Something You Can't Hold Back
Chapter 4:
Soccer…it's a Lifestyle
Tyler had made it through the first week of classes alive, though it was a long shot with the way Mrs. Sanders' treated her. Tyler was a strong-willed girl, and she wouldn't let a bitchy teacher bring her down. She just remained her happy-go-lucky self. She laughed at everything, and her smile simply lit up the room, and everyone knew it, everyone except for her.
It's hard to believe such a happy girl cried every night as she fell asleep. It's hard to believe her life changed so dramatically only a short month ago.
Yet, no one knew what really happened. Not even Trent. All he knew was that she had dreams every night. A dream that made her wake up screaming, screaming about her parents.
Something had gone terribly wrong in Georgia… that was a definite.
Trent had tried to concentrate on football during classes, after all today was the first day of tryouts, but he just couldn't. His mind was some where else… it had been there ever since he laid eyes on her. No matter how much he liked to admit it, he was starting to get attached to his vivacious roommate, if he wasn't already. It's not going to help that she too would be trying out with him.
Mmm…Tyler…practice clothes… sweaty… shit! I can't think about that! I mean she's fucking annoying and won't shut up. She's a smartass who doesn't know when to stop. Alright. I have to focus on football, not Tyler, football. I've got to kick ass today. Not worry about some damn girl.
"Are you ready?!" she asked excitedly, shaking Trent's shoulders as they walked down to the field. He quickly gave her a glance over. A white tank and black shorts, they were a bit big, but her curves were still quite evident.
"Yeah." He replied in a monotone.
"You don't sound too ready." Tyler said, placing a hand on her hip.
"I am, no need to get worried."
"Whatever." She smiled a small, white smile. "You're just nervous 'cause I'm going kick your ass."
"Psh." He scoffed teasingly. "I doubt that."
"You know I will." She smirked. "I run faster anyways."
"I wasn't running my hardest."
"Excuses, excuses." She shook her head playfully, her brilliant blonde hair bouncing in her ponytail. "You know you've got to watch out, 'cause I got mad skills." Her southern accent and soft voice made him laugh as she tried to sound threatening.
"Oh, that's intimidating, Tyler."
"I thought so." She laughed, shrugging her shoulders, making him laugh anymore. "Don't laugh at me." She pouted her full, pink lips.
She's got nice lips, nice full lips, I'd like to kiss – wait, no. It's Tyler. Ha, I feel bad for who has ever had to kiss her…
"It's hard not to."
"Trent…" She whined.
"Tyler…" He mocked her teasingly.
"Trent…"
"Tyler…"
"Trent…"
"Do you ever shut up?" He laughed, as she mock gasped. "Bloody hell, I bet you can't go five minutes without talking."
"Can too."
"Can not."
"Can too!" She crossed her arms over her chest.
"Can not." He looked down at her, raising a dark eyebrow.
"I so can!"
"I'll believe when I see it."
"How long?" She smiled mischievously. Trent put a finger up to rub his chin in thought, with a smirk on his face.
"Until I say you can."
"Sounds easy enough." She shrugged nonchalantly.
"For you? I doubt it."
"Get ready to lose, Parker." She smiled with false sweetness. "Whenever you say go…" She looked at him waiting for him to respond. He looked ahead as they were getting closer to the field. A few guys were standing in a circle, talking amicably, and a few dribbling the ball back and forth between one another. She could see him size up his competition. Cracking a small smile, "I don't got all day now-"
"Go." He grinned boyishly, cutting her off.
Surprisingly, she didn't finish her sentence, and pursed her lips closed. "Damn, you're good." She looked up, and nodded with a huge grin spread across her features. After a few minutes, they reached the field, greeted by Ryan and Andy.
"Bloody hell, Tyler, do you ever not look good." Ryan winked at her, as he hugged her. Trent rolled his eyes as she hugged him back. He whispered something in her ears, receiving a giggle. "How come you're not talking?" He asked her curiously.
She merely shrugged in response.
"Tyler not talking!" Andy said jokingly, hugging her as well. "That's a miracle." She punched him playfully in the stomach. "I was just kidding, Tyler." He laughed meekly, rubbing his stomach.
