Thou wert an arrow, honest, straight and true,
Just in thy judgment, certain in thy aim;
Thou strived for peace – 'twas so long overdue –
Thou fought with courage, 'till thine own time came.
Thou wert a savior, a beacon of aid,
Freeing opressed in a land far from home.
Though thou wert hated, thou steadfastly stayed,
Piecing together a shaky salaam.
Thou wert a flame, too eas'ly extinguished,
Quickly blown out when thy glow was most bright;
Thou wert an eagle, brave and distinguished,
A spirit of valor slain in mid-flight.
In truth thee were naught but a soldier young
Who died serving peace; a hero unsung.
