There was a boy born of bushy brown hair and blue eyes.
From his birth was planted the seedling of a tree atop a hill.
And as he grew, come the winters and the summers, the tree grew too.
The boy did have with this tree a partnership, and he loved his tree.
The tree enjoyed the company of the bushy haired boy as much as, if not more than, the boy enjoyed climbing its branches and lying under its shade.
One day an old lady did walk by the tree and said to the boy "that is a mighty big tree you have!"
And the boy did beam with pride and thanked the lady, offering to share the shade of his tree with her.
Yet she did not mean the tree was big for its beauty, but big for its wood.
She did not have a tree of her own. And wanted the wood of his for her own makings.
She thanked the boy with a smile and offered him a drink in return.
The boy willingly drank, but he did not know, til his eye lids were like lead,
that this drink was an evil potion that cast a spell upon him.
And while he slept under the tree the old lady, returned with a saw,
And cut as many branches from the tree as she could until the boy awoke.
Upon awaking, without the shade of his tree he was blinded by the sun,
And light-headed from the potion, he did only see the back of the lady,
Walking away with the branches from his tree that he loved so dearly.
He shouted and pleaded, asking why she had done this to his tree,
but she did not answer, and without looking back, she crossed the next hill out of sight, with the branches from his tree.
A large part of the boy died with the loss of those branches.
The tree was weakened from its loss, and the boy could no longer rest in its shade, and climb in its branches.
So through the summers and winters, he grew distant from the tree.
And the tree missed the boy, neglected, but had little to offer him any longer.
Without his tree, he had changed, he didn't enjoy the summer sun,
And wandered in the winters, and if anyone asked him about his tree he would pretend he didn't have one.
Such is the tale of the bushy haired boy and his lonely tree.
