the end of the party. Everyone is now quiet and cleaning up.

NICK

I had a dream that I was having a party, but it was a boring dream.

AGATHA

What a fucking nightmare.

DAVID

Hey, don't be stealing Marisa Tomei's lines.

AGATHA

(laughs)

If it makes you feel better, I had a nightmare too. I was being chased by Freddy fucking Krueger.

JOAN

I had a nightmare. It was me at a crashed car. It was me in the car and I watching myself. I kept seeing this figure. It was cloaked. I woke up and it ended.

The others pause.

AGATHA

What time did you wake up?

JOAN

I woke up at 12:05. Why?

ELLEN

Because that is what time he comes.

JOAN

Oh.

NICK

Let's get off the subject.

AGATHA

I am gonna hit the hay as soon as we're done.

DAVID

Yeah, no kidding. I am exhausted.

JOAN

All that dancing gets you tired real fast. I haven't done it in such a long time.

AGATHA

Last time I danced was at my wedding.

NICK

You're married?

AGATHA

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

NICK

Nothing.

AGATHA

Well, I am divorced but I did not want to bring that up.

NICK

Sorry.

We see JOAN throw some trash away. She wipes her hands.

JOAN

Is there anything else for me to do?

AGATHA

(looks around)

No doesn't look like it.

JOAN

Any of you need help?

ALL

No. We got it.

JOAN

Okay I am going to "hit the hay." Good night see you in the morning.

NICK

Bye.

DAVID

See ya.

SCENE #9

HALLWAY. JOAN'S ROOM.

THEME #2

We see JOAN coming from around a corner and walks into her room. She looks at a clock in her room. Its 10:00. She jumps into bed. She tries to sleep by putting the covers over her head. We see a flash of a cloaked figure. As she is looking at above view. She looks at the clock. 10:01. She puts the covers over her again. The camera goes over to the clock. The clock flash-forwards to 11:55. It then moves back to her looking at the clock. She then looks back to above view. Her eyes are wide open. She looks back and it's 11:57. Her heart pumping can be heard. We get a zoom in of her face. Small drops of sweat begin to build up at her forehead. She looks back at the clock and it says 11:58. She wipes the sweat off her forehead. She then gets up and the small lamp in the corner turns off. She looks at the clock, 11:59. She opens up the curtains and the moonlight comes in. We see her face. It's a face of anxiety. She stares at the clock. The camera changes from her face to the clock. Her breathing gets going faster. Her heart begins pounding a lot faster and louder. Then the camera slowly zooms in at the clock and it turns 12:00. The pounding stops and her breathing for a second stops as well. She crawls to the door. She grabs the handle slowly. The camera is close up at the handle. She turns it slowly. She then opens the door slowly. She pokes her head slowly out the door corner. A dark figure stands at the end of the hallway standing there. The moonlight allows it to be visible. She jumps back. We see her face terrified. The camera pulls back and we hear it walking down the hall. It walks past her. Its feet stops for a second and it opens the door across from her. A girl gets and walks with him. She screamed at first.

WOMAN

Am I going home?

All that can be heard is breathing. There is no response.

WOMAN

I don't want to die. I don't want to die!

She lots her feet and drops to the floor. The thing begins to drag her.

WOMAN

I don't want to die!

The thing grunts and drags her down to the corner. JOAN watches in fright. The creature then leaves. JOAN catches her breath. She goes back to bed to go sleep. The camera goes and rests at the clock. 12:05.

SCENE #10

ROOM. BED.

THEME #2

We see the clock. Its shows the clock at 6:59. The camera moves to her bed. We see that her eyes are still wide open. She has pillows under her eyes. The radio turns on. We hear "Nobody Knows..." starts playing. She gets up. She opens the door and walks out of the hall. She walks down to the bottom floor. The others are having coffee.

AGATHA

Good morning!

JOAN

Good morning my ass.

NICK

PMS.

JOAN

No not PMS you shit head.

DAVID

What's wrong? It looks like you got no sleep.

JOAN

That's due to the fact that I did not.

AGATHA

Yeah, you don't look too good.

JOAN

I don' feel too good either.

NICK

Why? Why couldn't you get sleep?

JOAN

Because I saw It!

AGATHA

Oh. That must have been real creepy.

JOAN

Creepy? Creepy? That's all you have to say about that?

AGATHA

What else am I supposed to say about it.

