-Saving Fate-

Author's Note: This story is set in an imaginary kingdom and is certainly not set in modern times. Please read and review it - I think it's got potential but you guys can be the judge of that.

Summary: Princess Sarah never wanted to be kidnapped. She never wanted to be involved in some crazy quest to save an ancient kingdom. And she most certainly never wanted an arrogant prince as her bodyguard. But it still all happened anyway. Uh Oh.

Prologue:

The girl running was pretty. The kind that makes you stop in the middle of the street for a second glance. Usually there was an expression on her face that made her seem as if she were not really there but instead in a far away place. But tonight, instead of her usual expression, the striking brunette's face was filled with fear. Fear of what - who knows? Fear of herself, fear of the past, fear for the future or perhaps the most destructive, fear of the truth.

The girl stopped when she faced three paths. Which one to go through? One was filled with birds and other animals and glorious trees and flowers of all sorts. Another was barren. Deserted. The final one was filled with thorns and trees that seemed to stretch like witches arms, ready to pull you to pieces. The girl chose the most obvious answer – the one filled with life.

The girl took a deep breath and ran through, but as soon as she walked through the entrance the trees' branches started to whirl and twist around her as if in a mad whirlpool. The animals started to chase after her. The flowers wrapped their stems around her legs, trapping her. And before she knew it she sank down, down into the black hole that suddenly appeared from underneath her…

Sarah, Princess of the royal kingdom of Majestia, shot up from her normally warm comfortable bed gasping for air. The dream, it had been so real. She placed one shaking hand on her forehead, trying to soothe its aching pain. She contemplated calling up one of the servants to get her a drink, but she figured that they wouldn't appreciate her very much for it. The sixteen year old also considered going to her parents, but in this wide majestic palace it would take her at least a good ten minutes to reach them, and wandering about in the dark at this time of night was something that she didn't really want to do. Sarah mentally slapped herself – here she was behaving as some little child – and she told herself to calm down.

The Princess sank back down into her bed and closed her eyes in the hope of falling back to sleep. She had a busy day tomorrow, being the day of her debutante ball and all, and she needed all the sleep that she could get. Her breathing soon evened out and she soon sank into a deep dreamless sleep, but not without the persistent feeling that something important was going to happen, that something would go wrong. Which when you think about it, Sarah reasoned just before she drifted off, was quite an unusual feeling to get from something as tedious as a Ball.

A/N: Please review – the next chapter will actually start the story. This story is actually based on one that I wrote up on as an Ella Enchanted story – though I have omitted anything that was to do with Ella Enchanted. (So it's actually now completely original).
