This is a sort of prequel to the Blind Element Story that I am currently writing as well. This will get updated, though not quite as often as I hope the Blind Element to be. This is about Solarian's father before and when he became the Aquamage.
"Nilsieas! Wait up man!" The young sorcerer lengthened his stride to catch up to his friend. "You were just initiated into the most prosperous sept, which may I add is no surprise, and you looks to me like your going to take a nap! I'm sorry my friend, but that can't be allowed." He took the new mage by the arm and led him down a flight of stairs.
"I really think it would be wiser for me to head to my rooms Thalis. I don't feel much in the mood for celebrations. The trials were tedious." Nilsieas managed a smile for his friend while at the same time breaking his grip and turning to back up to his rooms.
"Now wait one second man. You have worked hard for this and you need...fine...just tell me whats wrong, and I will call off your party." The young man sighed as he looked back up the stairs at his friend and waited for an answer, expecting none. Suprisingly, he got one.
"Have you ever wondered what all of this is for Thalis? Why we have these septs, and the competitions? Seeing by your expression that you haven't I will tell you that I have. I have come up with a few differant answers that could explain the ridged laws and the restrictments on outside news. The first is that we are being forged Thalis, we are being forged into weapons of war. Take my new sept for an example. Its motto is 'mock the pain, laugh in the face of torture, and spit in the eye of your enemy as long as the Tornriksha stand.' What kind of code of honor is that? Who can live under that type of lifestyle if your not being trained to face those enemies. The sad thing is, that this fate is the better of the two that I have fathomed. The second is far worse Thalis. The good news is that a sea-shattering war is more likely than my second proposel." Here he paused to take a breath and guage his companions reaction. Seeing that he was not fully comprehending where he was taking the conversation he continued on. "They are raising us like this because they fear our power. They keep us tied to the weak government, and elect puppet Aquamages to serve as our representatives. They keep an iron grip because they fear that we will revolt. This sentiment is stupid and is the sole reason why we humans are confined to the depths of the ocean. If our so called Emperor would allow us the free reign we need to study than the humans would swarm from the depths and decimate anyone in our path." At this point Nilsieas relized where he had taken the subject and quickly halted in mid-speech. His friend looked at him in shock.
"Perhaps you do need to rest. I will cancel your party." Thalis hurried down the stairs and out of sight. Watching his friend leave Nilsieas sighed and turned to head back to his rooms. Lost in thought he bumped into an older wizard at the top of the stairs.
"Excuse me sir, I wasn't paying attention"
"It's not a problem, but perhaps you would like to come to my rooms and have a chat hmmm"
"Of course, Master Mage." Finally noticing the rank markings on the man's chest and fearing that he had been overheard, Nilsieas followed the man to his rooms.