JOAN

I don't know, but I am just amazed about the biggest fucking understatement of the century.

DAVID

You're afraid of it.

JOAN

Damn straight.

AGATHA

Sure he gives off a disturbing presence, but he is your way out of here.

JOAN

There is something sinister about his fucking presence.

DAVID

Look, you just have to deal with it.

JOAN

What the hell are you talking about? Waiting here to die?

AGATHA

Who says you are going to die?

JOAN
You don't believe anyone can see that thing as a sign of good hope. Do you?

AGATHA

Do you know something? If you do please tell us.

JOAN

No I don't know anything. I just have a bad feeling.

AGATHA

Just calm down, take deep breaths we all went through that too. You must accept that in order to get out you have to go by his leave.

JOAN

Besides the fact that one day "Death" will confront me, why the hell would I want leave?

AGATHA

Family, children, parents?

JOAN

All the elements that I lack in my life.- She walks away.

AGATHA

Well you can believe whatever you want about it, but don't ruin our days here by revolting like some damn liberal activist.

SCENE #11

HALL. ELLEN'S ROOM.

THEME #2

We see JOAN knocking on her door.

JOAN

Ellen, are you in there?

She knocks, but no answer.

JOAN

Ellen are you okay?

A faint voice can be heard from within. The walls muffle the sound.

JOAN

Ellen? I can't hear you?

ELLEN

(muffled and with a sick voice)

It's open.

JOAN

(opens the door and looks around she walks to the bathroom)

Oh my God are you okay?

ELLEN

(head in toilet)

Yes. I have just been throwing up.

JOAN

A hangover from last night?

ELLEN

I don't see how that's possible since I do not drink.

JOAN

Well do you think it's something you ate last night?

ELLEN

I don't know. I just been throwing up.

JOAN

I think we should get you to the medical wing.

ELLEN

Okay but first I have to get cleaned up.

JOAN

Yeah that would be best.

JOAN grabs a towel and start cleaning around the bowl.

ELLEN

Joan?

JOAN

(cleaning around the bowl)

Yes?

ELLEN

I don't feel good.

JOAN

I can see that.

ELLEN

No, I mean scared.

JOAN

Why?

ELLEN

I had a horrible dream.

JOAN

What happened in it?

ELLEN

I don't want to talk about it.

JOAN

Well it was just a dream.

ELLEN

Look in the toilet.

JOAN looks and there is blood in the toilet.

JOAN

Oh my God. Fuck cleaning this. We have to get you to a doctor fast.

SCENE #12

FRONT DESK.

THEME #2

We see JOAN helping ELLEN to the front desk. Behind the desk stands the CLERK.

CLERK

(grinning)

How may I be of service to you?

JOAN

She needs a doctor.

CLERK

What seems to be the problem?

ELLEN

I am vomiting blood.

CLERK

Oh dear, you do need medical assistance.

JOAN

No shit.

CLERK

I'll get hold of him as quickly as possible.

CLERK grabs a telephone and dials the number for the medical wing.

JOAN

There are telephones in purgatory?

CLERK

How other way are we to communicate? Telepathy?

JOAN

No, it was just strange. It's like seeing a car in a "Star Wars" movie.

CLERK

I am so sorry for being rude in my previous statement.

JOAN

I am sorry for slowing you down in calling that doctor.

CLERK

It really is no problem. (phone picks up on other line-we can't hear it.) Where are you? (pause) Well, get to the medical wing. One of our guests is vomiting blood. (pause) Yes, blood. (pause) Okay, have a good day sir.

JOAN

What did he say?

CLERK

(with a grin)

He said to get to the medical wing immediately. (turns to a frown and looks at ELLEN) I hope you do get better. (then to normal) Have a good day the both of you.

The camera follows them down a corridor, all the way to the medical front desk, where an identical CLERK awaits.

JOAN

(looking odd)

Weren't you just at the front desk?

CLERK #2

(grinning-NOTE: Same actor plays CLERK #1&2)

That is my brother. How may I be of service to you ladies in the medical wing? (looks at ELLEN and frowns) You don't look to well. I will call Doctor Sapirstein.

The DOCTOR walks in as he CLERK #2 picked up the phone. CLERK looks at him.

CLERK #2

Oh, Doctor Sapirstein, I was about to call for your assistance. This guest is not feeling very well.

DOCTOR

I know, your brother called.

CLERK #2

Oh, I see.