"Trent, I think something's seriously wrong with her." Ryan said in a worried voice, casting a look at Tyler who was smirking at Andy as he tended his stomach with one hand, and left the other around her slender shoulders.
"Nothing's wrong with her." He rolled his eyes.
"She's not talking, at all."
"And you act like that's a bad thing." Trent laughed deeply.
"Good point." Andy laughed, and he instantly received another playful punch in the stomach. "Bloody hell, I was kidding again." He laughed again, as she leaned into him, her pink lips forming a smirk. "You know I love it when you talk and you've got that cute southern accent." He smiled, as her cheeks turned pink.
"Please refrain from flirting, thanks." Trent said in an irritated tone.
"You're just jealous." Ryan elbowed him. "Don't even deny it."
"Why would I be jealous?"
"Oh, please, don't try that." Andy grinned, amused by his best friend's situation, as he still kept his arm around her.
Tyler just stood there, leaning against Andy, watching them in confusion.
Why would Trent get jealous…? I don't get boys!
"Tyler!" the boys shouted as she reached the field. She waved excitedly.
"Why aren't you talking?" Johnny, a cute boy in her grade, asked.
"That's what we've been wondering." Ryan replied, crossing his arms.
"She can't talk." Trent smirked at her, as she rolled her blue orbs. "Until I decide that she can." He received a couple laughs from the guys. She glared daggers at them.
"Aw, poor Tyler." Andy cooed from above her. She elbowed him, and promptly he groaned and put a hand to his ribs. "Man, I think I've learned my lesson."
"Took you long enough, she's only done that about a hundred times." Ryan laughed. "And stop hogging her! She's mine for the next twenty minutes." Tyler's eyes widened with amusement as she let out laugh.
Trent never said laughing was against the rules…
Ryan took Tyler's hand, and pulled her over to him. "Hey you sexy thing…" He said in a mock husky voice, receiving more fits of giggles from Tyler.
"Gag me." Trent practically choked, Tyler rolled her eyes. He always had to add comments like that, and quite frankly, it was annoying her. Trent always seemed to find away to annoy her, like it was his job. "I mean it's Tyler, come on, mate."
"God! Shut up, Trent. You're so infuriating. Like you go out of your way to piss me off!" She blurted out before she could stop herself. "Damn…" She whispered to herself, as Trent smirked at her.
He leaned down to her ear, his lips almost touching it. Involuntarily, she shivered slightly. "I told you." His hot breath tickled her ear.
"Ah, whatever. It was boring not being able to talk." She shrugged it off as it was nothing. She would not let Trent have the satisfaction of irritating her anymore… today at least.
His smirk faded, as he held a look of confusion.
"Disappointed, Trent?" She asked teasingly.
"Not at all, you might have gone for only four minutes."
"Looks like I beat my previous record than." She grinned a back at him.
"OOOOHHHH!" The boys chorused.
"ALRIGHT LADIES! ENOUGH TALK! IT'S TIME TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS!" A strong, deep voice came from a few yards away.
Coach Harlow was approaching, with a boy walking behind him, though Tyler couldn't tell who it was.
"START SOME LAPS, LADIES! LET'S GO!" He yelled, and the boys instantly listened. He was a good coach, Tyler could tell from the second she saw him on the field. Though she couldn't help to think that it'd be a hard week…
"Miss Tyler Madison, come have a word with me." He said politely, motioning her over before she began to run.
"Yes sir."
"No need for fancy name's. Coach will do just fine." He smiled at me.
"Sure thing, Coach." Tyler smiled back, though she could feel a pair of intense green eyes on her.
"Son, you better get out there. Show them how it's done." He motioned to the boy behind him. He jogged in front of her and coach.
Wow. Can you say speechless? He's a freakin' god.
"Oh my god." Tyler whispered lowly under her breath, but he heard it, yet she wasn't aware of it.
