Tell me
Tell me, if you've seen it all,
If you're old and wise.
Tell me, if you know what's best
And want to cut me down to size.
Have you looked up purely for the sake
One night when it was clear?
Did you decide to sit a bit?
Did you notice what was there?
Did you really see the stars?
The changing orbs above
Blind drivers in their cars?
Have you noticed when the cloud,
Drives in on a bitter wind
A lone star gazing, blinking out, huddled in it's fellow's shroud?
Can you see emotion riding on the breeze?
Can you sense the dangerous beauty of the winter freeze?
At the same time can you acknowledge
The simple complexity moulded to perfection
In every living thing?
Can you see beyond the case?
What shouldn't be there but
Is hidden behind each endless face.
Can you see the skill in the building of the city?
And see the same achievement in a child's art?
If you have opinions and defend them with such passion,
At the same time as not agreeing,
Can you still see greatness
In another something else?
If you do not Stereotype
If you have an open mind
If you don't discriminate by age or birth or colour
And can accept and question both
The same time together
There's more that I could say
But first earn my respect,
Though I never demanded yours.
I know I'm not the greatest
But I can see pretension
You earn my admiration,
I'll reach up for yours.
I'm afraid that you will never
Get respect from one who thinks
If you start by saying
"I know it all."
Because there's always more see.