DOCTOR

(buttoning his coat)

Well, follow me ladies.

He walks into a check-up room.

DOCTOR

So when did you star puking blood?

ELLEN

I started about an hour ago. I wook up and felt very sick.

DOCTOR

(grabs a thermometer, and gives it to ELLEN-she puts it in)

Hmmm. That does not sound good. (looks at JOAN) Could you wait outside. I am going to do a few tests. It will only be a few moments. Unless you mind of course.

JOAN

No, not at all. I'll wait out there.

JOAN walks out and closes the door. She stands beside the closed door. JOAN gives a yawn and doses off into a dream. DREAM: We see her in the passenger seat of the car. She sees herself as a dead corpse. The corpse gets up and grins evilly.

CORPSE

(deep voice-dubbed)

We are waiting for you. (laugh)

She crouches into the passenger door. She turns her head to the windshield where blood is spread across the windshield. She looks out the window and we see the CU of the deer eye and JOAN'S head popping out of the passenger window in the background.

CORPSE

Joan. Joan. JOAN!

JOAN looks.

CORPSE

Look at me when I am talking to you, you miserable bitch!

JOAN does not speak. She crouches. CORPSE laughs.

CORPSE

She'll be with us tonight. (laughs)

We see a flash of the cloaked figure. JOAN looks terrified at the CORPSE. Then a tear of blood runs down JOAN'S face.

CORPSE

And you will be soon.

JOAN nods her head.

CORPSE

Yes you will Joan. (laughs)

We see her breath as JOAN breathes, but not the CORPSE.

JOAN
Ellen. Ellen!

She herself up at wing. ELLEN and DOCTOR are looking down at her when she wakes up.

ELLEN

I am all finished up Joan.

DOCTOR

I think you need sleep.

JOAN
I know I do. (gets up)

DOCTOR

How much sleep did you get last night?

JOAN

Not much.

DOCTOR

I highly recommend you get some.

JOAN

I have to take care of Ellen.

DOCTOR

She does not need a lot of attention.

JOAN

Are you sure? She was pucking blood!

ELLEN

Well, he found out that I was bleeding from a cut inside my throat. It will close up and disappear soon.

JOAN

What did you get the cut from?

ELLEN

I don't know. I don't realy remember.

DOCTOR

See you ladies later.

ELLEN

Bye Doctor Saperstein.

They begin walking away to ELLEN'S room.

SCENE #13

ELLEN'S ROOM.

THEME #2

We see ELLEN'S door open and the two walk in.

ELLEN

Could you stay with me tonight?

JOAN

Sure, no problem.

ELLEN

Thank you.

JOAN

Oh sure, no problem.

ELLEN

I feel cold.

JOAN

I'll put you in a blanket.

JOAN grabs one and wraps ELLEN in it.

ELLEN

Thank you. (she closes her eyes when JOAN turns around)

JOAN goes to the window and she looks at the endless woods.

JOAN

It is weird that those woods go on endless. I wish life was like that.

She gets no answer and realizes that ELLEN has fallen asleep. JOAN then turns her head. After a few minutes there is a knock at the door. JOAN goes to get it. She opens the door and DAVID stands in the hallway.

JOAN

Oh hey.

DAVID

Where have you been?

JOAN

Ellen got sick. We thought she was throwing up blood, but it turns out she got a cut from something.

DAVID

Oh, so you've been here taking care of her.

JOAN

Yeah, (pause) come in, I'm sure she won't mind.

DAVID walks in. The two sit down somewhere.

SCENE #13 CONT'D.

JOAN

David, there is something wrong and eerie in this damn place.

DAVID

(pauses)

You know you look like you need sleep.

JOAN

Don't patronize me. (pause-they stare at each other)

DAVID

Look it's all in your damn head. You do look like you need sleep.

JOAN

I know I need to sleep, but first there is something odd in this fucking place. I know it. My instincts tell me so.

DAVID

Just go to sleep and have a lovely dream and it will all go away.

JOAN

My dreams are my instincts.

DAVID

Listen to yourself. You are basing reality on dreams, figments of your fucking imagination. Now get some damn sleep!

JOAN
Fuck sleeping! Right now I need to set everything straight.

DAVID

Fine whatever. Don't listen to me. Call me when you are not going psycho.

JOAN

I will.

DAVID gets up and walks to the door.

DAVID

See you later.- (Shuts the door.)

