EXT. SPACE – PLANET OF FAUNA – DAY

Shot of the entire planet of FAUNA slowly rotating through space. The planet is viewed from the side that is currently exposed to the daylight. The planet is mostly water, just like Earth. All three major continents have a narrow, glowing yellow line along the entirety of the coastlines. A medium-sized island the size of Japan is visible floating between two of the continents. There is no glowing yellow line along the coastline of this island, however.

NARRATOR

Out there, somewhere in space, there is another world like ours. However, on this world, the animals are people, and each continent is entirely different.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – CITY OUTSKIRTS - DAY

There is a cityscape that covers the land from horizon to horizon. The buildings are somewhat well kept, but show some wear and grit.

To the west, is an amazingly tall wall made entirely out of yellow energy. This is the SPIRIT BORDER that lines every edge of coastline on the entire continent of METROPOTAMIA, as well as the other two continents on FAUNA, PELISIPIA and CHERRONESUS.

NARRATOR

Each land is contained with an immense Spirit Border made of powerful yellow energy that keeps the inhabitants inside. However… sometimes holes open, and people get out.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – BUSY CITY STREETS – DAY

There is a bustling city street, lined with immensely tall skyscrapers. Inhabitants of all animal species walk along the sidewalks, and hover cars zip along the streets. The scene is very much like that of a normal day in New York City.

NARRATOR

Metropotamia is a land bristling with technology. Everything in the daily lives of the Metropotamians includes technology to some degree. Power sources are a highly important resource. If Metropotamia's power were to go out, the people would go into chaos, and their entire lives would be shut down, completely.

EXT. CHERRONESUS – CASTLE COURTYARD – MORNING

There is a highly decorated castle courtyard, adorned with fine tapestries across the stone walls with a medieval garden in the center. A handful of high lords and ladies wearing fine robes and gowns are gathered in the courtyard for a quiet garden party.

NARRATOR

Cherronesus is very much like Medieval Europe, with its royals and peasants, merchants and craftsmen. You are born into your social class, and you die in that social class.

EXT. PELISIPIA – BUSY BAZAAR – AFTERNOON

There is a town square holding a bazaar, filled with stalls sheltered in brightly colored canvases. The scene is very much like that of a Moroccan bazaar. Merchants wearing brightly colored robes peddle their magical wares to shoppers. Trinkets glitter and glow, and there is a musical atmosphere about.

NARRATOR

The people of Pelisipia all have magical powers. Their lives are steeped in traditions and rituals, and the air is charged with magic. Technology has been abandoned for the sake of magic, and drastic changes are highly frowned upon.

EXT. SPACE – PLANET OF FAUNA – DAY

We see the planet of FAUNA again, this time from the dark side of the planet. Slowly, the planet continues to turn, and the star that lights this solar system comes into view from behind the planet.

NARRATOR

This story is about a group of bold outcasts who manage to escape from the confines of their unchanging homes, and discover what is beyond the Spirit Borders.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – ALLEYWAY – DAY

TWO FIGURES are seen running through the ALLEYWAY going westward. Both are clinging onto something most probably they just stole. They are followed by a LARGE FIGURE wielding a long pole-like weapon.

The two fleeing characters are the Utahraptor RAPTORIX, and the Kangaroo-Koala hybrid named DAEGO; both are female.

RAPTORIX is a cobalt blue raptor anthro, with silvery blue mane of feathers. RAPTORIX wears ragged close fitting clothes with several patches and visible tatters, mostly in drab gray colors.

DAEGO is an anthropomorphic Kangaroo-Koala. She mostly resembles a red kangaroo, and has the characteristic double-thumb hand structure of a koala, and koala ears. She has red hair that ends at the base of her skull.

DAEGO is actually blind, but has mechanical implants in her eyes that allow her to see. Her eyes are robotic, and make noises as the pupils expand and contract. Like RAPTORIX, DAEGO wears ragged, drab, close fitting tattered clothing.

DAEGO

Is… is he gaining on us, Raptorix?

RAPTORIX glances over her right shoulder and she looks terrified as she gasps at what she sees, and looks forward again.

RAPTORIX

Keep running, Daego! Don't look back!