The tall, toned boy was one of the most handsome boys she'd ever laid eyes on. Talk about competition with Trent. He had shaggy dirty blond hair that sometimes fell in front of his emerald green eyes. His tanned skin glistened in the sunlight. This boy was beyond gorgeous.
"Sure thing, Coach." He smiled at Coach Harlow, who he had an uncanny resemblance, and then nodded his head at Tyler. She could have sworn she saw him wink.
Suddenly it clicked.
That was theDuke Harlow.
Duke freakin' Harlow. The one guy everyone talks about, other than Trent.
Wow. I can see why…
…
If there was something Tyler loved in the world, it was soccer. The adrenaline rush was overwhelming pleasure, she lived for it. Now more than anything, she lived for the love of the sport.
Passion fired behind her blue eyes as she dribbled the spotted ball through the bright orange cones with ease and grace. All eyes seemed to watch her as she went, amazed by how easy she made the drill look. How easy she made the game look.
Her muscles ached, her heart pounded, the sweat ran down her face and body, yet this unfazed her. She played harder than everyone, just to prove that she could play, even if she was a girl. The Wilmington boys, nor coach, never voiced their opinion on a girl potentially being on their championship team, yet she knew they doubted her skill. To them, she was probably a joke. And undeniably, she proved them wrong.
She could hear the other players pant from beside her in their sprint lines. Running sprints was her favorite part of practice. She was little and fast, and she used it to her advantage.
Step by step, she passed most of the boys in her line.
Faster, faster, I can beat them. I can beat him.
"Ha." Trent smiled lazily. "I thought you – you said you could – beat me." He panted out, placing his hands atop his head.
"I can."
"Obviously not."
"Oh, Parker shut up. She almost fucking beat you!" Derek laughed. "Tyler, you're fucking amazing at football!" She laughed, thanking him.
"Maybe I didn't want to embarrass you." She turned her attention back on Trent.
"Maybe you just can't beat me."
"Trent, you're so arrogant."
"You like it."
"God! Can you be any more full of yourself?"
"If you want me to be, I can." He smirked. "I'm handsome, charming, and…"
"Parker. Twenty now." Coach said to him sternly, pointing to the grass. "No talking during sprints, you know that."
"Sorry coach."
"Yeah, and Madison." He turned to face Tyler. "Ten for you."
"But…"
"I can make it twenty."
"Ten's good." She said quickly, falling to a push-up position on the soft grass.
I feel like I'm in the damn military...
"Alright, day one is over." Coach smiled as if he didn't put them through any hard work. Tyler fell down to ground after her pushups. Trent still did his, but obviously it wasn't hard for him. Tyler could see the muscles rippling in his arms and as he went down and up, down and up. "Now for the first cut…Harlow, Parker, Kingsley, Williams…" The list went on, and on. About twenty names were named, but only eleven would make the team. "And…Miss Madison." He smirked.
Tyler smiled in relief into the grass, as the other unnamed players walked dejectedly off the field.
I've made the cut! Ah, this is great!
"Congratulations you all for making it this far, you all impressed me with your skills." Tyler could feel him smile. He was a tough coach, but he was proud of his potential team. "Tomorrow will be the final cut, make sure you're at the field by ten in the morning. And good luck to all of you." And with that, he walked off the field.
Tyler still laid on the grass with her eyes closed, totally wiped out from the day's activities. Her chest was falling and rising steadily, as she caught her breath.
"You need help up?" A deep, masculine voice asked, as Tyler noticed a shadow hovering above her.
"No, I'm good thanks." She smiled lazily, not even bothering to open her eyes.
"Mm, okay." He laughed, and then she felt him lay down a few inches away from her. The hair on her arm rose from the sudden closeness. She didn't even know who it was…
"What are you doing?" She asked him.
"What does it look like I'm doing?"
"I don't know…"
"Maybe you should open your eyes." He laughed. And obediently, she opened her ocean eyes, and turned her body while placing her head on her palm so she could see him.
Oh my fucking god.
Tyler's blue eyes widened.
"I don't think I've properly introduced myself." He smiled at her.
God he's even more gorgeous when he smiles…
"I don't think you have either." She smiled back. "Tsk, tsk. How rude of you."