JOAN puts her hands in her face and lets out a deep breath. She rubs her arms because she is cold. She lies on her side and begins to doze off.

SCENE # 14

DREAM.

THEME #2

We see the car once again. JOAN is sitting there looking straight towards the empty road. The CORPSE sits in the driver seat. The CORPSE this time is being quiet.

JOAN

Hey. (She pushes the CORPSE on the shoulder) Hey. (does it again). Hey!

CORPSE-dubbed

(voice is of a little kid)

What do you want?

JOAN

I want answers.

CORPSE

How can I give you answers? I don't know anything.

JOAN

Why am I in the car?

CORPSE

I don't know.

JOAN

I know you do, now tell me!

CORPSE

I honestly do not know.

JOAN

I am tired of these games.

CORPSE

Don't yell at me!

JOAN

Okay I won't yell at you.

CORPSE

I don't have the answer.

JOAN

Okay whatever. (pause)

CORPSE

(points)

But maybe he does!

The dark cloaked figure stands in front of the car. JOAN begins to scream and ducks.

CORPSE

(laughs)

It's okay we are all going to be home soon. (laughs-her voice changes slowly to the deep voice).

SCENE #15

ELLEN'S ROOM.

We JOAN open her eyes. She gets and looks at the clock. 12:01. The door begins to open. JOAN ducks down. She breaks off a leg of a table. She hers the figure walk in slowly. ELLEN lies on the couch sound asleep. The figure grabs her and begins to drag ELLEN across the floor. ELLEN wakes up in confusion. JOAN charges at the figure.

JOAN

Put her down!

She swings the leg and hits the creature in the back. It makes a deep grunt.

JOAN

Leave her here!

DAVID and the others begin to get out of their rooms. They grab her to keep her away from the figure.

JOAN

No! She's going to die.

AGATHA

You do not know that!

JOAN

But I do!

DAVID and AGATHA pin JOAN to the ground.

AGATHA

Calm down before the hotel officials come and get you.

DAVID

(hears footsteps and turns his head)

Too late.

Some guards clad in white come up to JOAN and grab her. DAVID and AGATHA let go. JOAN struggles to break free of them.

JOAN

Let go of me you fucking bastards!

DOCTOR SAPERSTEIN walks through the hall. He has some pills in his mouth.

SAPERSTEIN

Open up your mouth and take this!

JOAN

I will not take it if I don't know what it is for.

SAPERSTEIN

It's sleeping pills.

JOAN
I just got some fucking sleep!

SAPERSTEIN

Open up!

JOAN refuses. She keeps her mouth closed. He clamps his fingers on her nose. She opens up for breath and he shoves them in and closes her mouth. She swallows them. She immediately falls into slumber.

SCENE #16

DREAM

THEME #2

She is no longer in the car. She is on an empty road. She wonders around for a little bit.

JOAN

Where the hell am I? (no answer) Tell me where the hell am I?

VOICE

(girl voice)

You are with us.

JOAN

Where are we?

Many corpses on the road rise up from the snow. There is blood dripping from some of them.

VOICE

(turns into ELLEN'S voice)

You will be coming home soon.

SAPERSTEIN

Wake up Joan.

JOAN wakes up in a room. She is sitting in a chair. DR. SAPERSTEIN sits before her in his chair. Two security guards stand at the door.

SAPERSTEIN

Had a nice sleep?

JOAN

Yes, now no one can tell me I need it anymore.

SAPERSTEIN

So, would you like to explain why you did what you did to...the reaper?

JOAN
You mean to rationalize my actions?

SAPERSTEIN

Yes please.

JOAN

I believe that I needed sleep. I just got here and I am trying to adjust. Lots of feelings were building up inside me. I think I was just...pushed over the edge. (pause)

SAPERSTEIN

(smiles)

I believe you are humoring us Joan. You are telling us what we want to hear, so that you can be set free. If you do not tell me what is wrong, I will be forced to use some...desperate measures.

JOAN

I don't know what to tell you then doctor. I stand by what I said. If you don't believe what I say then, what's the use of this meeting we are having?

SAPERSTEIN

(scowls)

Well, I'll out this time Ms. Gutter. If I do find anymore of your outrageous behavior, it will be punished in some way.

JOAN

I agree. I am so sorry for causing you and your men trouble. I really am sorry that you had to handle my "outrageous" behavior.

