Kill Me Slowly

If you must kill me, then please,

do it slowly

that I might have the time to say goodbye

to the grasp of my mother's hand in mine

and the feeling of sun upon my face.

Please, give me time to hope,

to pray that I might live,

to rant and to rave about

the unfairness of it all.

Give me time to weep,

and finally, to find peace

in the darkness as it creeps.

Let me plead, first for my own sake,

and then for my mother's,

my fathers, my sister's, my brother's.

Please let me hold them one last time.

Just once will be enough;

it will have to be enough.

Make it easier on my family:

don't let it surprise them.

If they must hurt, at least

allow them to be prepared.

If you must kill me, good sir,

please, I only ask you this:

do it slowly.

I cannot read minds. Please, tell me your thoughts.