The LARGE FIGURE is chasing after them. Their pursuer is a large, swarthy anthropomorphic male GORILLA. He is swinging around a large metal bat, and yelling at RAPTORIX and DAEGO to stop. His clothes are close fitting, but not so drab or tattered. He is a merchant from a nearby local market, and RAPTORIX and DAEGO just stole some food from his stall.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – ALLEYWAY INTERSECTION - DAY

RAPTORIX and DAEGO dodge left at an INTERSECTION and the GORILLA swings his bat down and nearly hits RAPTORIX. Instead, his bat smashes into the metallic wall of the building they are running between. A deep dent is left behind from the impact of the bat. The GORILLA continues to chase after them and swing his bat around.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – SIDE ALLEY - DAY

This SIDE ALLEY is full of discarded materials, large plastic crates, and a dumpster. The side alley ends abruptly with a tall wall that reaches nearly to the top of the shorter two-story building that frames the right wall of the side alley. RAPTORIX and DAEGO are apparently trapped.

DAEGO

Raptorix… this really isn't good.

The GORILLA slows down as his quarry has stopped near the wall. They are both facing the GORILLA, clutching onto their stolen foodstuffs. The GORILLA feels victorious, and starts slapping the bat into his empty hand. RAPTORIX looks about her at the stacked crates and discarded parts from various machines and vehicles.

RAPTORIX

Daego! We gotta go up!

RAPTORIX and DAEGO leap up on the crates and make their way up to the roof of the shorter building lining the SIDE ALLEY.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – ROOFTOP – DAY

RAPTORIX and DAEGO dash across the ROOFTOP to escape the GORILLA who is struggling to climb up the crates back in the SIDE ALLEY. They both stop at the edge of the ROOFTOP on the other side of the building. RAPTORIX and DAEGO look down into a separate WESTWARD ALLEYWAY, then they look back at each other.

GORILLA

Get back here! When I get you I'll—

RAPTORIX and DAEGO both look at their incoming attacker, then at each other. They look worried, but both seem to understand what the other is thinking.

RAPTORIX and DAEGO

Jump!

RAPTORIX and DAEGO leap down the building, using intermittent balconies as landings as they take the fast route down to the ground level.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – WESTWARD ALLEYWAY – DAY

RAPTORIX and DAEGO scramble westward. The GORILLA is just a breath or two behind RAPTORIX and DAEGO now. The WESTWARD ALLEYWAY ends in a dead end with the SPIRIT BORDER. RAPTORIX and DAEGO both brace themselves for collision into the SPIRIT BORDER. However, they do not crash into the endlessly tall wall of yellow energy, but rather, they pass through it.

The GORILLA stops short of the SPIRIT BORDER, dumbfounded. The GORILLA experimentally pokes through the SPIRIT BORDER with his bat. The bat goes in, but when he pulls it out, that portion is now gone, vaporized. Shocked, the GORILLA drops his bat. The bat still sizzles at the end where the SPIRIT BORDER cut part of it off. The GORILLA steps back, frowns at the SPIRIT BORDER, and walks away.

GORILLA

Scrappin' thieves. A good vaporization is what they deserved.

EXT. METROPOTAMIA – EMPTY BEACH – DAY

RAPTORIX and DAEGO are catching their breath on the other side of the SPIRIT BORDER. DAEGO looks back and can not see the city through the SPIRIT BORDER at all.

RAPTORIX

So this is what the other side looks like? Pretty empty.

DAEGO wrings her hands, looking all about nervously. She seems as if she is about to launch into a panic attack.

DAEGO

We're stranded! There's nothing out here! What are we going to do?! No one has ever gone past the Spirit Borders and survived! Or at least, we've never heard of anyone surviving the vaporization!

RAPTORIX spots something northwards out in the ocean. It is a SAILING VESSEL, and it is slowly sailing southwards towards their stretch of EMPTY BEACH. She points towards it, getting DAEGO'S attention. The tip of RAPTORIX's tail twitches and curls anxiously.

RAPTORIX

We're definitely not the first people to ever get past the Spirit Border, Daego.

EXT. PELISIPIA – MAGICAL RUINS – DUSK

A crowd is gathered at the ruins near a SPIRIT BORDER. Most are SPECTATORS. There is one PREIST—an ornately adorned egret—and four burly GUARDS standing close to the SPIRIT BORDER, holding and restraining a short, BOUND LEMUR. The PREIST is reciting the crimes that the BOUND LEMUR, named KITTRUNE, has committed.

