Okay…this bastard is heavy.

I shifted my weight again on the back of my boots, and built up momentum in my legs.

It was late, with eerie recognition. I had been trying to get his body through this mortal infested hole for hours, only to get to this bridge by close dawn and hope for some relief.

To no avail, apparently.

I pushed. Half of his upper torso compiled on and over the cement edge. One more push should…

"Ma'am?" A bright light swung by my sensitive eyes and I let out a low, feral hiss.

"What?!" I turned towards the voice with half shut eyes and a scowl. The young police officer raised his eyebrows.

"Is everything alright?" He flickered his light over my dead prey.

"'Just had too much to drink." I straightened and arched my back. It hurt.

"You sure he's fine? 'Looks a bit-"

"It's alright." I gave him an empty look. Placing my hands on the base of the bridge, I pulled myself up and sat.

He regarded me uncertainly. Looking back at his patrol car, it seemed he was debating with himself.

"Go." It was a light suggestion.

He looked back at me wearily. "You get him help if he doesn't come around soon."

I nodded.

"Take it easy." He strolled away. Fool.

The wind whispered by my ear, speaking to me in an uncomprehendable language. It synchronized with the hollow space below, howling, as ripples of water fanned against the black, glass surface.

That sound never changed. Not even after all these years.

I gave an erotic smile, and stroked back my hair. I traced a small, winding design in the air with my finger, reaching high to feel the energy of the gusts. Then I grasped for it, and clenched my fist.

I opened it- of course, nothing.

There was nothing. But it was something.

It was the story of my life. How things would be. If I continued to remain- a vampiress in uncontained mortal society…I'd have to be like the wind.

Unseen…uncatchable…powerful, yet unexpected…

And of course,

"Free…" The whisper escaped my lips, entwining with the sounds from the unseen night.

Dejectedly, I focused my attention back to my prey. I pushed off my sitting space, and regained a position to finish the job.

I gave a final push, and he disappeared within the depths of the dark water. The crash was unheard over the screeching. As air pierced through the openings of the tree's I whaled an ancient hymn and spun, captivated, and unable to refuse my wishes of joining the night and its song.

That was my short, one shot I promised. Something a little different. Please tell me what you think and comment!
