Through the Unknown Door

Once upon a time, there was a student I came to know

Who knew not Happiness; she knew only Sorrow

She had no Love, she detested her life

She wanted nothing else but to be on the edge of a knife

But deep down inside she wanted to stand tall

Buried deep in the midden? No, no! Not at all!

So one day she went to talk to her dear good mother

She wanted something else; the life of another

"Please let me go, I just couldn't stay

I need to search for facts; I must go on my own way

I'll try to come back to tell you what I've come across

Don't you dare worry, Mum; this won't be your loss."

Upon hearing her daughter's words, the mother simply beamed

She was a bit disappointed, but happy she did seem

"Very well then. Do go on and take care, my dear!

Remember us dearly; forget each and every fear!"

So then she decided to go on her way

She wanted answers, so why else should she stay?

What she wanted was Truth, something that there she couldn't find

But Reality must say that she had been blind

For everything was there, yet still she could not resist

Her blessings were not enough? Let us look at the list!

But something tells me that this she failed to see

Let us respect her decision then; let us just leave her be

Thus, she marched along with only water and bread

She trudged along that path to wherever it led

She journeyed so far; she journeyed so long

She kept her strength up; her determination was strong

Along her way she saw people crying cheerlessly

They were all covered in chains; they wanted to be free

She could not stand to see them in pain; she was once like them after all

And so, with a grin and a wave, these people she tried to call

"Come with me, everyone! Let us discover the end of this road

But don't ask me where it leads; it's by chance that here I strode

Come along, don't weep! All of you let us go!

Towards new hopes and dreams! Towards a better tomorrow!"

Hence, with a giggle and a sigh from her lips,

She continued on her way; she couldn't call it quits!

Yet a multitude of people was now on her trail

They saw her sweet smile, a charm that would never fail

With someone to come with her in her tiring excursion

She now had Hope; a startling revelation

She was once unknowing, uncaring, untrue

But now she's flooded with joy, a feeling that to her was new

So off they went, as one with a cause

They shall never again desire bondage and loss

So far they have sought, for until then they still journey

As one people, together, as close as can be

Now our dear student, with her eyes opened again

She yearned for her home, a kiss, and a friend

But she refused to leave her new acquaintances after all the hurts she had tend

She went holding back the tears; her problems she'll later amend

They walked for days; they strode for nights

They were awfully tired when they at last spotted the dazzling lights

Hurriedly she led them all, running, though she was parched

It was so close! Thus, quickly did they march!

They all tried to exert a little more effort…and at last they were there

With eyes full of held-back teardrops, she threw herself before the door without a care

She knocked one-two-three times till an echo came from the door

"Who is that?" "Who is that?" "Must be another whore"

She held her breath as the door slowly opened

And there, oh Lord! , did her heartbeat so quicken

Those glittering lights from afar were merely a sign

Wonderful, unexpected, just like an unknown Valentine

All noise heard once before was traded for silence

Everyone in the room was still and quite tense

"Oh! Oh!" she cried, her heart overflowing with glee

"Oh my family! Oh my friends! Oh dear me! Dear me!"

She had come home once again; who knew that the path would have led here?

Now she knew and understood more; Truth crystal clear

She then turned to her companions, but she cried in surprise

Everyone who had been following her were gone, even the little mice

She scratched her head once, she tapped the floor twice

And then with a snap she cried, "Oh! I do realize!

They just helped me develop my thoughts, good friends they indeed were

Now look at where I am! It's like Christmas in September!

Indeed, my selfishness had cost me my Life

Now I'm different; I'm no longer a slave of Strife!

Thank you very much, dear mother, for letting me see

That there's much to see in the world, but first of all, there's me

I forgot all these the Lord God gave to me, but now no more

Who ever knew that it was right here what I was looking for?"

Thus, she ended her speech, happy and all-knowing

Her friends were all joyful too; they came to her smiling

She is still living well; her experience still there

Never could she forget those sufferings she had to bear

So I tell you, look around and look carefully

Perhaps your questions too, will be answered just as quickly

It may not be obvious, it may not be expected

But everything's around you, mystical and God-sent

Author's note: Interestingly, I have only heard of the song "Di da di" by Maria Montell AFTER I wrote this...I do not own the song, of course