PREIST

Kittrune, you are being charged for thievery of precious temple relics, and heresy. Do you have any final words to say in your defense?

KITTRUNE

I have nothing other to say than 'screw you, feather head.'

KITTRUNE is a ringtail lemur anthro. He is short of stature, and wears a simple tunic and trousers in earthy colors. His long hair is up in a ponytail. His hands are restrained behind his back with magical ropes, and a heavy magical chain is attached to both his feet to hinder any attempts at running. However, in spite of this, he holds his long tail straight up in the air behind him, showing that he still has his pride.

KITTRUNE twitches his tail to put emphasis on the insult 'feather head'.

PREIST

If there are no further arguments with that statement, then I hereby sentence you to banishment beyond the Spirit Borders and or vaporization upon contact with said Borders. Guards, throw him in.

Two of the GUARDS untie the magical ropes and release his feet from the heavy chains. They then forcefully drag a struggling and cursing KITTRUNE to the SPIRIT BORDER. All four GUARDS hurl KITTRUNE through the towering wall of yellow energy. KITTRUNE yells as he is flung through. The gathered crowd cheer.

EXT. PELISIPIA – DESERTED BEACH – DUSK

KITTRUNE flies through the other side of the SPIRIT BORDER and lands about ten feet away, face first in the sand. KITTRUNE spits some sand out of his mouth, and crawls to his feet, and brushes sand off of himself, and takes one last glance behind him at the SPIRIT BORDER.

KITTRUNE

(dryly)

And here I thought they were throwing me into paradise.

KITTRUNE walks across the sand, up to the water's edge. He spots a SAILING VESSEL on the horizon, approaching his position.

EXT. CHERRONESUS – FOREST MEADOW – MORNING

TWO RIDERS are seen riding their mounts across the FOREST MEADOW at a steady gallop. The TWO RIDERS both wear garb like that of medieval knights. Both carry a sword, secured to their saddles for travel. Both have a quiver of arrows and a bow tied to their backs. However, both have managed to position their quivers between their tucked-in wings.

The FOREST MEADOW is a simple clearing in the middle of a deciduous forest, ringed along the edges with tall trees. The TWO RIDERS are riding upon horse-like beasts. One of the riders is an OLD DRAGON, while the other is a GRYPHON. The GRYPHON is known as AVIER, and the OLD DRAGON is known as MASTER.

AVIER turns to MASTER and gives a smirk, he twitches both his ears with excitement.

AVIER

Beautiful day for a hunt, aye Master?

MASTER

Aye it is, Avier. Couldn't ask for better weather today.

AVIER and MASTER finish crossing the FOREST MEADOW and enter the FOREST.

EXT. CHERRONESUS – FOREST – MORNING

SHADY FIGURES are seen hiding behind the trees, out of sight of AVIER and MASTER. AVIER and MASTER have to slow their mounts a bit to get between the trees.

Suddenly, the SHADY FIGURES spring their attack, and one drops from a tree branch onto the back of MASTER's mount. The SURPRISE ATTACKER and MASTER struggle, and AVIER struggles to gain control of his spooked mount.

AVIER

BLOODY FECK! Brigands out here?!

AVIER automatically draws his sword as his mount excitedly dances on the spot, fighting the urge to flee and trying to obey its rider. Avier does all he can to get the beast under control while holding the drawn sword.

MASTER

Get out of here NOW! That's an ORDER, Avier!

MASTER draws his sword as well, and swings it as emphasis towards the ground, out of range of AVIER. MASTER turns his mount to face one of the incoming BRIGANDS.

However, a SURPRISE ATTACKER manages to drop from the trees, land on MASTER'S mount, and stab MASTER in the back. Before AVIER can disobey his MASTER and rush up to save him, an arrow whizzes past AVIER's face, a second nearly hits AVIER's mount. AVIER's mount screams and bolts, heading eastward. AVIER can no longer control his mount, and he clings on for dear life as the beast runs at full gallop.

AVIER's mount continues to race eastward, and AVIER dodges branches flying by his face.

EXT. CHERRONESUS – FOREST NEAR BORDER – MORNING

The trees break, and AVIER can see the SPIRIT BORDER looming suddenly in front of him. AVIER just has enough time to brace himself as the beast carrying him rushes towards the SPIRIT BORDER, blind with fright.

