Under One Roof
The Story: Sarah Mendes lives in a small apartment in a district of Manhattan. This apartment is full of weird and quirky characters: from an effeminate hairdresser and a waitress working at the famous sex themed restaurant "Tingling Senses" as her allies, to the formidable secretary Lynette Venda and her bunch of spineless horny male puppets as her enemies. When the hot new guy moves in down the hall, all hell breaks loose and it becomes a race between Sarah and Lynette to see who gets the guy first - with the landlady taking bets on the side.
Prologue:
In a particular district of the chic Manhattan, there was an apartment that belonged to an old lady with nothing better to do. She had 4 children and 6 grandchildren and lived a life of luxury. However, that wasn't all she desired. This old lady had a craving for entertainment and adventure. She wasn't content with looking after her grandchildren and knitting all day at home, she would rather be out there somewhere having fun and getting into trouble. So, on a moment of impulse she bought an old abandoned building and renovated it into an apartment for rent. And the day Sarah Mendes found the housing ad in the Manhattan Times was the day her life changed.
This apartment building was given a fresh coat of paint almost yearly. Currently it was painted a striking orange. Nothing was different about this apartment from others except that the occupants of this apartment were all slightly quirky and had a wide range of personalities and jobs. When the old lady screened her future tenants, she put them through a lie detector test and a personality quiz. Many buckled under the pressure and decided even the scandalously cheap rent was not worth the horrors of a quirky landlady. The apartment remained rather empty until a bunch of equally quirky people applied. And thus a quirky community was formed in the apartment and the old lady finally accomplished her wish of having fun around people with colorful personalities and jobs. The end.
Not.
Nothing is perfect in the world and people can't stay happy with each other forever. The five-storey apartment was soon split into 3 groups: Mendes, Venda and Neutral.
The Mendes group is led by Sarah Mendes, a 23 year old starting her first year as a columnist at the Manhattan Times, the local newspaper. She is one of those disorganized girls who live day by day and can hardly be bothered to plan for anything because eventually, those plans will not coordinate. At 5"5 with shoulder length chestnut hair and white rectangular frames, she looks every inch the perfect columnist and innocent virgin. Sarah Mendes will be the protagonist of the story.
And loyally supporting her are the effeminate top hairdresser, Dean "Delia" Malone and a much sought after waitress of the "Tingling Senses", a famous sex themed restaurant in Manhattan. Dean – or Delia as he preferred to be known as – is a 35 year old hairdresser from an upscale salon "Passion" and very much willing to embrace his feminine side. Of course, Delia denies that he is gay; he claims that he is just bias towards feminine stuff and will settle down with any girl that is willing to accept that side of him.
Vera Payner is the 37 year old waitress who causes many men to have wet dreams every night. She dresses provocatively and likes being the center of attention. One downside to Vera is she can't drink alcohol excessively, once she becomes drunk, she will transform into Xena the Warrior Princess and start slaughtering any horny chauvinistic man in sight.
The Venda party is led by Lynette Venda, the 25 year old secretary of the Yenom Financial Corporation's CEO. She cuts a svelte figure in her white Chanel suit and mini skirt and goes tanning regularly to achieve the perfect glowing skin. One bat of her eyelash and there will be boys all chasing after her every whim. Lynette loathes Sarah for the fact that Sarah once made a casual remark about how Lynette climbed up the career ladder so quickly. Was the tension a result of guilty conscience? Lynette Venda is our main antagonist.
Of course, with so much charm, Lynette commands power over men. The other half of the Venda group is filled with male tenants smitten with Lynette.
The Neutral group is led by our dear old quirky landlady Elina Heathens, who at age 67 is still as bouncy as ever. Happily watching the battle between Venda and Mendes, she takes bets from other tenants in the neutral group as they sit back, drink a couple of beers, eat some peanuts, play some cards and predict who will win the next race.
So, is anybody ready to place bets?
A/N: This is a relatively short chapter describing the relationship of the people living in the apartment building. It's a story outline I conceived after listening to one of Nickelback's newest song. If I get promising reviews I will continue the story. Please comment.