SAPERSTEIN

Apology accepted Ms. Gutter. You may leave now.

JOAN

(gets up)

Have yourselves a nice day.

SAPERSTEIN

Control yourself now or you will be seeing me and them again.

JOAN

You got it, sir.

JOAN walks away into a hallway. She walks to the end of the hall and turns the corner.

SCENE #17

JOAN'S ROOM. HALLWAY.

THEME #3

We see JOAN walk to her room. DAVID is standing at the other end of the hall. He walks to her and stops her from walking in. She struggles to get out.

JOAN

What are you doing.

DAVID

Don't go in there.

JOAN

Why not?

DAVID

They bugged your room. Or at least me and Agatha believe that.

JOAN

Okay then where should I go?

DAVID

My room. That's where Agatha is right now. She is suspecting something as well as you are.

JOAN

Alright let's go.

DAVID walks down the hall with her behind him. He opens the door to his room once they arrive. JOAN walks in and DAVID locks the door behind him. JOAN takes a seat on the couch. DAVID grabs a seat as well. AGATHA looks up at JOAN.

AGATHA

I think you know something they don't want anyone to know.

JOAN

I know so. There is something they are hiding. I don't what it is. But we need to figure it out.

DAVID
Well how are we going to find out what they don't want us to know?

AGATHA

Well let's back track. What were you saying that pissed them off?

JOAN
I said that she was going to die.

AGATHA

Well, we don't know that since she is now out of purgatory.

They all sit and look at each other in silence. JOAN begins to stare off into space. She looks out the window. She begins to stare at the woods. She stares for a bit and looks away and begins to blink. She looks down at the floor than at the others in enlightenment.

JOAN

The woods. We must go into the woods. What the hell is out there?

AGATHA

It is an endless void.

DAVID
Do we know that for sure.

The three sit in a pause.

JOAN

(smirks)

Now we are getting somewhere.

AGATHA
So you are suggesting we somehow sneak out of the hotel and venture into the woods?

JOAN

I have feeling that out there lies answers to questions we hold.

DAVID

I am in.

AGATHA

It is clear that we are all in. But, how are we going to succeed in getting out of the hotel?

JOAN

We need something to distract them from us.

DAVID
What type of diversion?

JOAN

We could manipulate a fight.

AGATHA

A fight would definitely distract the guards, but what the busboy at the front?

They all pause.

DAVID

There are other ways out of the hotel other than the front door.

JOAN

Such as?

DAVID

A window. A back door.

AGATHA

A window would be too high for any of our windows.

JOAN

A back door would probably set off an alarm.

DAVID

Well, then what then?

AGATHA

I c√łuld stay behind and somehow distract the busboy.

JOAN

What are you going to do to him, he's interested in what you have to give.

AGATHA

I'll complain about something.

DAVID

Sounds good, but who is going to fight?

JOAN
Actually manipulating a fight would only cause trouble. If we have the clerk at the front distracted were homeward bound so to speak.

AGATHA

Okay, so you two will have to describe anything you find out. You have to come back, if you are able to.

DAVID

That brings up another question. How are we going to get back in?

JOAN
We could have a time limit.

DAVID

How's that going to work?

AGATHA

I could complain for fifteen minutes about some weird noise in my bathroom.

JOAN

Fifteen minutes is well enough amount of time, but how are we going to keep track of time?

DAVID

I have a watch.

JOAN

Alright then. When shall we do this?

AGATHA

We'll prepare for one hour. At 12:00 noon I'll walk to the front desk, complain, and you two sneak your way out and in within fifteen minutes or until something comes up. Agreed?

JOAN

Yeah.

DAVID

Yep.

AGATHA
Alright, let's get to it.

SCENE #18

LOBBY. ENTRANCE.

THEME #3

We see AGATHA walking up to the CLERK at the front desk. He presents himself with his usual smile.

AGATHA

There is a weird nosie in my bathroom, could I get it fixed?

CLERK

Well, where was this noise coming from?

AGATHA

It came from the shower. As I was turning it on, a weird noise and the water would not heat up.

DAVID and JOAN crawl on the floor in front of the desk, right near the door.

CLERK

(confused face)

Hmmm. That's quite odd.

AGATHA

Yes it is.

CLERK

Well, I could check out ma'am. I know a thing or two about plumbing.

AGATHA

(doesn't know what to say)

That would be...dandy.

CLERK

Okay then show me the way to your room.