EXT. CHERRONESUS – QUIET BEACH – MORNING

AVIER and his mount pass harmlessly through the SPIRIT BORDER. The beast finally stops running when it runs straight into the ocean. AVIER is taken by surprise from such a sudden change in scenery. AVIER stays on his mount as the beast slowly calms down from its sprint through the FOREST.

AVIER

Where the feck is this place? I must be dead! There is no way I could have survived going through the Spirit Border!

AVIER is in shock, and frantically looks up and down the coastline, hoping that MASTER might've caught up with him.

Then, AVIER spots a SAILING VESSEL slowly sailing northwards up the coast, approaching his position. AVIER dismounts, and watches the SAILING VESSEL with mixed feeling. AVIER's ears are rotated behind him, in anxiety.

EXT. FAUNA – VAST OCEAN – DAY

A view of nothing but beautifully clear blue ocean, the waves are clam, and slowly moving clouds express that there is a good, strong wind out, blowing southwards.

The SAILING VESSEL suddenly interrupts the view, and right in plain view. The SAILING VESSEL is so close you can easily see people working on the decks and the interiors of some of the porthole windows below deck.

This SAILING VESSEL is THE SALTY DOG, a ship built from combining the technology and efforts of people from METROPOTAMIA, PELISIPIA and CHERRONESUS. You can plainly see the parts where each culture has influenced in the ship's design and construction. The hull and deck are made from steel that is no doubt straight from METROPOTAMIA, but the workmanship on the deck is the result of the artisan crafters of CHERRONESUS. Yet, strewn about the deck and amongst the sails, are many charms and magical artifacts that came from PELISIPIA to aid in safe sailing.

The workmanship and construction hint at a subculture of escapees who have come together and combined their technologies and strengths for several generations to produce such a fine vessel.

EXT. THE SALTY DOG – TOP DECK – DAY

RAPTORIX and KITTRUNE are both mopping the top deck out in the bright, hot sunshine. RAPTORIX is diligently mopping while KITTRUNE has to take a bit of a break every few moments and leans against his mop. Each has a full water bucket that they're using to dip their mops in. However, KITTRUNE seems to be contemplating about using the bucket to dump the water on himself to cool off.

KITTRUNE

Does it have to be this flipping hot?! I'm about to get heat stroke out here!

KITTRUNE wipes sweat from his brow, his usually perky tail is drooping on the floor, getting damp from the freshly mopped areas of the deck.

RAPTORIX

It's all that thick fur of yours, Kittrune. Maybe if you shaved it all off, you'd stop complaining so much?

RAPTORIX jokes in a friendly manner, then chuckles and smirks. The heat and sun doesn't bother her as much as KITTRUNE, and the most she's doing is a light sweat.

KITTRUNE

All that fur, why don't you shave it?

KITTRUNE makes a face and repeats RAPTORIX mockingly in a snarky manner, curling up his lip. Suddenly, a mischievous grin spreads across his face as he comes up with an idea.

KITTRUNE puts his mop aside, and dips his cupped hands into the bucket of water. He uses a bit of magic to accumulate a large ball of water into his hands. The ball of water looks like a very full water balloon, minus the balloon. KITTRUNE carries the little bit of water carefully over to RAPTORIX, who is busy with her chores. He lifts his arms up above his head, and pours the water in his hands down RAPTORIX's back.

RAPTORIX reacts by squealing and startling in surprise. All of RAPTORIX's back is now dripping wet from KITTRUNE's prank. RAPTORIX turns around to face KITTRUNE, her face full of disgust.

KITTRUNE is already rolling around on the floor, laughing at his prank.

RAPTORIX

EW! We just used that water to mop this filthy deck! EW EW EW!

RAPTORIX squirms in disgust, and tries to reach behind her back and wring the water out of her shirt.

KITTRUNE gets back up to his feet, still laughing, and wipes a tear from his eye. He holds his stomach from all the laughter.

KITTRUNE

The advantage of having all this fur, my dear, is so that I won't FREEZE as badly as you would!

KITTRUNE pats RAPTORIX's soaked back in a friendly gesture. However, the glow of magic emanates from his hand when he says 'FREEZE' and RAPTORIX startles again. She twists around and gasps in shock, trying to reach her now frozen back.

RAPTORIX

COLD COLD COLD COLD!

