Angel of Chaos

Prologue

The metallic stench of blood was thick in the fiery air. The once fertile and peaceful plains were transformed into a lifeless, infernal battlefield wreaked with pandemonium. Blood stained the green grass like a torrential flood and a blazing sea of fire colored the sky as red as the blood that was shed. The clamor of steel against steel and shouts of anger, victory, and defeat rang through the air like a twisted concert that was in its final movement. The battle being fought in the world of Skyryu was not fought between man and man, but between a race of angelic folk known as the Kala Aini and a race of demonic creatures known as the Hui Rauko, both of which derived from the old Elvish terms for "light angel" and "dark demon".
The Kala Aini and the Hui Rauko have lived under a non-aggression pact that had been held on thin lines for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years. Yet that pact was broken when a malevolent force defiled both of their sacred shrines. This force was in the form of a human who lived in fear all of his life, and his tormentors just wouldn't stop the threats, the stalking, the violence. Finally enraged with this fear, the human, named Chao Arcana, studied the arcane and divine arts of both light and darkness, thus becoming a mystic theurge. Driven by Plagutha, the god of bane, he set out to show the world what true fear really is. His targets were the shrine of Jay, the god of beauty, wisdom, and justice, worshipped by Kala Aini, and the shrine of Vor, the god of strength, discipline, and valor, worshipped by the Hui Rauko. He thought of those quarreling races and their gods as trash that should be cleansed from the world, for he now thinks that fear must be the only way to settle dispute.
Before that happened, something unexpected occurred; a Hui Rauko male and a Kala Aini female met each other, the Ainu attracted by the Rauko's strength and stamina, the Hui Rauko to the Kala Aini's beauty and grace. Eventually, they wedded, and gave birth to an everlasting legacy: a hybrid, human in appearance, that they dubbed the Angel of Chaos, destined to have the mother's grace and the father's strength.
Yet shortly after the child's birth, each race found their shrines in ruin and accused each other of this act. The non-aggression pact was declared annulled and the races fought the war that was taking place now. Countless bodies, both Kala Aini and Hui Rauko alike, lay strewn on the tempest battlefield in pools of blood. There were twelve-thousand soldiers on each side, and in the short time of twelve hours, their numbers dwindled to a few hundred…and dropping rapidly.
The Hui Rauko father had been slain in the short battle that seemed to last an eternity. The Kala Aini mother wept for her husband amidst the din. She cried at the idiocy of war and sacrifice. She then spotted someone…a human…Chao Arcana, laughing maniacally at the battle before them. He was the one who destroyed the shrines and started this meaningless battle. Glancing at her infant son, the future Angel of Chaos, she made up her mind to place him as the one who would one day put a stop to this megalomaniac. She then thought to do that, he had to grow up in a peaceful world. She had to take him to the only sanctuary she knew of: the parallel world known to humans as Earth. So she scooped up her son with what little strength she had and fled the fiery chaos that was to end shortly after her departure.
The Kala Aini was gravely injured; blood trickled down her forehead like a small leak, and her left leg was rendered useless by the trampling of both armies. The most noticeable was the deep gash in her stomach, burning her like a hot brand on skin, blood slowly pouring out from her like a broken hourglass. The pain was unbearable, but with sadness, determination, and concern driving her, she flew through the forest until she managed to make it to the only gateway to Earth known to the Kala Aini alone: the Angelus Sanctum, a clearing with eight tall, ivory pillars, circular in shape, and carved with runes. Near death, the mother set her beloved son in the center of the runic spires, tears of both sorrow and joy dripping from her sea blue eyes. She knew that she was going to die, but she also knew that her son will live on and grow strong. She knew that his destiny will change the way that the Kala Aini and the Hui Rauko viewed each other, and deliver justice to the one that wronged them. Thus, she left the child with this edict:
"When thou become sixteen, thou shall learn of the truth, thy power, thy destiny. Thou shall prevent what we could not. Until that time, I leave thee in the care of a human family."
The mother then used the last of her strength to utter the incantation to open the gate. The runes etched into the eight pillars glowed a rainbow of colors, and a concentrated prismatic ray emitted from each of them, focusing on the center of the circle they formed. The resulting flash formed a glowing, white circle with cyan energy furiously eking out from it. The child was giggling; he was unaware of what is happening to him. The mother smiled; as long as she knew that he was safe, she could finally die in peace. With a final flash of multicolored light, the child vanished. As if by synchronization, the mother said her final words:
"Fare-thee-well, my dearest son. And good luck." With a final sigh, she closed her eyes and died, disintegrating into light particles in the process.
