The old English of smile, technically means 'to laugh'

Hers was the mystery of night
His was the magical glow of day

She owned the stars
He owned the clouds

She knew little light
He knew shadows were always there

She only knew of silence
He always spoke his mind

She seemed to feel only sorrow
He also felt sorrow but didn't mind

She was in monochrome
He was all the shades of the spectrum

She was always confused
He just smiled.