KITTRUNE's laughter is renewed, and this time he doubles over, and points at poor RAPTORIX's misfortune.

RAPTORIX

Oh you filthy little mage!

KITTRUNE

Uh-oh!

RAPTORIX stops her squirming and begins to chase KITTRUNE around the deck. They run around the deck, past other working sailors, who were busy with their own chores.

KITTRUNE runs up to the cabin door, opens it, and dashes inside, slamming the door in RAPTORIX's face.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – CABIN STAIRWELL – DAY

RAPTORIX slams the door open, and races down the stairway to go below deck after KITTRUNE. RAPTORIX scrambles around the hairpin turn at the middle stairway landing and launches herself down the next flight of stairs.

At the foot of the stairs, a BLUE ELF is calmly walking up the stairway. RAPTORIX accidentally barrels right into the BLUE ELF and the two tumble down the last couple of steps together and land in a tangled heap.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – CABIN HALLWAY – DAY

RAPTORIX gets up and helps the BLUE ELF up with her. She dusts herself off and picks up the clipboard that the BLUE ELF was carrying earlier.

RAPTORIX

Ah! I'm so sorry First Mate Aldonatis! You all right?

The BLUE ELF is really named ALDONATIS. ALDONATIS looks just like a normal human, except for his blue skin, pointed ears, and long orange hair he wears tied back in a braid. His eyes are bright green, and he wears a simple green tunic and brown trousers.

ALDONATIS

I'm all right. And you don't have to call me 'First Mate' anything. Aldonatis will do fine. We're all equals on this ship anyway.

RAPTORIX flushes for a bit and grins sheepishly.

RAPTORIX

Yes, sorry Aldonatis. I was in bit of a hurry.

ALDONATIS

Who were you just chasing? You know you're not supposed to be running on the ship, it's dangerous.

RAPTORIX juts out her chin and frowns. She has both her fists balled up and close to her sides.

RAPTORIX

That little prankster, Kittrune just froze the back of my shirt. I chased him down here, because I was going to 'repay' him.

RAPTORIX looks around the hallway, looking for any sign of KITTRUNE hiding somewhere nearby.

ALDONATIS

Just whatever you do, don't kill him or 'repay' him too hard, okay? We need every able body we can get on this ship to keep it running smoothly.

ALDONATIS laughs good-naturedly at RAPTORIX. Down the CABIN HALLWAY, KITTRUNE peeks his head out from one of the doorways.

RAPTORIX

There you are, you dirty mage! Excuse me, Aldonatis!

RAPTORIX squeezes past ALDONATIS and jogs after KITTRUNE, who has taken off down the CABIN HALLWAY and turns right off to another hallway. ALDONATIS calls out at RAPTORIX's fleeting back.

ALDONATIS

No running! And don't forget to check your chore schedules!

INT. THE SALTY DOG – MESS HALL – EVENING

The crew of THE SALTY DOG is assembled in MESS HALL below decks for the evening meal. It is quite clean, and filled with several tables and benches. Almost all the benches are full with crewmembers eating.

KITTRUNE, who looks a lot healthier than he was earlier, is at a table already with ALDONATIS.

RAPTORIX and DAEGO enter the MESS HALL together, chatting with each other. They walk through the MESS HALL and head towards the KITCHEN.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – KITCHEN - EVENING

They both get in line at the counter where the SHIP'S COOK is serving food to the crewmembers. DAEGO orders first.

DAEGO

Do you have anything… vegetarian?

SHIP'S COOK

Hard tack, pickles, and an apple. Sorry it's not a salad, lass.

The SHIP'S COOK places the biscuit, pickle, and apple on DAEGO's plate. DAEGO frowns disappointedly, and heads off to the table with KITTRUNE and ALDONATIS.

RAPTORIX is the next in line, and places her order.

RAPTORIX

Anything left of today's fish catch?

SHIP'S COOK

You're quite lucky, lass. We got just one fish left.

The SHIP'S COOK puts a raw fish on RAPTORIX's plate, along with a biscuit and a pickle.

RAPTORIX

Ah, thank you kindly, sir.

RAPTORIX curtsies, then walks back to the MESS HALL with her plate.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – MESS HALL – EVENING

RAPTORIX joins ALDONATIS, KITTRUNE, and DAEGO at the table and begins eating her fish.

