The Promise In You

Do you believe in ghosts?
What about true love devolving to doubt?
Did déjå vu ever control you with vertigo?
Ever have a hint of intuition about another?
l
Try to walk the curb, but I am clumsy
Too many feet on one side to walk on you
Too many to run you over on the other
Right when you think you got it, you fall.
l
Ever seen someone make blue jeans look unique?
Been entranced by a body part you rarely notice?
Feel the fear but know the growing freedom
From that constant inner critic, the one who's never wrong.
l
Let it go
Feel the breeze
Think you are flying
l
You can't let go
Why did you tease?
Now you're falling
l
I was pretty good at math
But it seems I can't count on you
You hate your poetry
But you're pretty good at writing me off.
l
That's not entirely true
Chaos controlled then spilled
Took a big risk for romance
Rush me to the hospital, broken
l
Like Humpty Dumpty I'm in pieces
An egg? I say it was a heart.
Although yours is white out and yellow inside
With a shell created from demon's games.
l
Let it go
Feel the breeze
Think you are flying
l
You can't let go
Why did you tease?
Now you're falling
l
Why must you take the devil's counsel?
When so many times you can be true.
How can you deny this true love?
Is it because all you've known is pain?
l
You keep me caged in agony
Over the promise of you
Why can't I get over you?
Because I see the promise in you
