Back, Snake!

Back, Snake!
Your mouth is poison,
Hissing convincing,
Sugar-coated words
That sting
And shake the soil beneath me.

Despite the silence of my spirit
I stutter and try not to listen.

Sighing into my soul
With my last breath
You set the syringes,
Stained and unsteady,
To break the skin within.

Back, Snake!
My ankles suffer the scars
And swellings
Of weakness.

But now I stand resistant,
Resilient,
Sealed to shatter your opportunity.
My faith has brought immunity.
My love has made me strong.
My God declares you wrong!

Back, Snake!
Casting shadows over your scaly sheets,
I want not to slide into them again.
I see the serpent you are!
Behind your smiling, glittering disguise,
I see those sinister slits of eyes.

I stand deceived
But relieved.
I am not quite strong
But not for long.
It is your turn to taste defeat!

My curse has lifted,
And so I now cast a curse on you!
Your serpentine eyes will be revealed to all
As the scarlet glow of your damned soul shines through!
Your scales will glitter and shine no more.
Instead they shall crack and chap and ooze,
Frozen as the ice,
Salty as the tears,
Of the shattered souls you have swallowed.