"Duke Harlow." His green eyes bore into her own blue ones, and he held out a large hand.
"Tyler Madison." Tyler's smile grew, and she took his hand with her small one.
"I know who you are." He laughed.
"Do you stalk me?" She mock gasped.
"What?" He chuckled.
"I said, do you stalk me or something?"
"They were right, you are a piece of work."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Take it as you will, beautiful."
"I hate when people do that! Wait…" Her short spout of anger disappeared.
He called me beautiful. Duke Harlow called me beautiful! What is the world coming to?
"Did you just call me… beautiful?" She blurted before she could stop herself. Now, she just felt foolish.
"Yes."
"Oh." Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
"Yeah."
"That's nice of you."
"What can I say? I'm a nice guy." He smiled broadly.
"That's good. And if it makes you feel better, I'm a nice girl." She smiled back, flipping a blonde bang out of her face.
"I know." He laughed quietly.
"You are so a stalker."
"What? Tyler has a stalker?" Trent's voice came from above her.
"Go away." She groaned.
"Tyler, let's go."
"She can stay if she wants, Parker." Duke said, giving Trent an intimidating look.
Enemies? Probably…
Ignoring Duke's comment, Trent kept insisting that Tyler come back with him.
"Fine, way to ruin all my fun." She groaned, positioning herself to get up. Duke hopped up from beside her, and grabbed her hands, pulling her up. "Thanks."
"No problem." He shrugged, smiling goofily.
"Nice meeting you, Duke."
"I'll see you around."
"Definitely."
"No doubt. Bye, Tyler." He smiled as she waved goodbye.
"Bye, Duke." She hoped she had made as big as an impact on him as he had made on her.
I met Duke Harlow! Only one of the hottest guys ever…
OH MY GOD! I think I died and went to heaven.
"TYLER!" Trent yelled from in front of her. She seemed to have gotten lost in her daydreams.
Almost at least…
…
Ten o'clock just came too early. Tyler barely made it on the field on time. If it wasn't for Trent, she would have still been sleeping.
"So, Coach, what are we doing today?" Trent asked, engrossed in their conversation, while Tyler sat beside him yawning. Trent had a sure spot on the team, it was obvious. He'll probably be the second captain, Duke being the first of course. Though, both had equal amounts of skill, but they used it differently. Duke was more conservative, and Trent was rash and daring with his techniques.
"I was thinking… we have a scrimmage." The coach smiled widely.
"That's a bloody brilliant idea!" Derek hollered, pumping a fist up in the air. More cheers, and fists, flew up into the air. Tyler couldn't help but grin, scrimmages were always her favorite practices.
"Everyone split up into two teams, shirts and skins."
"Mm, Tyler, you should play on the skins team with me." Trent whispered in her ear.
"In your dreams, Parker." She smirked, walking over to the 'shirts' side of the field. She was thankful Derek and
"Actually I dreamt about that last night. I must say that you looked - " She slapped his arm before he could finish. "OW!"
"Shut up." She said in a good nature, rolling her eyes playfully. She had expected him to say something like that, it was just how Trent was.
"Tyler, you hurt me."
"Cry about it." He pouted, giving her the puppy dog eyes, knowing she couldn't resist.
Who can resist the puppy dog eyes? I mean, especially when they have eyes like Trent.
"Aw, poor Trenton." She drawled out. "Do you want me to kiss it for you?" She asked in a husky voice, gazing up at him with sparkling blue eyes.
He leaned down, whispering in her ear. "Of course, love."
"Maybe…later." She smiled up at him, as his face fell, but he recovered it quickly.
"Damn, I thought I would get lucky."
"Not that lucky."
"Not yet, at least."
"Not ever?"
"STOP TALKING! LET'S PLAY LADIES!" Coach's voice echoed across the chattering field and everyone immediately split up into their correct teams.
"BLOODY SHIRTS! GET THE FUCK OVER HERE!" Derek called enthusiastically, as Tyler laughed. Derek was one hell of a personality, but Tyler loved him for it.