AVIER comes into the MESS HALL and swaggers over to the KITCHEN to get his food.

Everyone at the table that RAPTORIX is sitting at are quietly eating their food. The low chatter of the MESS HALL is interrupted by the sounds of AVIER shouting from the KITCHEN.

KITTRUNE

Uh oh, I wonder what he's throwing a fuss over today?

RAPTORIX

I bet the cook put his biscuit on the right side of his plate when he wanted it on the left side of his plate.

The group all stifle their laughter at RAPTORIX's joke, trying not to laugh too hard that AVIER might hear them mocking him.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – KITCHEN – EVENING

AVIER is furious at the SHIP'S COOK, and is speaking in very loud, harsh tones through clenched teeth.

AVIER

How can we be out of fish when there are billions of them out in the waters that this vessel is sailing on?!

The SHIP'S COOK shrugs, holding his palms up, trying to diffuse AVIER's anger by explaining the situation as calmly as possible. The SHIP'S COOK is a raccoon mage with a Brooklyn accent, and he wears a grease-stained gray apron.

SHIP'S COOK

Aaay! I only prepare and serve the fish on this boat. It's yous guys responsibility to fish 'em up yourself if you want 'em fresh.

AVIER looks very indignant, and insulted. He glares at the SHIP'S COOK with a look that could kill.

AVIER

I have just worked the hardest day ever in my life below decks, and you tell me that whoever was responsible for fishing tonight's dinner got lazy and didn't fish enough for everyone?!

AVIER's voice starts with a normal tone, but slowly escalates into an angry yell at the SHIP'S COOK.

SHIP'S COOK

If you just gotta have fish for dinner tonight, then I got plenty of dried fish you can have. It's almost the same thing!

The SHIP'S COOK pulls out two dried fish fillets, which AVIER frowns at. However, he thinks about it for a second, and sighs. Yet he is not done grousing.

AVIER

If that is all you have that contains meat, then I will take it. I cannot stand those apples and pickles of yours.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – MESS HALL – EVENING

AVIER exits the KITCHEN and storms over to a table towards the back of the MESS HALL, where he throws his plate down and he grudgingly sits down to eat his meal.

RAPTORIX observes all of this, gets up, and takes her plate of fresh fish with her towards Avier. One of the fish has been eaten a bit already, but just a bite.

RAPTORIX puts her plate down next to AVIER's, which gets his attention. AVIER turns to face RAPTORIX, who is still standing up next to AVIER.

RAPTORIX

Here, I'll trade with you. I don't mind eating dried fish.

AVIER frowns at the offered plate and then looks up at RAPTORIX with disgust.

AVIER

I can't eat this! You've already put your mouth on it, it's disgusting! I'd rather gag down dried fish than vomit from your germ-infested offering of half-eaten fresh fish.

RAPTORIX pouted with irritation. She crosses her arms over her chest and acts defensively offended.

RAPTORIX

Damn, do you always look a gift horse in the mouth? I guess I'll take my tainted fish back with me and leave you to sulk over your dried fish.

RAPTORIX snatched up her offered plate and stormed back to the table she was sitting at, now sharing the same sour mood that AVIER is in.

EXT. THE SALTY DOG – CROW'S NEST – EVENING

The LOOKOUT, a black panther with a cyborg prosthetic arm, looks out over the horizon in the fading light. In the LOOKOUT's spyglass, he can see the form of an ISLAND peeking over the darkening horizon.

The LOOKOUT snatches up a communicator device and bellows into it, his call echoing about the entire ship.

LOOKOUT

LAND HO! Shandor sighted dead ahead over the horizon!

EXT. THE SALTY DOG – SHIP'S DECK – EVENING

All about the ship, the crew is abuzz with excitement, and everyone is repeating 'SHANDOR', and sharing the news with his or her crewmates, who already obviously have heard the same announcement.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – SHIP'S INTERRIOR – EVENING

Word is spreading fast, as is the excitement. Crewmembers are talking excitedly amongst each other as they discuss what they plan on doing once they arrive.

ALDONATIS exits one room of the SHIP'S INTERRIOR and heads down the hallways, walking with importance. ALDONATIS opens an elaborately decorated door into the CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS – EVENING

The room is decorated with plenty of antiques, and has a very rustic feel to it.

In the center of the room is a desk, and sitting at it is the SHIP'S CAPTAIN, who is busy writing in his ship's log.