AGATHA

(pulls his arm and body away from looking at DAVID and JOAN on floor)

I certainly will.

JOAN and DAVID run out of the hotel. The outside is very cold. The two run across the field between the hotel and the forest. They run their hardest and reach the beginning of the forest. The two stop and stand at the edge of the woods. They both look at each other. Then they slowly step in slowly and enter the forest. They stop for a breather. The two stop for a moment. DAVID looks at his watch.

DAVID

We have like 13 minutes.

JOAN

The clerk going upstairs bought us a few more minutes.

DAVID

You have a point.

JOAN

Well, let's go we have no time to loose.

The two begin to walk into the woods. the sounds heard ar etheir footsteps. Noises would be made from distance. A low machinary type sound can be heard in the distance. Some of the tree trunks have blood stains on them. The wind blows to make a "breath-like" sound. A broken twig is heard after a few minutes of walking. They turn their attention to the twig. They see a cloaked figure with a non-human face. Expression less, a mask, It stares for second- unnerving- only seen for a few seconds- tease audience (think alien from Signs) DAVID chases after it.

JOAN

David!

DAVID goes off and chases it. She starts running off to chase the two. She tries to follow David through a maze of trees. This chase goes for a few stops to catch breath. JOAN hears a machinary sound again. She heads for it. She follows to where it came from. She goes deep into the forest and sees a blue blur. She heads towards this familiar blur. She goes adn stands before it. It is her car. The door is opened and snow covers the car and some fot he inside. A lud honk of the horn is made (machincary sound). An animal of a sort-maybe rabbit-Is hopping in the car. JOAN has a shocked look on face. In the woods a cry is heard. It sounded like DAVID. She runs back into the forest. She finds DAVID, but he is lying on the ground for quite a bit until she hears some grunting. She finds DAVID, but he is lying on the ground. He is bleeding in the stomach.

JOAN

Where is he David?

DAVID looks at her and smiles. He then passes on she begins to hear panting and a cough from another person. She sees the cloaked figure on the floor a few feet from her. She walks behind him slowly. The panting and coughing stops. It is lying on its stomach. A hand is lying above his head holding a bloddy knife. She reaches down to grab it and the body turns around aims for her face, but she jumped back. The thing misses and falls down onto the floor and dies. There is now blodd on the white mask. She takes the knife from him and throws it away. She then begins to walk away. She stops and walks back to body. She looks at the mask. She takes it off and behind it is a man with his eyes wide open; his face was cut and blood was drooling out. Some voices and yellingis heard from afar. She jumps back and begins to run back to the hotel. She just runs on. The camera sets at the beginning of thw woods. We can see her running out of the woods adn for the front door of the hotel she enters and begins to walk calmly. Voices can be hear around the corner. Its the CLERK and AGATHA.

CLERK

Hello Joan. Oh my you look horrible. You also look cold and wet. Where have yo been?

JOAN

Um...(looks at AGATHA)...I was looking for you. My water is not heating in my shower.

CLERK

Oh you too? Well, everything seems to be working fine now.

JOAN

Thanks.

CLERK

Oh no problem at all.

AGATHA and JOAN begin to walk upstairs.

AGATHA

Where's David.

JOAN

He is dead.

AGATHA

(pauses and stops walking)

What?

JOAN

He's dead. We have to talk about this later in your room.

AGATHA

We will talk about it as we go.

JOAN

Fine, we saw something in the forest. t was a cloaked man and he killed David and was killed by David in the process.

They reach AGATHA'S door. She opens it and they enter. They sit down on her couch.

AGATHA

So he killed "death".

JOAN

No, this person had a mask on. The thing that comes to our hotel at midngith does not where a mask. The mask is as clear as day. I would have noticed it.

AGATHA

So it resembled him?

JOAN

In choice of clothing, yes.

AGATHA

Did you try to help David?

JOAN

I did, but i found him dead. We split up. And...I found something.

AGATHA

What?

JOAN

I found my car deep in the forest.

The two sit in silence.

AGATHA

Do you have any idea what that could mean?

JOAN

I believe it means the location of where I crashed my car was in that forest. Meaning, that outside that forest is Earth. It is reality. This also suggests that this is not purgatory, and most importantly, we are not in comas.

They are in silence once again and in shock.

AGATHA

Well then why the hell are we here?

JOAN

I dont now, but something strange is indeed happening. We need to find out the answers.

