Kyle genuinely looked shocked at my answer and was unable to talk for a second or two. "What?" He asked as if he had misheard me.
"I said no." I repeated.
"Why the hell not?" Poor Kyle. He seemed to be in denial. His one chance of getting Candice back had been shattered. But it really was not my problem.
"Firstly, if you like someone you don't make up a partner to make them feel jealous. That's basically like lying and no decent person would actually do that with someone they care about. Secondly, think about it. Why on earth would someone who hates you as much as you hate them actually help you to achieve a goal that would make you happy, even if you were blackmailing them? And that brings me nicely onto my third point. Sure I would be embarrassed for a couple of days, maybe a week if you decided to tell Lee I had feeling for him. But I would get over it and most importantly; at least you wouldn't have anything on me. So I'm sorry, you lucked out. Maybe you should find a suitable candidate for this very meaningful task. Someone with a short skirt, high heels and a high-pitched screech perhaps?" I inwardly jumped for joy inside. I had made my first ever speech without tripping over my words. Was just a little upset Mr. Hannighan wasn't here to witness it. Like he would believe it even if he were.
I was totally ready to walk out of his sight when I heard laughter from the other end of the corridor. I looked in the direction of the noise and my heart plummeted. Candice and Lee were ten metres away, openly flirting with each other in public. Why did that little creep have to be right about everything?
Before I knew what I was doing I had backed Kyle up against the lockers. "We do this on my terms. The café at six," I hissed into his ear and turned swiftly on the heel of my worn out sneakers, but not before I saw a wide grin form on his face.
I entered the café a couple of minutes after six, half expecting him not to turn up. Now that was silly of me. I trudged over to the window seat that he occupied silently thanking myself that I picked the café and not the usual diner that all the pupils of Westbrook It would have looked slightly odd if arch nemesis' were seen having a coffee together.
"HI!" I said in an unusually squeaky tone.
"HI!" He was mimicking me! Oh why did I ever agree to this? All I know is that it would all have been fine if Mr Prefect and Miss Bitch hadn't come into the corridor at that moment in time. I cursed my luck.
Very business like I plonked myself on the seat opposite and sighed. "Ok this is the deal, I don't have a clue how exactly we're going to pull this off so you come up with the details and I play along. Got it?" I was getting used to hissing these days. But at least I was staying calm.
Kyle grinned. "I knew that you would see it my way. So here's the plan…"
Three days later and the weekend was looming in the not so distance future. The craziness of plotting and planning had taken its toll on me and I was grateful that I would have a rest the next two days. But there was just one thing that I had to do to get this show on the road. Taking a deep breath I walked over to the lunch table which Maddie was occupying and took a seat. I quickly stole a glance at Kyle who was seated at the 'popular' table on the opposite side of the cafeteria. Surprisingly he was looking my way and gave me a brief nod with his so-called charming grin. Thankfully for him no one on his table noticed the exchange of acknowledgement or his reputation would be over. Not that that was going to matter in a week or so. I reluctantly grinned back. Best make it look like I am head over heels for him.
"Ok what is the deal?" Maddie broke me from my thoughts. From the look on her face I assumed that she had just seen the exchange. This made things a whole lot easier.
"Hmm?" I managed to mumble. Okay it is definitely the time to keep a straight face. But I couldn't help a small grin form escaping my lips.
"Oh my gosh! Look at you! Okay when the hell did this happen? I thought that you liked Lee!" She was gushing. The girl was gushing and there was nothing that I could do about it. As her voice grew louder, those on the nearby tabled turned to face us.
Time for some damage control. "First of all Mads, keep your voice down. I don't want the whole world to know, especially Kyle! I just noticed that he's really cute and nice and stuff. And Lee was just a silly school girl crush, that's all." Oh how I hated myself at that moment. I could kill myself for letting evil words about the love of my life come from my mouth. Oh man I sound like a boy obsessed teenage girl. GROSS! Damn, Kyle brings out the worse in me.
"You too would make the best couple ever!" She had now progressed onto squealing. Oh dear god, the horror of it. I was ready to shoot myself. But instead a forced smile was still pasted on my face.
"Yeah right Mads. The guy is like a god in this place. He would never in a million years notice me like that. And we fight all the time. It was just never meant to be." I had rehearsed the line so many times the night before, but it still wanted to retch. Cue the puppy dog eyes and the mental image of Kyle having a slow and extremely painful death.
"Oh that's where you are sadly mistaken. Because a couple of days ago Kyle just happened to be talking to Junior and –" She stopped herself at that point and clamped her hand over her mouth. "You know what? It's nothing. I'm sure that it was nothing."
So Kyle was right. Junior had fallen for the bait and as he had predicted Maddie was told straight away. I didn't know that he knew my friends so well. "Okay…" I was getting good at this acting thing. I wonder why I never took up drama class.
"Umm so…Are you doing anything this weekend? Because you know how Chicken Little is out tomorrow and I was wondering if you wanted to go and see it with me and Junior." Change of subject. The classic move. I could so read her like a book, but I felt it best to play along.
"I think I'll give it a miss. I don't want to be the third wheel. It kind of makes me feel uncomfortable."
"Junior was thinking of bringing one of your friends along to, so it would be four of us." She tried to look innocent but I could see right through her. One thing that Maddie was the worst at was lying.
"Oh ok. Sure, why not?" This was going way better than planned. I hated to admit it but Kyle was a genius.
"Great. We'll pick you up at half seven. Don't worry we will have you home by midnight. I know how Lou and John fuss over you." With that she resumed standing up and putting her tray away. She turned back to face me. "And Sammy, for once make an effort with what you are wearing. Believe me, it will be worth it." She grinned at me and gestured for me to follow.
I took another look at Kyle. His eyebrows were raised as if to question me. It was my turn for a swift nod before accompanying Maddie towards Junior and the rest of the gang.
At least that was over.
Just as I was packing away my books after the last lesson of the day my cell vibrated. Fishing it out of the bottom of my bag I found that I had a message from Kyle. The stupid boy had made me give him my number so that we could discuss our 'relationship'. I wasn't really surprised it was him.

How could he make me so angry by sending a text message? That guy is so annoying. And now I have a pretend date with him.
My first date is with Kyle Collins. There's something I thought I would never say.
OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH sorry I couldn't update. I had a university interview and I so needed to prepare. It sucked so bad. And one of my best friends just phoned me to tell me he's got his second offer. He'll make a way better doctor than me anyway! I HATE HIM SO BAD! Ok no I don't but I am so jealous of him its unbelievable. Now lets all say "JAMIE WE HATE YOU!" Junior is based on Jamie btw. And Maddie is based on LulaR, but they are not going out. Just the way they act at times. LOL!
And to top it all off he's going ski-ing with a bunch of my mates for the half-term and they are leaving today! OHHH JEALOUSY IS RAGING! (I think that's like spring break?)