"Hey, Derek, I'm on your team." Tyler ran up to him, patting his back.
"Bloody fantastic! Now, positions…"
Ryan and Andy were also on her team, she was a bit disappointed she didn't get to see them with their shirts off. But, Trent looked as hot as ever with his fit, fit body. Sweaty, shirtless, and hot; just how Tyler liked her boys
And Duke… Duke was just… there were no words to describe him. He was just… perfect and flawless in every way. She didn't see boys this hot in Georgia. And since they were soccer players that just made them all the more attractive.
Hell freakin' yeah. Soccer players, you've got to love them.
Tyler made her way up to the midfield, waiting for Coach's whistle to blow. And as fate would have it, she say Trent make his way up to her with a smug smile on his face.
"Hey baby." He said huskily, standing next to her, so close next to her that parts their arms were against on another.
"Shut up." She rolled her eyes, focusing on Coach.
"Hey, I was going to go easy on you, but now…"
"Ha, please, I'm going to have to go easy on you."
"You really think you can beat me." He laughed.
"Yes. I really do think I could beat even you."
"Tyler, Tyler, Tyler…"
All the sudden, the whistle blew, though Trent seemed to be focus on other things, claiming he was always going to be beat than her. She made a quick step to the left side of him, though discreetly so he couldn't tell.
"Derek!" She called, and the ball got passed to her. "Bye, Trent." She smiled, dribbling the ball from one foot to the other, running swiftly. She could hear Trent's footsteps from behind her, and Duke jumped out to block her, but she was too quick for him. Tyler easy dodged Duke, while both boys ran after her. Seeing that Andy was open, and near the goal, she passed it to him.
Andy took a hard kick, and it flew through the nimble hands of their goalie and into the goal.
"HELL YEAH! THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!" Derek cheered, while Ryan and Andy ran up to each other and jumped to bump their stomachs. You know, that thing boys always do when they get a goal or something.
"ATTA BOY!" Ryan hollered.
Trent wore a frown, and Duke looked speechless, trying to figure out what just happened. How they had scored a goal so easily.
"I told you, Trent, that you should be the one to watch out." She smiled at him, her blue eyes shining.
"It won't happen again, Madison." He smirked, his tone even.
"You better hope it won't."
And for a while it didn't. It was a tight scrimmage. They played no halves or breaks, no time outs. It was nonstop, all out soccer. That was they way everyone liked it. If there was one thing they had it common, it was their passion for soccer.
Even Duke and Trent, who obviously didn't get along, shared that passion.
It was actually quite amusing to see how they rivaled each other. They would never pass to one another, unless Coach was screaming at them. Which still, they hardly did. It's like they were always competing; in soccer, girls, looks, grades (even if Duke was in twelfth grade), or cars. It was always some kind of competition, and everyone could sense the tension.
"THE NEXT GOAL WINS!" Coach yelled as the whistle blew.
Trent and Tyler were battling against one another to get open. The skins had gotten possession and Trent moved up the field, Tyler trailing on his heels.
Physically, her body was tired. She was drenched in sweat, her clothes sticking to her skin, her blonde hair messy. Her muscles hard a work, but she kept going. She was like machine, she wouldn't stop until the game was over.
Trent too, was tired, but he wouldn't stop either. He wouldn't want Tyler to have the glory of beating him. God knows, he wouldn't live it down. His brown hair stuck up at odd angles, and his muscles glistened with sweat. He could hear Tyler's panting breath behind him, as she suddenly passed him, and came out in front of him, almost stealing the ball away. But luckily, someone was open, even if it was Duke Harlow, but a rivalry wasn't worth losing to a girl.
He chuckled lightly, as she let out a frustrating groan as Duke scored.
Victory was sweet, even if it was only a scrimmage, but he still beat her. The girl he cared for more than he'd like to admit.
Tyler looked up at his smug face, as he looked down on her. He held a goofy grin, amused with her frustrated expression.
Little Miss Perfect lost...for once. Ha.
"Shut up." She said, walking over towards the huddle of boys.
"Sore loser?"
"No." She said over her shoulder, not bothering to look back at him.