AGATHA

How are we gonna do that?

JOAN

Go back to the forest to find answers.

AGATHA

what do u plan to do.

JOAN

We should follow "death" into the forest to wherever he goes.

AGATHA

Sounds brilliant, bu we can't pull the same stunt again.

JOAN

I know, but i'll find a way.

CLERK

(over intercom)

All guests of the hotel, please come down for a meeting in the television room. Thank you.

SCENE #19

TV ROOM.

THEME #4

We see AGATHA and JOAN walk to the room and sit on couch beside NICK.

AGATHA

Nick.

NICK

(turns his head to them)

Yes?

AGATHA

What is this all about?

NICK

I don't know yet. That's what we've been talking about.

AGATHA

Any rumors or ideas.

NICK

None that are plausible.

AGATHA

Oh.

JOAN

Look here comes the Clerk.

CLERK

Please quiet down. Quiet down, thank you. I would like to talkt to you once again about leaving the hotel and entering the forest. One of the former guests, entered the forest today. HE is unofrutnately lost into the void of the forest. We know this due to his absense from the hotel. I would warn those of you who leave the hotel that you will be lost and gone forever. The front doors will be gaurded at all times. Thank you. That is all. You may go about your business.

AGATHA

They know we went into the forest now.

JOAN

no, they know David, did. That's all they know.

AGATHA

Better hope so.

JOAN

We better prepare for our..."trip".

AGATHA

I agree.

SCENE #20

AGATHA'S ROOM.

THEME #4

We see them walk into her toom. They sit down on the couch.

AGATHA

Okay, so how are we going to get out tonight?

JOAN

I don't know, think like a teenager.

AGATHA

Well the front door is not an option.

JOAN

I know that.

Silence.

JOAN

We could do it the old-fashioned style in old movies.

AGATHA

What?

JOAN

Tie our bedsheets together and jump out the window.

AGATHA

Works for me.

JOAN

Okay let's get to it.

We see them workin on their escape route by tying AGATHA'S bedspreads together.

AGATHA

You know if that thing killed David, how are we going to protect ourselves if we are going in there?

JOAN

The woods leads to the road I was on when I was driving that night/

AGATHA

What were you driving for?

JOAN

(takes a deep breath)

Well my husband-

AGATHA

David said you did not have a husband.

JOAN

I know, I told him that. I found David quite attractive. I told him a few lies, they were only about me not being married.

AGATHA

(laughs)

I see, go on.

JOAN

My husband and I got in a fight. He came home with some slut form the Pacific Bell company/ I was working late on a patient in the ER. I arrived at the house and he was fucking her on out couch. I grabbed my keys and bolted out the door. We had just gotten married a few months ago. I knew it was a mistake, but i thought i loved him.

AGATHA

(rubs her shoulder)

We all make those mistakes.

They continue working in silence. Camera goes to clock and it is 3-ish.

AGATHA and JOAN droper their rope and put on the ground.

AGATHA Well, we are ready for tonight.

JOAN

Yeah I think I need sleep though.

AGATHA

Me too.

JOAN

How's about we take a nap until it's time.

AGATHA

Sounds good, we'll be rested.

The two grab a blanket- AGATHA closes blinds.

JOAN

See you soon.

AGATHA

You too.

SCENE #21

DREAM. CAR.

THEME#4

We see the far from frontal view. JOAN turns her head to the corpse.

JOAN

I know almost everything now.

CORPSE

(deep dubbed voice)

But you don't know everything.

JOAN

I will soon.

CORPSE

Soo you will be home.

JOAN

What?

CORPSE

You will be home soon with all the other lost people.

There are dead people sitting in the back seat.

CORPSE #2

Please take me home.

CORPSE #3

Please take me home.

JOAN

I can't take you home.

CORPSE

Oh but we are all going home soon. (laughs)

SCENE #22

AGATHA's ROOM.

THEME #5

We see JOAN and AGATHA sleeping. The camera moves to the clock. 11:58. The clock foes to JOAN's face. Her eyelids open wide awake. Her eyes at the clock. It changes to 11:59. She gets up and goes to AGATHA. She begins to push her shoulder.

JOAN

Agatha wake up.

AGATHA

(she gets up)

It's time?

JOAN

Yeah.

AGATHA

Okay let's go.

The clock changes to 12:00 AGATHA gets up to stretch. She begins to walk to the bathroom.