The SHIP'S CAPTAIN is an old and weathered bobcat. Most of his left ear has been torn off, and he has a scar across his nose. His name is CAPTAIN BAULDRY.

ALDONATIS

Captain Bauldry, we have an estimated time of arrival for Shandor from the navigator.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY looks up from his ship's log. ALDONATIS hands a paper printout to CAPTAIN BAULDRY, who grabs it and reads it over quickly. A toothy smile spreads across CAPTAIN BAULDRY's face, and he puts the paper down.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY

Ah, thank ye, First Mate Aldonatis. The crew'll be happy to hear this news.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY stands up, plants his hands firmly on his desk, leans forward, and smiles a very toothy grin towards ALDONATIS.

INT. THE SALTY DOG – MESS HALL – EVENING

The MESS HALL is thriving with lively crewmates enjoying an evening break after a long hard day of work. Everyone is chatting excitedly, and rumors are already flying. Everyone anticipates the first word of confirmation that THE SALTY DOG has caught sight of land.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY hobbles patiently into the MESS HALL, and makes a silencing motion with his hands held above his head. He continues motioning until the noisy MESS HALL has finally settled down and every single crew member has CAPTAIN BAULDRY's full attention.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY clears his throat, and speaks loudly, so that all of the MESS HALL can hear his announcement.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY

The rumors have been confirmed! We are a night's sailing away from Shandor as we speak!

Everyone in the MESS HALL cheers loudly. People get out of their seats to cheer excitedly and animatedly. CAPTAIN BAULDRY motions again for silence, and everyone quickly quiets down.

CAPTAIN BAULDRY

Even though this is a moment to rejoice, it is not an excuse to slack off. We'll have to work very hard well into the night tonight if we're going to make a smooth landing tomorrow morning. The sooner we get all our preparations done tonight, the sooner everyone can get off the boat. Now let's get to work!

All the crewmembers cheer animatedly for a last time, and then much noise is made about the after-dinner cleanup.

EXT. THE SALTY DOG – TOP DECK – NIGHT

RAPTORIX comes up to the TOP DECK for a short break from her work. She has dirt smudges all over her body, and is using a dampened cloth to try and remove some of the dirt. She walks across the deck, admiring the clear view of the stars in the sky. She then looks ahead and sees ALDONATIS sitting up by the FONT OF THE SHIP. RAPTORIX continues walking across the TOP DECK to go sit by ALDONATIS.

EXT. THE SALTY DOG – FRONT OF THE SHIP – NIGHT

RAPTORIX sits down right beside ALDONATIS, who's looking out across the dark ocean to see the darkened island ahead of them. ALDONATIS looks over to RAPTORIX when she sits down next to him.

RAPTORIX

So what's so special about that island anyway? How come I don't see any Spirit Border around it?

ALDONATIS

Shandor is the home of the Blue Elves—my home. My people took the Spirit Border down generations ago.

ALDONATIS seems depressed, quiet, and pensive. He acts like he doesn't want to see his home again.

RAPTORIX

It's amazing that your people have that kind of power! Will we see your family on Shandor?

RAPTORIX is genuinely amazed, and thoroughly curious about learning more of ALDONATIS' home.

ALDONATIS

You'll meet my family, but I won't be there to introduce you to them. I've been banished from Shandor, so I must remain on the ship the entire time we're there.

RAPTORIX

That's terrible…

There is a long pause of silence, and RAPTORIX absent-mindedly rubs at a dirt smudge on her left arm with the damp rag. Suddenly, her left arm appears to flicker, and RAPTORIX clutches it, trying to cover it with the small rag she was cleaning with.

ALDONATIS looks at RAPTORIX for a long moment, somewhat puzzled. RAPTORIX gives him an embarrassed smile, trying to cover up what she's hiding; yet her arm continues to flicker between what appears to be her natural skin, to something more metallic and artificial.

ALDONATIS

Your arm…

RAPTORIX

Heh heh… just… shivering! On my left arm! This arm is so weird sometimes. Like it'll just get cold all of a sudden and shiver on it's own!

RAPTORIX babbles, trying to find a way to cover up her flickering left arm. Yet she knows that ALDONATIS sees right through her excuses.

ALDONATIS

Why do you cover up your cyborg prosthetic arm with a hologram?