"I'll take that as a yes." He smirked, shoving himself between Ryan and Andy.
"Take it as you will." Tyler just smiled, Trent confused, her eyes were not on him, but on… Duke. She waltzed over to him, positioning herself next to him in the close group. He noticed her presence, besides, everyone had a hard time not noticing it.
"Hey." He whispered quickly.
"Hey." She giggled lightly, then focused her eyes on Coach.
"I have the team roster." He smiled, knowing they were all waiting in anticipation. "And I'm proud to say, the championship will have a good chance of belonging to us again. Good work out there today! That's how you play soccer, and you all showed me potential. I was very impressed with every single one of you. Let's just say these were hard decisions because I believe all of you belong on this team."
"Oh, come on Coach, just tell us!" Johnny insisted, and everyone else agreed.
"Alright, alright." He chuckled, and then looking down at his clipboard he began to read out names.
Many sighs of relief were heard, as well as disappointed groaning. Tyler waited patiently, her name hasn't been called yet.
"And Derek Williams." He finished, looking up to face his pupils. Everyone quickly adverted their eyes too Tyler, just as surprised as she was.
Madison? No Madison? There must be a mistake. I mean, I'm better than half the guys on the team! How could I not make it?
"May I have a word Miss Madison?" Coach interrepted her worried thoughts.
This can't be good.
"Well, Madison." He paused, pursing his lips together in deep thought. "I've spoken with the director of the football board about your… situation. And so, I have both good, but bad news. Now don't get me wrong, Tyler, you're a very talented athlete, probably one of the best on the team. But hey, don't tell the boys that. They're already jealous enough." He laughed, and Tyler laughed lightly along with him.
"I would say so."
"Anyways," He said, becoming serious again, which gave Tyler an uneasy feeling.
I better be able to play…
"I don't think they are going to allow you to play in the games." Her face fell. "Since this league is so competitive and elite, they believe that it would be too dangerous for a girl to play with all males."
DANGEROUS?! Ha.
"But," He paused once again, taking in her disappointed features, and the light in her eyes as he said these words of possible hope of her playing. "You can practice with us, and you can be team manager, as well as an assistant coach during the games. If that's okay with you, of course."
"If that's okay with me?" Tyler asked incredulously.
"Well, yes. I could yes your help…" He said a little flustered.
"Coach, I would love to!" She practically squealed in excitement. "That's great, it's so great I can still play! Gosh, you really had me worried there…" She paused catching her breath. "Thank you so much, Coach, you're the greatest!" She beamed, hugging him quickly, and then proceeding to jump around in excitement.
At least I can PLAY!
"Tyler…" Trent laughed, watching her with a raised eyebrow. Instead of stopping she hugged him quickly, and then hugged everyone else on the team. All the boys were very amused with her, and of course they didn't mind hugs from a very beautiful girl.
Duke laughed lightly, watching her as well, but it was obvious he was in deep thought. He was captivated with her. Duke Harlow had never met such a girl like Tyler Madison.
"I can play!" She shrieked in enthusiasm. "I can play! I can play!" Soccer was her world. It wasn't just a sport. It was a lifestyle. She couldn't live without soccer.
"That's great, Tyler Anne." Trent smiled at her, a true, genuine smile. Not to mention an extremely gorgeous smile.
One that Tyler couldn't help but return.
She just couldn't resist.
Wow. Two Months.
I'm horrible! I'm so sorry. That's a really long time ;( I feel so bad! But I had such a hard time with this chapter. So much as been happening… ranging from boys, drama with friends, vacations to New York City, and the Bahamas. And not to mention a lot of school work.
Also, I just didn't have the inspiration like it was hard for me to write, but I got it back, and I hope you like this chapter as much as you did the other ones. It's not as exciting, but it's essential to the story I guess. And it's got some soccer scenes with hot soccer players ;) Sorry if there are mistakes as well.
Next chapter will be much, much more interesting. I promise. And you'll finally get to meet the infamous Kristine Miller.
Dun. Dun. Dun.

Remember to Review! It makes me happy. ;)