JOAN

You can't go now.

AGATHA

I am just going to become fully awake...getting some water.

JOAN

Oh ok hurry up.

JOAN sits on the couch. AGATHA closes the door for bathroom. JOAN begins to hear a noise at the door knob. It is turning. HEr eyes widen up in surprise. She gets down and hides behind the couch. The door opens. THe cloaked figure walks in and turns its head towards the bathroom door. The water fossit can be heard from the main room. The water stops. AGATHA dries her hands and opens the door.

AGATHA

Okay I-

She stops, shocked. The figure stands straight infron of her and grabs her.

AGATHA

Help! HElP! HelP!

She struggles to break free It covers her mouth and carries her out into the hall and closes the door.

JOAN

Oh shit Oh shit. Stick with the plan. Gotta stick to the plan.

JOAN opens the window and throws down the linens tied together. She then climbs down. She gets to the bottom adn goes to the corner of the pokes her head around it to see the figure. After a few seconds of waiting. It walks out with AGATHA's screams muffled by something. Her limbs are tied and it is draggin her. JOAN follows it with a safe amount of distance. It walkes into the woods. She follows it in. The cloak puts AGATHA over his shoulders. She is no longer kicking and struggling. She follows quietly into the forest. She accidentally breaks a branch and causes noise. The cloak turns around for a few seconds. It looks in all directions and continues. We beign to hear JOAN's heart pumping. The cloak walks in for a few mintues and then an orange blur can be seen at the other end of the woods. It's a fire. A chanting sound can be hear. The cloak drags her body towards it. JOAN gets close enough to the fire to see everything, but is still in the woods unseen. The cloak ties AGATHA t a post along with a few men around the fire. He begins to speak.

DEATH

I am sorry, but one of out brothers is running late. We will commence without him. Death has come upon us. We lost one of our brothers today. I know why we lost out brother today. It is because we have no been properly worshipping our one and true God. Satan is angry at us. He know smites us for we have failed to spill the blood of those who believe in false gods. Today we will have out revenge on this hunk of meat.

He points to AGATHA. She begins to cry.

DEATH

Brother Inquisitor, do thy bidding and the Lord Satan's bidding so that we shall lie beside his right hand when the apocalypse arrives and all that is good shall be diminished.

JOAN watcges wide eyed. A man, Brother Inquisitor, grabs a knife. He grabs a cup and cuts AGATHA's belly open slightly. Blood begins to run down into the cup. JOAN puts her hand over her mouth so she wouldnt make a noise or throw up. The cup is filled and is given to DEATH. AGATHA screams in pain and cries, but they are muffles by duct tape. On the tape it marks 666. DEATH grabs the cup and takes off his hood. He drinks the blood. He takes a sip and holds the cup in fron of him.

DEATH

Brothers drink it for it is the cup of the innocent world, which will soon be no more. Brother Inquisitor do the final procedure.

The man grabs a knife and begins cutting the neck. JOAN tires harder not to scream. We see now a severed head on the board before DEATH. OFF-SCREEN he begins to do something, some cutting, we only see his arms and upperbody. He then has some material in his hands he eats it and swallows. There is now blood around his mouth.

DEATH

Feast for one day we shall die an be rewarded of our tributes.

The clan begins to hum something and heads for brain. JOAN is crying and is holding it in. She feels something at her side. She looks and sees a hand. She looks up the arm and there is a severed head with its eyes open. She begins to scream. The clan all turn their heads to her. JOAN gets up and begins to run back. THe men cahse her through the forest. She looks back and sees only the white masks on ehr trail. She runs for a few minutes (think 1968 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.) She then sees her car. She gets in it and tries to start it. The car will not start she tries 3 times. Then the faces can be seen. She hears the sound of a car coming from afar. She gets out of the car and heads for the road. She gets in the middle of the street and tells the moving car to stop. It stops. The driver rolls down his window.

DRIVER

How may I help you ma'am.

JOAN

(crying)

Take me to the nearest town. Let me in the car please. There are crazy murdering satanists, we need to talk to the police.

DRIVER

Sure get in. We must go immediately.

She gets in.

JOAN

Thank God you are here, they were after me.

DRIVER

We will get the official I promise you, you are safe with me.

The camera pans over to the backseat. There lies a white mask. The song Hotel CAlifornis plays once again through the credits. And we see the back of the car driving away.

THE END
