Prologue

The lush land of Mythopia, the overworld, spread out in front of Kat. Her mission was to find Princess Stephanie and help her find the kings captured by an evil-minded man from Kaneboro, the underworld. Another little part of the mission was to find an old missionary of Rhea named Matt, nicknamed the "Night Knight" due to his ability to work in the dark. Rhea expected Kat to be able to do this.

Kat sat down on a smooth surfaced tree stump. If Matt was disguised, it would be hard. He could possibly pass for a con artist. Why did she have to find him? He was so disgustingly annoying. What was the whole point anyway?

Rhea had at least given a reason for helping Stephanie. Rhea didn't want the land in chaos. She was the guardian of the world anyway. That was no wonder that she cared. Rhea did not tell Kat any reason why she wanted Matt. It would be nice if it was to punish him, but Kat seriously doubted that. He was too good, and she was too envious. He knew so much more than she did. He had so much more experience too. Kat was an amateur compared to Matt. An amateur indeed.

Rhea was a sprite mage and the guardian of the third world of Gaia, the world that Mythopia was a part of. Kat, knowing very little about the world, was a young mystical creature with a much more to learn. She had been trained in the guardian's place, isolated. Matt was an elfin knight, so skilled that he could probably defeat almost everyone in challenges. Almost everyone. In other words, he wasn't an amateur, but then he wasn't the very absolute best either. It was just too bad for him.

Kat sighed and looked around, just in time to see a deer ran by. Kat watched it run. Should she hide her green hair and purple eyes? No, it wasn't necessary. No one would know her. Well, almost no one. If Matt remembered her, he would know. It didn't matter. She had an excuse if he noticed her.

Kat stood up and eyed the horizon. The sun was setting. Well, it had set. The bright half moon now lit the land eerily. Rivers and lakes glowed magically in the land, and the mountains looked distant and menacing. The grass shook slightly in the wind. Deer running looked silvery and ghostly. Trees and plants swayed in the breeze. Leaves, green, yellow, brown, red, and orange, fell from some of the trees. Animals scurried around, going about their normal business.

The palace where the Princess Stephanie lived was just over the hill. Kat started toward the building silently. The wind blew playfully across her face, causing some of her hair to cover her eyes and block her view. The sky was starry, filled by a myriad of stars, all bright yellow. It was time.
